And at Chester High School the first day was celebrated but the districts financial woes are hard to ignore. Last year teachers and support staff voted to return to work even though the district is not able to make payroll next week. These teachers are not getting paid but are here to teach us. This district has a long history of financial troubles and elected officials and teachers believe the problem is a state funding formula which shows what they are required to pay Charter Schools. The formula is not working a lot of people that majored in math and accounting, change the formula. Half the kids attend Charter Schools and educators say the district owes more to Charter Schools than it gets in state aid. It pitted the parents of district against the parents of the charter school, the problem is we are leer to educate all the children. They are trying to keep the kids focused on the learning. The fact that not one teacher called out today and i was able to get retired teachers to come in and substitute for my three vacancies is what is good and great about this city.
