The Philadelphia Fire Department continues to be on guard this morning ready for the next fire call that goes out but at the same time the members carry the memory of joyce craiglewis, a firefighter who died battling a blaze yesterday morning. Reporter matt, this firefighter was known for her work ethic, for going the extra mile and now you can see black bunting hanging outside engine 64 here in lawncrest as her family, colleagues and her community grieves. Just always wanted to save lives. Reporter words from the sisterinlaw of 36yearold joyce craiglewis, an 11 year veteran of the Philadelphia Fire Department, a mother of two and last night, a vigil was held to remember her outside engine 64 in lawncrest. The first female firefighter in the department to die in the line of duty. She was known for going the extra mile, wanting to make sure smoke detectors was in the less fortunate houses, to make sure they had a chance should anything happen. Reporter craiglewis was assigned to engine 64 but had been working overtime in engine 63. Craiglewis leaves behind a 16yearold son and a 16 month old daughter. Her locker now a memorial, her dedication remembered by those she served. I live across the street and its just sad, you know. She has little ones and she gave her life for her job. Reporter and as is expected there will be a full investigation into her death. Officials will interview her team and her equipment has been preserved for inspection. Police say 25yearold Albert Baldwin was killed when his vehicle lost control and crashed into another one in sicklerville Camden County. Happened on cross keys road outside Winslow Plaza yesterday afternoon. You see baldwins vehicle overturned and he was partially ejected. Winslow Township Police are still looking for witnesses to try to explain baldwins actions behind the wheel. Police have good Surveillance Video of two armed men who knocked off a coin and collectible store in bensalem. The suspect took his hood off during yesterdays robbery and that gave the camera a clear picture of his face. He and another man armed with a pipe a hammer an long hunting knife barged into the store in the Bensalem Plaza on the 2100 block of street road. They tied up the owner, a clerk and a customer then stole about 5,000 worth of silver dollars. The owner who asked not to have his face shown says the men put a real scare into him. What he said was get down on the ground and i couldnt believe it. It was like a joke at first. I really thought for a second this is somebody thats playing a game on me but as he pushed me down, i realized this is not a game and i kept saying to myself oh my god this is for real. Now newton actually swerved before that car hit him but his car actually flipped several times. Now, lets take a listen to the 911 calls from some witnesses. On the ramp, im on 77. They was up above me. Reporter now, witnesses say newton made it out of his truck before he was carried away on a stretch but he is being hospitalized expected to be released today. He has fractures to his lower back. Now, a spokesperson for the panthers said he will not need surgery but it is unclear if newton will be able to practice or play sunday against the buccaneers and it is unclear if the other driver involved in this accident is okay and its also unclear who is at fault in this accident but apparently this particular intersection has a high rate of accidents, so, again, were not sure if hell be on the field but right now his focus is on healing but certainly scary moment for the other driver who witnessed the crash, matt. Sure thing. Thank you erin. The Philadelphia School district and the Teachers Union go to court to argue over whether the district has a right to cancel the teachers contract. Thousands of teachers marched in protest back in october right after the School Reform commission canceled the contract. The district now requires teachers to contribute to their health coverage. The move saved the district 54 million this year. The union argues the srcs move is illegal. The Court Hearing will take place in harrisburg this morning. Also happening today a meeting on how to redesign love park. The city wants to make the park also known as j. F. K. Plaza more pedestrian friendly. The research arm of penn design is partnering with the citys parks and Recreation Department and the Fairmount Park conservancy to come up with a design. New this morning, a South African judge ruled overnight that prosecutors can can appeal Oscar Pistorius acquittal on murder charge. The olympic runner was convicted of culpable homicide in the death of his girlfriend reeva steenkamp. He was sentenced to a five year prison term. Pistorius could be released from prison to be held under house arrest after 10 months and the prosecutor in that case has called that sentence shockingly inappropriate.
