WPVI Action News At 4pm June 24, 2014

The ping from the iphone led them to the boarding house were they all lived. That was able to get us into the general area, that was critical however that did not lead us to that house. Tonight Homeland Security officials and from the department of immigration and custom authorities are said to be looking into these cases and garcia is locked up face charges of rape, kidnapping and robbery. Police say he had no previous arrest record here in the usa. Vernon thank you. We first told you about garcias arrest on the 6 abc news app you can use that to find updates and Surveillance Video of the attack released by police. More than 1,000 people have no gas service right now in southwest philadelphia, but the problems for pgw actually started with a water main break, john rawlins live at 56th and woodland, they tell us this is a unique problem with no easy fix. We just got off the phone with pgw, and they say that the number of people without gas service is 700, pgw says they cant remember anything like this happening before in the past, or the immediate past, right there is the epicenter of the problem and we have a lot of frustrated pgw customers with questions. I complain because we havent had any gas and i cant take a shower or anything. I have my pan and eggs ready and i try to turn on the stove and nothing. Thank god for the microwave. For two and a half days no gas service. People improviding bacon, scrapple and toast on an outside grill. And the water pipe burst and somehow, nobody knows for sure how, 40,000 gallons of water flowed into the gas pipe, it was a bad mix and they shut off the gas in a 14 block radius. Still customers including this Fried Chicken plays no gas. No Fried Chicken no nothing. They are using vacuums to remove the water and its a slow process. Now an army of workers going doortodoor. And in some cases they restored place, they found that water reached gas meters and appliances. Now we dont know when it will return. Pgw saying 700 Customers Without Service here since saturday night. Its not easy to say when they will get their service back, a number of them are red tag cases, where the water has got enpast the gas meters and the owners will have to get their meters inspected and say they are safe to use. John rawlins, channel 6 action news. Thank you. We are breaking news into us right now from center city philadelphia, chopper 6 live over 13th street north of filbert street. 13th street is shut down because of a suspicious package, the call came in a half hour ago and crews responded to the scene and it remains an active scene right now, so far there are no evacuations as a result of that recovery, a suspicious package at 13th and filbert. This is by the criminal Justice Center at city hall, this is a cause for concern because of prox imity to those two spots. Well continue to monitor that situation. Matt pellman will have an update on that, but meantime, a check of accuweather forecast. Lets go outside to adam joseph. Two in a row, that sunshine going to work, a warm day and more humid in spots here this afternoon. As we look at the numbers across the region in philadelphia, 86 degrees and 85 in allentown and 85 in trenton and 82 in wilmington and again the sea breeze is kicking in this afternoon and beach haven 66 and 65 in sea isle city. And off the bay 78 degrees. Philadelphia union against the cosmos, the u. S. Open cup is in town and partly cloudy and muggy and a nice night for soccer. 82 to start and by the 90th minute it will be 78 degrees for the dew points we are in the 50s and to the north and west, the dew points are rising into the middle to upper 60s that moons there is more moisture in the atmosphere and that turns more humid. To the west where the dew points come back up, there are downpours and thunderstorms around with the low pressure near chicago, all of this is heading to the north and east and eventually well get into some of this action, but the good news is, some of this Severe Weather with this will lift north to new england. Oppressively humid tonight and tomorrow and tomorrow night. And they come through with the possibility of localized flooding. Well talk about the timing of those downpours and less humidity again. Soundses good, thank you adam. City hall this morning, councilwoman johnson joined advocates and families to the capital. They want the city to impose a 2 tax on each pack of cigarettes sold in philadelphia, and the School District is trying to come up with 96 million just to try to keep the statd us quo. There is now war of words emerging from pennsylvania, attorney general Kathleen Kane, it all stems from comments yesterday suggest that two children were not victimized by jerry sandusky. Had her predecessors not brought a case against them. Chad, those comments are not sitting well today. Reporter no, they are not. Colonel frank newnan at once headed up the attorney General Office and then here to head up Pennsylvania State police, he and others involved in the sandusky investigation, they want answers from Kathleen Kane. I talked to investigators that have been wtd case for the entire length, the head of the police frank newnan is baffled by the accusations yesterday. We have two individuals that say they were abused in the fall of 2009, that would be six months after state prosecutors took over the investigation. Yet the two alleged victims were not involved in the trial nor mentioned in the report released yesterday and commissioned by Kathleen Kane who had alleged that prosecutors dragged their feet. If through the two alleged victim was be the highlight of the molton report. Which found that prosecutors acted reasonably. What is the names of two victims you are talking about, that is what i would like to know, so i could understand what the circumstances are that she is talking about. Lead prosecutors tell action news that she was aware of one alleged victim who claimed he was molested before and after the case began but was not a part of the trial because of a host of creditability concerns. Another question now looms, can colonel noon newnan who was pointed by tom corbett Work Together . It makes me question, why is this being done . As far as working together, that is our job and we can Work Together. And kanes office rejected our request for a sit down interview but sent a statement. There is true and factual that evidence exits for two individuals, im live in harrisburg, chad pradelli, channel 6 action news. Here at the big board now, the situation in iraq is intensifying, the u. N. Is saying that mostlycilliveans have been kill there had this month. Secretary of state, john kerry is in iraq today and he is telling abc news that iraq is not at civil war. Its civil strife, new not civil war yet. They say they could force the kurds to force their own independent state. They spoke to the Central Government of baghdad yesterday in an attempt to avoid civil war there, trying to adapt policies to give more opportunity to kurds and others. Its up to iraqi, they have to make their decision. Last week president obama announced that the u. S. Will send up to 300 military advisers to help Iraqi Security forces, bringing questions how affective that will be now especially after all the resources that we spent in the region. America is not going to keep them at bay, that is not the definition here, america is going to help iraqi keep them at bay. A New Washington post poll found that twothirds are opposed to helping Ground Troops fight the extremists, and the president ruled that out as an option. And the violence there persisting, they have disapproved of the president s response than of the job he is doing. Do business now, it was a rough day for stocks, the dow dropped almost 120 points on the day and the nasdaq was down 12 and the s p fell 2. 5 points. Sales of new u. S. Homes rose more than 18 in may, that puts them at their highest level in six years. The gains come after declines in february and march, which analysts blamed on the harsh winter. The area that saw the biggest game was here in the northeast, and sales were up more than 54 . Time to get you caught up on the action news travel report, lets get a check of the travel report with matt pellman. A nice weather report, i was going to show you a disabled vehicle and penndot is dreaming of lazy summer days spent on a boat in the schuylkill river, we wont show you the disabled vehicle and its on the west side by south street. It causes slowly west from bear and south street. When you jump on the vine street expressway, eastbound side of broad street, they got that one pushed off to the side as well. Schuylkill eastbound heading into the vine delay stacked from the roosevelt boulevard into 676, earlier crash on 95, now long gone and the southbound delay trying to work itself out by cotman avenue. And northbound had the delay because of gamer and police activity. On the big picture, we have the police activity, a suspicious package in center city by the chilis, and stick with broad instead. And in upper moreland watch out for a house fire, eastern road gets you around it. Lets grab the ipad and do the commuter report, one friend says a minor crash northbound in culpsville, not causing the same issues as yesterday, with those broken down vehicles. Think of a lazy day on a boat and well be back in the next half hour. Thank you matt. A berks county man is facing legal trouble after police say he went too far to enforce the speed limit in his neighborhood. Action news anchor, Monica Malpass is in the newsroom with this story. Hi shirleen, the speed limit on this one is 25 Miles Per Hour but one resident apparently got upset when he saw anyone speeding and here is what happened next. Bruce mckeegan took matters into his own hand to slow people down, what he put in the street to stop people from speeding and slow down and faces serious charges because of it. Plus, more local hospitals are introducing 3d technology to detebt breast cancer, ali gorman will show us what this is and how it works. Well see you at 5 00. Thank you. The skyline in downtown reading is changing, its going to save money but it means the end of a decades old tradition. They have turned off the lights for gh over the courthouse there, they were in disrepair and came down during renovation, it would have cost 200,000 for new led color changing lights and 72,000 for white lights, the courthouse lights date back to the 1930s, the different colors were used to demonstrate the next days forecast. Now they have to rely excluszively on the accuweather forecast. Which well toss right now to adam joseph outside. I think its green, we are good to go here. Tomorrow maybe a little more orange around the radar, as we take a look at city avenue, its bright and sunny and it feels decent out here where the relatively low humidity, the number on city avenue, 86 degrees and the dew point at 55, and when it hits over 65, 70, winds out. Southsouthwest and the heat index 86. Quakertown 82, 82 martins creek, and oxford 82 degrees, berks county 84, and the south 84 in hammonton and ewing 90 degrees. And as we look right along the shore temperatures are cooler with a sea breeze only in the mid70s. Philadelphia and trenton and beach haven, all comfortable in the mid50s, they are starting to rise in the west and south, into the middle 60s and dover and wildwood hitting 70 degrees, down to the south its feeling more humid and on the border line oppressive here. Across the board tomorrow, dew points back to near 70 degrees, you step out and feel the sun and you instantly sweat with the oppressive humidity and with that humidity bouncing back up, that is just a lot of water sitting in the at atmosphere waiting to be squeezed out. No threat for downpours or thunderstorms here, through the ohio valley and northern new engla england, as we time it, a scattered shower and morning clouds for the rush hour and the majority of day is on the dry, humid side and you can see all the weather, especially the Severe Weather, misses us to the north, and during the late evening hours, after 8 00, 9 00, 10 00, that is when the front passes through with a random thunderstorm, all the real heavy rain good evening honker it will be in New Hampshire and new england. In the philadelphia we could see a minimum of at least a half inch of rain. But the storms are scattered tomorrow but where they do hit they will be heavy with a quick inch or two, and some of the downpours could create some localized flooding and vivid lightning, upper 60s to near 70 degrees, muggy and a shower in the predawn hours, the flavor of the day more humid and warm and most of the day is dry and late in the day, and in the evening and overnight hours, downpours and random thunderstorms, 88, morning clouds and sun 87 and less humid on friday and a decent amount of sun, 86 degrees and partly sunny and a guy way to start the weekend. Well let you know if the rest of the weekend will bear on the sunny side in the next half hour. Still ahead, a real life royal on a fictional throne.
