Memorial day has been quite a disappointment weatherwise. Take a look down this boardwalk right now. But lots of people are still here and determined to get outdoors. So, theres been activity on the boardwalk all day. Im surprised how many people have been out in the rain here actually but they may be waiting until the last minute so they dont get stuck in traffic. So, be sure to keep an eye on 6abc. Com weather with the forecast today and the week ahead. And i bet the forecast had something to do with people changing their traffic plans today. Were going head over to the action News Traffic Center and check in with matt pelman. Yeah, weve heard it said that what goes up must come down, right, alicia and sharrie. Well, in this case its the opposite. What comes down must go up. All those people going down the shore on thursday and friday last week now have to come up, come home again and were seeing a long line of them and its been a long line all day long here along the garden state parkway. Currently were sitting at 23 miles of heavy traffic in the northbound lanes, not so pleasant from just north of courthouse through this point at the cape may toll plaza the whole way up to the ac exit. Its not a solid jam but its stopandgo traffic for the whole way for those 23 miles with speeds around 12 Miles Per Hour. You have all the other usual culprits as well, slow speeds on 83, on 47 through dennisville where were sitting at just 9 Miles Per Hour and on 50 north of tuckahoe that construction continues on the bridge there, so traffics having to take turns and thats not helping the situation along 50 northbound traveling through tuckahoe this afternoon. On the a. C. Expressway once you get there, its not so bad. Speeds in the 20s coming out of ac itself but then out around the egg harbor toll plaza were doing okay with all the toll lanes reopened. Good timing on that late last week. Once you get to 42 a little sluggish but again not a terrible situation. At the delaware Memorial Bridge headed into delaware all lanes back so were in the 30s. Slower going into new jersey this afternoon with speeds in the 20s and coming back from the delaware beaches a slow patch from time to time on northbound highway one through odessa but that, too, could be worse. Lets grab the ipad to the commuter report on this memorial day afternoon. Crash along new road route nine in som percent point. People trying to avoid the northbound parkway are getting stuck in the backlog from that accident. Just 7 Miles Per Hour there. It is a rough trip home from the shore. Well check it again, sharrie and leash sharks in the next half hour. Lets hope it improves along the way, matt. Thank you. Still ahead, details on a fierce battle going on involving isis in iraq. Trying to figure out just how a man ended up dead in Pennypack Creek this morning. Chad pradelli is live in the park near the very spot where fisherman found the mans body earlier today and a lot of questions, chad. Reporter yeah, alicia, i want to show you Pennypack Creek. You can see from the looks of it it doesnt appear very menacing but investigators warned this mornings tragedy is a remind just how dangerous creeks like this can be. Philadelphia Police Called in the marine unit to retrieve the body of 68yearold ailed sander ross who drowned in the rain swollen Pennypack Creek this morning around 9 00. Two fishermen found the body floating near the veree road overpass. As Emergency Responders were on scene, the victims wife arrived to the location. A female showed up at the park and stated that her dog that her husband takes walking every day was sitting by their car but law nowhere to be found and it was later to be determined that that was him in the creek. Reporter how ross ended up in the water unclear. Witnesses saw him floating in the creek but did not see him enter the waterway. The dog was wet. We dont know if the dog went into the water and he went after to get the dog or he fell into the water. But obviously its a tragic accident. Reporter investigators warn the creek can be deceiving and every year they respond to accidental drownings. Especially during the summer months. At some points that creek can get 10, 12 feet deep where youre standing one minute and youre in 12 feet and the currents are so strong youre not going to be able to fight it. Reporter and we should mention that the dog was uninjured and is back with the victims wife. Im live in fox chase, chad pradelli, channel6 action news. All right, chad, thank you. A iraqi troops moved into fallujah today. The Islamic State has held fallujah for more than two years now. Todays action is part of an offensive that started a week ago and is backed by u. S. Time for another check of the accuweather forecast on this memorial day. Lets go on over to meteorologist adam joseph with a look at maybe some improvements . Yes, now were going to improve especially along the shore. That rain will finally kick off the coast as we go over the next few hours. Its been raining through much of the morning into the afternoon down at the shore, southern parts of delaware but for the majority of the heart of the Delaware Valley up through the Lehigh Valley some peeks of sun at times, very humid, but a lot of clouds and were tracking a front to their north and west of pottsville and harrisburg that could bring some thunderstorms or downpours in those northwestern suburbs a little later on this evening. But right now it is still raining all the way from cape may right through Long Beach Island all northbound on the garden state parkway. If youre heading away from cape may or expected to over the next hour youre still going to deal with the rain, even 47 heading out of avalon, Sea Isle City trying to cut across southern new jersey towards moorestown. A lot of the people still on the roadways trying to hit home after a long holiday weekend. And rainfall totals very impressive especially parts of burlington county, camden county, gloucester county, mount holly over 3inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Sewell, new jersey, closing in on 3inches, drexel hill about two and half, wilmington just over 2inches. Philadelphia less but still a healthy inch and a half of rain over the last 24 hours and with that additional inch and a half as were near the end of the month of may, it brings our rain up to date of 6. 68inches of rain for the month. In fact, 21 of 30 days with a trace of more of rain in philadelphia and you have to go back 26 years before the last time we saw more than 6inches of rain in the month of may. So, a very wet start as we end spring and starting to push into that Summer Season. Temperatures are cool with the rain and the clouds, only in the upper 60s to low 70s in southern new jersey and delaware. Were in the 80s where that sun has popped back out, reading lancaster and allentown. However, when you factor in the humidity, it is very tropical in those southern areas so it feels very uncomfortable where that rain is falling with those dewpoints above 65 to as much as 70 degrees. So, feeling oppressive but slightly drier air. So, even though its hotter to the north and west in the 80s it feels a little bit better with that lower humidity. As we look at satellite and radar, theres the rain skirting the coast slowly exiting to the east. The breaks of sun to the north and west and theres the front were watching coming into harrisburg and hagerstown, maryland. As we time it with future tracker, still a line here of downpours and thunderstorms, 68 in allentown as we could see some rai
