Another warmup just in time for the thanksgiving holiday. Lets talk more about that with dave murphy and karen rogers. We are off to another cool start. As you take a look at satellite theres a fair amount of cloud cover that has filtered in overnight but we expect a lot of this to evaporate. Overall we should wind up with a fair amount of sunshine today. Little cloudy to start out. 36 degrees in philadelphia, 32 wilmington. Its cold in many neighborhoods as you step out the door. Just 27 degrees in allentown, 28 in trenton, 31 in reading and how about millville, all the way down to 22 degrees at this early hour. Im hearing an oh, from karen rogers side of the room. As you head out to start up the car or to head out to the bus stop or train station 32 degrees the freezing mark by 6 oclock and only up to 33 by 8 oclock. Notes much wind out there this morning as there was yesterday so were not talking wind chills but it is cold. Its going to get a little bit milder later on. By noon up to 45 degrees and by 3 oclock that is your high today, 50 degrees a fair amount of sunshine but on the cool side at least theres not as much wind. Does continue to get milder as we head in towards thanksgiving and i dont understand. Details coming up. All right day. An Early Morning accident partially blocking the ramp from route one northbound to the blue route southbound. Looks like theyre temporarily blocking all lanes. You can see theyre loading up the car on the tow truck right now. Weve got debris on the ramp as well. A messy accident here in Delaware County on the ramp from route one northbound to the blue route southbound. We can see the mangled wreckage of this vehicle getting onto the tow truck nearby and now theyre allowing some traffic to come through at this point so theyve been intermittently blocking the lanes on that ramp. As we switch here towards center city this is the vine street expressway westbound and eastbound was closed overnight for construction. We can see theyve reopened it. It will close again tonight at 11 00 so youll want to watch for that closure overnight. Weve got an Early Morning accident here as well. This is pottstown swamp pike at fruitville road and a vehicle fire thats blocking the right lane and the shoulder. Happening right now on the northeast extension its southbound approaching Lehigh Valley. Expect some slowing through this area, matt and tam. And that a you karen. Breaking right now, tensions have risen even higher in minneapolis, minnesota. Gunmen shot at least five people during a police protest. Action News Reporter erin ohearn is live in the Satellite Center with more on the story t erin. Matt right now police are looking for three suspects. The shooting happened near a protest over the shooting of a black plan by police. The shots were fired just a block away from the Police Station. Now, Police Say Witnesses say that the suspects were Wearing Masks as they were leaving. They opened fire. The five shooting victims suffered minor injuries. It is not clear yet if the black lives matters protesters were specifically targeted. Theyve been here in that Police Precinct since november 15th and the shooting of jamar clark. Police are requesting witnesses come forward if they have any information on the suspects. Now clarks family issued a statement early this morning asking people to move on from the protests near that Police Station out of concern for their safety. All right, thank you for that erin. A lot of americans will be traveling for the holiday and the state Department Says we should all be alert as possible when it comes to travel risks. Lines are expected to be much longer because of a Record Number of flyers and also increased security due to the paris attacks. Thats right the state department saying monday that americans need to exercise caution and be extra vigilant when they travel this Holiday Season. Many of the people there we have caught up with here during the morning rush say its not making them do anything differently. During one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, the state department issued a warning. Americans should be alert to possible travel risks over the holidays. The warning comes on the heels of threats made by isis against new york and d. C. I think its worrisome to all people what happened in regard to paris. So, yeah, im a little worried. Not concerned as much. It doesnt deter me from traveling. Doesnt make me feel safer. Reporter measures are already in place here at Philadelphia International airport. Expect to see canine units now out in the open. Previously they were behind the scenes. That measure was planned before mondays alert but slows how vigilant security is now everywhere. The alert is in effect until february 24th. Authorities say current information suggests the Islamic State alqaeda and boko haram continue to plan attacks around the world. Already post paris where extremists targeted sporting and entertainment events and cafes people are alert. The past years violence also included the bombing of a russian airliner. Airport Authorities Say this is one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, so please come early. That always makes things move a little smoother. For now live at Philadelphia International airport, Annie Mccormick channel6 action news. Thanks annie. Malfunctioning wires triggered a fire at a car wash in the citys bustleton neighborhood. It broke out along bustleton avenue near nor walk road at 1 30 a. M. Investigators say a transformer attached to the building malfunctioned sparking wires. No one was hurt and it is unclear when the car wash will reopen. Two firefighters an civilian recovering from injuries sustained in this deptford new jersey house fire. Action news viewer reported the smock key scene along the 1100 block of lexington drive. Authorities say it took over an hour to get the fire under control. Firefighter its still dont know what sparked it. And the city of philadelphia has passed a grim milestone. There have been 250 People Killed in homicides this year. That surpasses last years total of 248. Detectives spent the neither combing through the scene of a double murder in the citys Port Richmond section. It happened inside a home on the 3600 block of jasper street. Police say whoever pulled the trigger likely knew both the men. The gunmen fired nine times hitting both victims at least once in the head. Outgoing commissioner Charles Ramsey says police can only do so much and the community has to step up. People have to stop it. I mean, listen, this is all part of what were up against in Law Enforcement and will we make arrests and people say its disproportionate but look at the victims. Police stats show the majority of homicide victims are male minorities. New on action news Public Schools in parts of Washington State will be closed the rest of the week due to a destructive wind storm. Tens of thousands of residents in spokane have been without power for nearly a week. School Officials Say there is still too much of a danger from downed power lines and trees blocking sidewalks for children where children have to walk. Residents there are also bracing for snow. We have sky6 were looking at center city and you can see that its a little bit of cloud cover above the center city sky scrapers but that is going to start to break up a little bit as the day goes on. It is chilly, though. 36 degrees in philadelphia and down to the freezing mark in wilmington currently. Upper 20s in trenton and allentown. And 31 in reading at this early hour. Millville down in the rural heart of south jersey has managed to dip all the way down to 22 degrees. If youre down the shore its a little bit better but Everybody Needs coats this morning. There you see how some clouds have swept over the region in the overnight hours but it looks like theyre high and thin enough where theyll start to break up a little bit later on and we should wind up with a fair amount of sunshine overall. May not need the sunglasses right at sunrise as much as you play a little bit later though. Overall in the Lehigh Valley well call it mostly sunny with some occasional clouds sweeping through. Chilly with a high of 47 degrees. Not as windy as yesterday. And the same story at the shore ending up mostly sunny later on, chilly, 50 degrees is the high there. Again, not as windy as yesterday and in philadelphia, 50 is your high. There will be some clouds around at times but a fair amount of sunshine overall through the day and winds lighter out of the west at just six to 12 miles per hour. How are we rolling today . Still pretty cold by 8 oclock down to about 33 degrees and by 11 oclock still 42. But we do improve to 48 by 2 oclock and youll get that high of 50 probably around 3 oclock this afternoon. Then tomorrow High Pressure is in control. Should give us a mostly sunny day and more importantly a smooth travel day as many of you may be on your way to visit relatives. 53 degrees will be the high, a fair amount of sunshine and decent conditions for travel weather. And then the next day, thursday, looking really good for the 6abc Dunkin Donuts thanksgiving day parade. There go all the floats and all the folks and you can see that were going to start out chilly. 42 degrees. There could be a little cloud cover early on but i think we transition to partly sunny skies and its going to warm up pretty quickly during the parade. By 10 oclock well improve 10 degrees to 52 and by noon probably up around 60 so its one of those thanksgivings where you want a coat early maybe even some gloves but youll probably be shedding some of that gear as the parade goes on. Heres your forecast. Todays high 50 degrees, chilly with less wind. 53 a bit milder on wednesday and then the parade gets up to about 60 and we improve of to 63 later in the afternoon on thanksgiving. Friday also looking nice and mild, 66. On saturday a system arrives with more clouds ahigh of 52. There will be some periods of rain. Hopefully most of it early in the day so that we can dry out in time for the temple game at night. Sunday looks dry but cooler. The order from a judge to release video showing an officer gunning down an armed teen in chicago with the city already on edge. This was the scene of so many issues yesterday, that headon collision on 295 in gloucester county. Right now looking at 295 on the waze app and here the new jersey turnpike. If youre traveling up towards cherry hill or youre going to go up towards 42 and up and over the ben franklin or walt whitman bridge you could see weve got no problems as you commute. No one reporting any issues out there just yet. I want to show you the temperatures, though, because the cold is an issue for me. I dont know about you. 29 degrees in warrington. 27 in saint davids and chester. Weve got 27 degrees in levittown. Hang today prosecutors are expected to charge a veteran Chicago Police officer with first degree murder in the shooting of a black teenager. 17yearold Laquan Mcdonald was armed with a live in when he was shot last year by officer jason van dyk. Police say mcdonald had pcp in his system and ignored orders to drop the weapon so the officer unloaded 16 rounds into his body. A judge has ordered the city to release the Police Dashcam video from that night. Put out by the slick police by the union that a Police Officer will to shoot him in selfdefense there he was approaching the Police Officer and lunched at a Police Officer with a knife. Not true. He was shot while he was walking away. The city of chicago is bracing for the possibility that mcdonalds death could ignite violent protests. The babysitter accused of kidnapping a massachusetts toddler found naked with her little head shaved is now hallucinating. A court psychologist testified yesterday that Abigail Hannah also has expressed suicidal thoughts. Hannah could barely stand on her own as her attorney entered a not guilty plea for her. Authorities say hannah used to babysit for Lyndon Albers and then kidnapped the child after breaking into her home. A couple found the baby girl an albers is now recovering at home.
