A highjacked egyptair plane has landed safely in cyprus an island in the Mediterranean Sea and the president of that country is now saying the incident is not pr related to terrorism. A passenger claiming to be armed with an explosive belt forced the flight to change course. So far negotiations with the highjacker have resulted in the release of all passengers except for the crew and four foreigners. The highjacker is said to be an egyptianamerican with dual citizenship and hes a doctor demanding a translator and political asylum. Stay with action news and 6abc. Com as they try to get all of those people including the highjacker off the plane. Developing right now, the search for a hit and run driver who struck the victim so violently the mans body ended up in a burger king parking lot. Action News Reporter Katherine Scott is live where this happened along route 130 in pennsauken. Katherine. Reporter matt, at this point police havent released a description of the vehicle but we do know theres front end damage to that vehicle. They also have not released the identity of the victim. Now, this happened last night here along route 130 in the southbound lanes in pen salk can ken. The road is opened right now but it was closed for hours for the police investigation. Police say a man had been crossing right around here on route 130 near browning road around 11 30 last night. According to police, he made it out to the median before being struck by a vehicle traveling south. The man was then thrown across the southbound lanes and he landed in a parking lot near a burger king and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police were here looking for evidence and they did recover a front bumper that came off the striking vehicle and again, we dont have a description of the vehicle but there are a lot of businesses around here and the hope is that there are some surveillance cameras that can can provide more information to police. A farmer on the ground noticed smoke on the Cranston Heights property just before midnight. He was able to rescue about a dozen animals. The barn sits on an Historic Property from the 1700s. Now operated as green bank mill, a living history museum. Dozens of bricks fell off of a building and crashed right onto north broad street overnight. Fortunately it happened at an hour where there werent a lot of people outside. No one was hurt. Building inspectors are now on the scene in north philadelphia to determine a cause. Police have closed off the sidewalk and one lane of broad street while crews clean up the debris. The Capitol Visitors Center in washington will be opened today following a Security Breach that forced police to open fire. 66yearold larry dawson of tennessee is charged with assault with a Deadly Weapon and assault on a Police Officer while armed. Police shot him yesterday saying dawson pulled a gun in the center. He is in stable but critical condition. A female bystander also sustained nonlifethreatening injuries. Now, police say they arrested dawson last year and issued a court order for him to stay away from capitol grounds. The American Airlines copilot who was taken off a flight bound for philadelphia over the weekend has been charged with operating under the influence. John maguire was escorted from the plane on suspicion of being drunk. Maguire is from chadds ford delaware county. Happening today, president barack obama will address the heroin and Prescription Drug epidemic that is sweeping the country. The Obama Administration will issue a proposed rule today that aims to increase medication based treatment for people addicted to opioids like codeine and morphine. A strange wreck left a driver dangling from a power pole for nearly two hours. This is new video of the rescue effort in tennessee. Crews reached the 56yearold driver by smashing in a window then lowering her down in a bucket truck. The vehicles fronts tire appeared to be caught on a guideline. Its not clear how the car ended up in that position. The woman was not hurt and no charges have been filed so far. Fire raced up the side of a highrise tower in the United Arab Emirate last night. The flames quickly spread to a second building. Hundreds of residents were evacuated. So far only minor injuries have been reported. Officials say they have brought the fire under control. Now, this comes just three months after a similar blaze at a hotel in dubai on new years eve. Police in west deptford, new jersey, have charged a man with aggravated assault after a video of a violent attack against a teenager went viral on the internet. Police say 26yearold Paul Cojocaru confessed to the crime. He was caught on cell phone video profusely beating a 17yearold boy at a National Park home. Police will not detail the motive behind the attack but they do say that the two are acquaintances. They say the 17yearold victim is okay and not in danger. New York City Police commissioners says an investigation is under way after officers arrested a postal worker. The march 17th confrontation was caught on cell phone video and that video shows four plainclothes officers and a lieutenant arresting postal worker glen graves. Gravers says he was delivering mail when an Unmarked Police car nearly hit him. He says he shouted something at the car and then the officer got out and demanded identification. Graves ended up handcuffed and then placed in the back that of Unmarked Police car. Africanamericans are targeted by cops. A criminal proved to be a real stick in the mud for police in houston, texas. Take a look at this new video. The suspect got stuck at the bottom of a river bank yesterday. He bailed out of a truck with a busted tire in an attempt to escape a police pursuit. Police eventually pulled him out of the muddy river. Thats where they got him and took him into custody. No getting out of that. Authorities have not said what prompted the man to run from police in the first place. The search is on for an inmate who escaped a North Carolina jail with the help of a toothbrush. The sheriff says 26yearold Kelvin Singleton somehow turned a toothbrush into a weapon and then forced an officer to let him out of the detention facility on sunday. The officer was not harmed. Singleton has been jailed on charges of robbery and Second Degree kidnapping. A Schuylkill County woman faces animal cruelty charges for killing two roosters. She says she did it because she he woke her up. The two roosters had been donated to the pioneer tunnel coal mine tourist attraction in ashland about a year ago. Police say 21yearold jena case so was sleeping when she heard the roosters coast guard just after 6 00 a. M. Last wee crowing just after 6 00 a. M. They never bothered anybody.
