The 50s and reading and lancaster not too bad but mid to upper 60s across the region and that is an indication that were starting to build that humidity back. 71 degrees by 7 oclock. If youre out for your morning workout youll need cool drinks before and after thats probably generally a good idea but especially today in the humidity. 78 degrees by 10 oclock and then by noon up to 84 degrees and it is going to be hot this afternoon with that high of 91 probably right in there about 4 oclock. Gets even hotter and perhaps little bit more humid over the next several days, matt. Well talk about that coming up in the seven day. Who is ready for a Pumpkin Spice latte . [laughter] were getting there. Not feeling like fall. Good morning to you david. Were feeling pretty good about the traffic so far this morning. Here along 95 northbound construction by the betsy ross bridge is cleared out of the way. Southbound just a little bit of building volume already headed towards center city. Of course the School Teachers are back on the roads, everybodys back from Summer Vacation so we are back to normal volume levels along 95 and the other highways. Were also back to normal here on the vine street expressway after overnight construction shut it down. Those crews have cleared out. Theyll return at 11 00 tonight but for now youre good to go on the vine street expressway. Were watching a downed tree this morning near villanova. Its blocking off montgomery avenue 320 by stone ridge lane. Old gulph road or county line road would be better bets. Theres also a crash near elkins park along latham park at old york road. Have a water main break as well near Oxford Circle blocking knorr street at somerdale avenue. Might want to use tyson or levick and Annie Mccormick will have more details on that coming up in just a bit. Tam. In just a bit is right now. Thank you matt pelman. People are waking up to that mess in northeast philadelphia where that water main break has flooded the roads. Lets go to Annie Mccormick live at the scene at somerdale avenue and knorr street. Good morning. Reporter good morning, tamala and to elaborate on what matt was just talking about were seeing caution tape here at the intersection of somerdale and knorr and i was the way down somerdale on the other end were still seeing caution tape up there too. Right now youre looking at mud, that is mud that is all over this portion of the roadway from that water main break. I just spoke to the spokesperson from the Philadelphia Water Department who tells me this is the result of an 8inch main break. It got reported around three clock this morning. Thats when they think it may have happened. It filled the roadway with mud and debris. You can see these cars a number of them they arent stuck but theyll have a lot of mud kicked around their vehicles so getting out into your car today might be a little bit of a hassle. Another big hassle for people waking up this morning is theres no water for at least 40 properties in this block. Now, the Water Department says they did have a crew come out here initially to shut off the main so that this wouldnt become worse and they will have crews back out here later on in the morning to fix this main and also to help clean up this muddy mess. For now reporting live from the northeast, Annie Mccormick, channel6 action news. Thank you annie. The familiar sound of the school bell will welcome philadelphia students back to class today. With state funding now in place there are no first day jitters for district officials this time around. Action News ReporterKatherine Scott is live in mount airy who will also have our traditional action news wakeup call looking forward to it katherine. Reporter absolutely matt and since we last spoke we moved from the school over to the neighborhood so very soon were going to be waking up an unsuspecting seventh grader and helping her get ready for school and shes one of thousands of Philadelphia School children who are getting ready to head back to class this morning. Ahead of the first day of school, School Officials gathered with teachers at nevinger elementary in bella vista yesterday and they were unpacking new books as part of a multimillion Dollar Campaign to improve literacy. Most of the classrooms and desks sat empty but they wont be for long. School district superintendent dr. William hite says this is the most optimistic hes been since hes been superintendent here and a big parter of that has to to with funding. The state budget deal was secured over the summer. Philadelphia Public Schools have about 50 million more in new money, new staff has been added to schools. Dr. Hite says theyre not where they want to be yet, theyre still without a teachers contract, for example, but they are starting to stabilize. Its nice having a state budget to start the year. Its nice not having to send individuals who are standing in front of children every day a letter saying we may not be able to pay you next month. And so thats nice. Its also a tangible difference this year is that we have nurses and counselors in every school. Reporter and he says theres also new technology in schools and we will be there later on this morning as dr. Hite and the mayor ring in the new term. Were live in mount airy Katherine Scott channel6 action news. All right, thank you, katherine. We do have future tracker6 showing you that over by the coast theres probably going to be a little bit more cloud cover than there will be inland. Tomorrow cold front comes in, more of a southerly flow bumps us up to 95. It will feel like one lunn and thats a pattern thats going to be with us through the end of the week. Your exclusive accuweather 7day 91 hotter a bit more humid today. Tomorrow near record heat with that high of 95 still on the sticky side and new record heat again on friday, 94. 96degree record here. 94 would tie the record on friday and that 96 on saturday is just one off the record there as well. By saturday night there could be a thunderstorm around. Some of that spills into early sunday morning and then things get better in the afternoon on sunday we dry out, 88 degrees hopefully dry in time for the eagles and much nicer weather arriving for monday and tuesday with low 80s and lower humidity. Keep in mind temple fans, union fans and eagles fans youll want cool drinks if youre going to those contests because it will be warm. Thank you david.
