May or may not hit you up there in reading. If it does it wont last long wont be much. 79 degrees in philadelphia so still pretty warm. 74 in allentown, 78 in wilmington, 78 in cape may. When you check out those dewpoints man its still oppressively muggy out there. Even in allentown and reading and trenton we have dewpoints of 70. As you get down into south jersey and delaware its even worse with dewpoints in the 70s. Your exclusive call from accuweather shows a warm and muggy start with a temperature of 79 by 8 oclock. Now by noon were at 86 and drier air will be working its way gradually in from the north so that areas around philadelphia and the northern suburbs will start to feel less humid. Still going to be hot this afternoon with a high of 92 but feeling a little bit better. The exception is down the shore in south jersey and did wear where the humidity levels are going to remain very high today and if youre headed to the Atlantic City air show later this morning and this afternoon you definitely want to bring along some cool drinks or plan on buying some. We have some changes ahead in the accuweather 7day forecast humiditywise and heatwise im tea tail that in the seven day. Karen what you got there. Starting with the roosevelt boulevard. A multivehicle o on the odd one boulevard southbound. We saw fire crews and ambulances and now we can see still a number of Police Officers here. They are at least allowing right now two lanes of traffic to get by. At one point they were blocking all lanes. Looks to me like it was two different accidents like at least one accident up here and another accident in the backlog. We see at least three vehicles. Police on the scene. At one point all lanes were blocked. So, you can see the backup as i step out here. Were already backed up at this point from ridge avenue to approaching wissahickon avenue and you can see the boulevard southbound jammed up approaching the schuylkill where it looks like we had two different accident scenes and multivehicle accident there. Now, i talked to police in Montgomery County and they told me about this problem theyre responding to right now. Its a pole that caught on fire so an electrical fire situation. Theyre waiting for peco to come and help them out. In the meantime they have crews on the scene and they had to shut town bethlehem pike between highland avenue and wise avenue. They shut down wise also. So a number of areas blocked off because of this electrical fire happening right now and you can stick to 309 as your alternate for that one. They told me but a problem where a downed tree branch here on pine road at philmont avenue and weve got a new problem in cheltenham. Somebody woke up and realized a tree was on a car so problems from the storms and were learning more of them as people are waking up and stepping outside. This is fox croft road at caleb way. Matt and tam. Thank you karen. Breaking this morning, flames have ripped through a south philadelphia Apartment Building. It hit two alarms and injured a firefighter. Annie mccormick is live at the scene in the 1300 block of South Broad Street. Good morning, annie. Reporter good morning, tamala. That one firefighter was taken to the hospital. He did suffer smoke inhalation and is in stable condition. You can see behind me they are making a lot of progress wrapping up this scene right now. Theyve end up a portion of broad street but now still broad and wharton is closed down but one building along this street on the righthand side you can see just a shell of what is left behind of that home. We are told that that is where the fire broke out. They described this as a twohour fire fight. Take a look at this video. The second alarm fire broke out just before 1 10 in the 1300 block of South Broad Street. Now, when crews arrived they saw heavy fire showing from the second and third floors of the threestory row home. Now, neighbors reported they saw a tree sparking near wires in the rear of the property. Residents say a passerby saw the flames and his honking and screaming is what alerted neighbors. They say Mother Nature did not help crews. When i first looked up it was only like a little bit of fire and then we came outer and it just like it went up and then the roof was on fire and there was lightning. Like you could see the lightning streaking through. It wasnt raining yet. And then all of a sudden it just started downpouring. Reporter now, no cause yet. The fire marshal is on the scene. Now, in that home where the fire broke out its a threestory row home, fire commissioner at the time when we spoke to him wasnt able to tell us how many tenants are in that home but he said at least one person he knows was inside. They did not have to be evacuated, though. So all the residents on this block are okay. About 75 firefighters responded about 20 apparatus. One reason for the heavy response is the no only because of the heavy fire but also because of the heat. Even they this is one of the coolest mornings that we have had all week, these firefighters, the men and women of the Philadelphia Fire Department have been fighting fires in this heat every day for the past two weeks and it is wearing on them. They say that that is definitely one factor but again, they got this under could he will in two hours and res he dents say they residents say they responded quickly. In south philadelphia Annie Mccormick channel6 action news. Back to you. A reminder of how hard they work. New this morning it was not a quiet night for fire crews in chester county. City controller Alan Butkovitz says more than 400,000 in surplus funds from the philadelphia marathon may have been used inappropriately. The money earned while mayor Michael Nutter was in office was meant for projects to benefit the entire city. Instead butkovitz says some of the cash went to a 52,000 hotel stay, 80dollar shoes and a threehour open bar event. The financial watchdog also claims nutter and his staff didnt go through the proper channels particularly when a 45,000 trip to rome for nutter and staff was flagged. If it was to promote the city as a tourist attraction or as a center for the papal visit why not go through all that regular scrutiny. For some reason the mayor didnt want to have that scrutinized. We had that watch box from last night with a couple of strong thunderstorms here and there. Thats all gone and all weve got now is just a real light sprinkle or shower that might be up around reading before too much longer. Most of us are probably just staying dry today though. 79 degrees currently in philadelphia, 74 in allentown, 78 in wilmington and 77 near the beach in cape may. Dewpoints unfortunately are still running high. 70 in allentown right now. 70 in trenton. 71 in philadelphia as you can see on the top line there anything of 70 or better is considered oppressive and as you get down into south jersey and delaware its even worse with higher dewpoints so this morning as you go out for the run or just head to the bus or the car or whatever it is going to be sticky with that temperature of 79 in philadelphia. By noon, though, 86 degrees. And flow of air coming down out of the west and northern west is going the start to lower those dewpoints and we will feel less humid in philadelphia and in points north through the afternoon. Firefighters head had to battle through heavy rain and lightning as they tried to put out a blaze at an Apartment Building this morning. One firefighter was injured. Action News Reporter Annie Mccormick is live at the fire scene on the 1300 block of South Broad Street. Annie. Reporter and matt thats right, one firefighter was taken to the hospital. No residents were injured. You can see behind me that this scene is almost clear now, still a couple of fire trucks that are out here. At one point they had about 75 firefighters, more than 20 apparatus out here working to fight this fire. The commissioner says it was a twohour fight. Well, take a look at this video. The two alarm fire broke out around 1 10 in the morning here in the 1300 block of South Broad Street. Now when crews arrived they arrived to heavy fire showing from the second and third floors of the threestory row home. At least one person lives in the row home but no residents were injured. Everyone got out. Now neighbors reported they saw a tree sparking near wires in the rear of the property. The commissioner says even though the storm cooled things down it is still hot and the men and women of the Philadelphia Fire Department have battled this heat for weeks. He also reported one injury. We had one firefighter who was taken to the hospital and apparently is in stable condition. This was an aggressive transitional attack by our fire department. Everybody has been working hard. Weve had a very busy couple weeks in the heat. A real challenge for us. This was a very challenging fire. Reporter now, that firefighter taken to the hospital we are told is in stable condition. Now, resident here on the block tell us that it was actually one person, a passerby there was in a vehicle that started honking the horn and screaming and that is what woke many people up and alerted them to the blades. Now we dont know a cause yet. The fire marshal is on scene. Hopefully well find out what the cause was in the next couple days. For now reporting live in south philadelphia, Annie Mccormick channel6 action news. Back to you. Thank you annie. David and youre saying that it looks pretty good in terms of no rain for the air show he. No rain for the air show but i would recommend cool drinks. Its going to stay really humid town at the shore. Not so much here. As we take a look at storm tracker6 double scan we are dry across most of the region. Theres been a hint of a sprinkle or shower trying to push into berks county but it looks like thats continuing to fall apart before it gets to places like reading. As we head outside we have sunshine a plenty coming up over the Commodore Barry bridge in chester pennsylvania looking upriver towards philadelphia camden and gloucester counties and unfortunately still a little bit humid out there for now. Temperatures dipped to 79 in philadelphia. The dewpoint is still at 71. Its starting to come down a little bit. But for now still feeling pretty oppressive out there. The winds have turned out of the west and thats going to be a good source region for us bringing in drier air and lowering that number making it feel less humid later in the day. Overnight we had some showers and thunderstorms. Watch box for awhile last night, thats now gone. There are those showers that continue to erode out to our north and west and as we plan our day, well, plan on it starting out sticky and warm with that temperature of 79 by 8 oclock and 82 by 10 oclock. But as we go into the afternoon, especially from about philadelphia all the way up through the Lehigh Valley and poconos, you will see the humidity levels drop with that drier air coming in. By 3 oclock, it will still be hot in philadelphia with a high of 92 but dewpoints somewhere in the low to mid 60s rather than the 70s so not as oppressively humid. Now, the difference will be down the shore and well talk more about that in a moment. 92 is todays high in philadelphia. Looks like were staying in the upper 80s in trenton, allentown, reading, mid 80s out in lancaster. 91 in millville, upper 80s down the shore. Closer look shows you a lot of 88s and 89s and again from about here on down Atlantic County and maybe the southern tip of Gloucester County and points south its going to stay very humid today. So, drier air coming in up north and in through philadelphia but not so at the shore. Heat index values will be up over a hundred degrees on the beach so if you are headed to that air show in Atlantic City to plan on drinking the cool waters and staying hydrated. 89 is the high in cape may. Same story in delaware. Farther and farther south in delaware the higher humidity is going to be. Gun it will be more uncomfortable. Heres dewpoints sort of showing you what were talking about. Between 10 30 and three he clock you can see how that higher humidity air does get shoved farther to the south and it does get more comfortable in through here. Unfortunately all the way through this evening it just stays on the humid side down south. As we take a look at future tracker6 tonight theres also the channel ochance of a passinr thunderstorm overnight. You your seven day slows a high of 92. Heat wave continues the longest of the season with that high of 92 but a good chunk of the area will feel less humid. Tomorrow partly sunny and we have a chance of officially ending the heat wave in philadelphia with a high of 89. We could actually get back up to 90. Were kind of on the bubble there. Either way its still going to be a fairly uncomfortable day with humidity levels popping back up a little bit and an afternoon thunderstorm in a couple of neighborhoods. Then mostly sunny and hot on friday 91 and for the weekend another surge of higher heat and humidity comes in. I have an app ahead of an approaching cold front. Saturday it will be sticky. Hydrate if youre heading to the phillies at night or the union match in chester on saturday night. Sunday hot and humid with a better chance of an afternoon thunderstorm but on monday back into the 80s and by tuesday it is really going to be nice around here again with low 80s and low humidity.
