WPVI Action News At 600 AM March 1, 2017

Afternoon. Perhaps into early this evening for the potential for severe thunderstorms. This entire area colored by yellow means theres a slight risk of Severe Weather today. Out to the other side of lancaster where you see a Little Orange creeping in, thats a moderate risk and what this means is that any storms that form this afternoon or this evening could fire up some strong gusty damaging winds, perhaps a little hail and frequent lightning wouldnt even be totally out of the question if somewhere in wide yellow area we get a little tornado popping, too, but well see about that. In the meantime a cloudy start today, mild. Weve got the showers out to the west that will probably come rolling in during the morning and then thunderstorms later this afternoon. Little fog here and there, too, wherever you see the gray patchiness thats where the chance of fog is the best. Right now thats mostly in south jersey and maybe out in Chester County. But if you see some of that, do slow down. I got a little bit of just a faint hint of fog on the temperatures are mild. 57 degrees in philadelphia. In fact most of us in the upper 50s right now so thats good. And as we roll into the afternoon it gets mild, a high of 74 degrees at 3 oclock. But again, in it time after about 2 00 or 2 30 welln the lookout for a line of thunderstorms coming in from the west. Not everybody sees them but those that do will want to take cover. Ill track them on future tracker6 coming up karen. All right dave we can still see that fog on i95 here in delaware county. Kind of see it in the distance. Not as bad as it was maybe an hour ago but if youre traveling between wilmington and the airport we have some fog still in that area. No big delay as youre traveling right now. On the vine street expressway fog is not a problems. Its just a little damp out here and no overnight construction scheduled this week so a little bit of building volume as you head specifically westbound on the vine. But other than that youre looking pretty good. You can see some of the fog on the roosevelt boulevard extension. Ouatr southbound traffic here heading towards the schuylkill. Little bit of fog but no other big deal. Weve got pretty light volume right there. On the schuylkill at conshohocken we had a and disabled vehicle that just cleared. It was off to the side. We had police and penndot helping with that but thats cleared and all lanes opened. Looking pretty good on the schuylkill. One more live look ben franklin bridge moving fine, little damp, some light volume. We had speed restrictions earlier at the Commodore Barry bridge because of the fog but now that the fog is improving in that area theyre lifted those restrictions, matt. Thank you, karen. Police say theyre looking over Surveillance Video and also have gathered some forensic evidence from the scene as they continue to look for the people responsible. As of right now we have no leads. Reporter tuesday night concerned residents received an update from Philadelphia Police about the investigation into the desecration at Mount Carmel Cemetery. New in the investigation, Police Believe the crime took place sometime between midnight friday and sunday morning. Investigators have gathered forensic evidence from the scene, the fbi is assisting Philadelphia Police. Police believe vandals pushed and knocked over almost a hundred tombstones in the Historic Jewish cemetery. The Jewish Federation of greater philadelphia organized a cleanup yesterday. People from all faiths joined in to help. This destruction has a deeper impact to many especially those who have family who survived the holocaust. This is pure hate. I dont see this as vandalism. I just see this as pure hatred. How could people do this. Present to witness the destruction then seeing it, seeing the tombstones of family members that were crushed and to come and see this in america i never thought that would happen. Reporter now, along with finding the people responsible part of the investigation is also to find out what the motive is, if this cemetery was targeted because it is a Jewish Cemetery or if it was picked at random. As for the volunteers, we are told that all of those slots are full. There is a rally on thursday at noon that the Jewish Federation is urging everyone to come to. Also they say for the work that is done here for the volunteers, its mostly cleaning up leaves. They do want to make sure that people are safe, that theyre not lifting those tombstones. Thanks maribel. Some of the rain starting to move across pennsylvania. Yeah well get morning showers maybe a rumble of thunder this morning but then some strong thunderstorms possible in a couple of spots this afternoon. Storm tracker6 live double scan right now shows you that we are moistening things up on the other side of harrisburg. Before the end of the morning commute some of us will probably see some of that rain. As we take a look outside we have cloudy skies for the most part a bit of patchy around the region including the the airport. Looks like a couple of those big what are those British Airways planes maybe lining up getting ready to cross the pond to england . Well see about that. Might be american. Im not sure. Anyway weve got temperatures that are going to treat you nicely on the way out the door this morning. 57 degrees in philadelphia. In fact most of the area in the mid to upper 50s. Away from the shore and even there youre close to 50. In terms of rain a morning shower or a rumble of thunder possible. It looks like most of this wants to track toward the northern suburbs. If you do hear a rumble of thunder this morning, i dont think this morning are the severe thunderstorms. Lightning is always a possibility so be careful of that when those storms are passing through but thats not really the big impact. If you have things to get done today, you can probably get them done by like noon, 1 00, 2 oclock. After we get past about two or 2 30 were on the lookout for this thunderstorm line to begin to develop. Karen was commenting on how thin it seems. Its not the kind of thing that is necessarily going to impact you for a long period of time but as it comes through for about 30 to 45 minutes you have an issue with gusts out ahead of this storm, heavy pounding rain, lots of lightning as it comes through and then even behind it you can get some jumpback lightning so maybe 45 to 60 minutes is what you have to plan to sort of slow down and just hold steady. If this does come through with this timing it would begin close to philadelphia around the time kids are coming home from school and ive been telling parents to let the kids know, you know what if you have to walk home from school and theres a thunderstorm on top of you just stay in the building for a half hour and let it pass. By 4 30 or 5 oclock looks like most of this is over towards the coast. By the time we head into the rush hour its mostly over. I cant vouch for that timing, though. It depend on how quick the front comes through. Hopefully were beginning to dry out by 6 oclock and then in the overnight hours a couple more showers possible. Up in allentown, were going for a high of 71 today, ahead of all of this, clouds, some sun. The more sun you break out ahead of the storms by the way the better chance you have of a thunderstorm. If you stay cloudy most of the day, your area may just get some rain. Down the shore, clouds, some sun, a thunderstorm chance there as well late today, 65 is the high and 74 is your highly in philadelphia with clouds, some sun, a thunderstorm chance is possible and then after that storm system gets off the coast we start to cool down. Your exclusive accuweather 7day, 74 today twarm conditions out there with that strong thunderstorm potentially in some areas later this afternoon. Take cover indoors on the lower floors as those pass through. And then windy and cooler tomorrow, 49 and all the way down to 42 on friday with a passing rain or t snow shower. And then saturday sunny and chilly, 44. Back to 52 on sunday with maybe a morning shower and were back up into the low 60s on monday and tuesday as we just cant seem to get a big crush of cold air to stick around very long. Darn. Sad, right. [laughter] it is 6 12 and look out below. A driver on the run from Police Launches a truck into the air and lands in a parking lot where theres now some serious. A woman who always thought she had a weight problem loses nearly 200 pounds in one day when doctors make a surprising discovery. Brand new on our next half hour. Karen. I have to see that. Weve got two new accidents in the same spot, both on the schuylkill expressway. One here, one here. Schuylkill westbound at university avenue. Well talk about this and other accidents just coming in all next. Wheres frank . Its league night saved money on motorcycle insurance with geico goin up the country. Bowl without me. Frank. im going to get nachos. Snack bars closed. Gah ah, ah ah. Im goin up the country, baby dont you wanna go . Im goin up the country, baby dont you wanna go . Geico motorcycle, great rates for great rides. Welcome back. Taking a live look here penns landing. Were looking out over the river rink but not a day necessarily where its going to feel like a day to go ice skating. Its already 57 degrees and going to be a warm one, up into the 70s today. How are the roads shaping up right now, karen . Why always the schuylkill having the problems . Thats a great question. Now weve got two problems in the same spot. So theres an accident right here. This is all westbound on the schuylkill at university avenue. An accident blocking the left lane. Weve got police and emergency workers there. Also one at the end of the ramp and it looks like this car is kind of facing sideways. Look how everybody is jammed. They have to try to merge. Up here theyre jammed because one of the lanes is blocked. Schuylkill westbound at university, two accidents, two separate accidents and were jammed from past passyunk to university on the schuylkill expressway. Lets look at the big picture right now and you can see those speeds because of those two accidents, 7 miles an hour at this hour. You know thats a real jam on the schuylkill westbound. Starting to slow down on i95, 23 miles an hour southbound near girard. The rest of the schuylkill is looking okay at this point. Chester county a report of an accident coming in here as well. This is new on the 30 bypass eastbound approaching 340, so expect isnt delays there. Also an accident thats new in limerick on louis road at limerick road. I want to take you live to cape may. Take a look at the fog. Were seeing it here on the garden state parkway at the cape may toll plaza. Foggy right there. Were not seeing that fog in the city. We have five mile visibility right now at philadelphia. Look at this, 9mile visibility in wilmington. The fog was so bad there we were less than a mile a little earlier but it is still less than a mile in millville, 3 miles in Atlantic City so the fog is a problem in parts of the region. The other big problem these storms that are headed our way. Well get some showers coming late this morning and then another round to could be strong to severe later in the afternoon, matt. We will take cover. Thanks karen. A police chase in louisiana ended like a scene out of a movie. Cell phone video here shows that pickup truck going down an embankment and then airborne.
