We have a patch of showers moving along the Southern Coast this morning. You can see some of the clouds associated that. Those are starting to drift to the north. If you are traveling around today and heading to the beach it looks like it will tend to be dry of more than wet today. There could be passing showers or an isolated thunderstorm. A mix of clouds and sunshine with highs 70 to 78. Towards the mountains mainly cloudy skies. There is a chance of rain and rain showers through early afternoon. Less than later with highs upper 50s. Around here an increasing chance of showers through midday and the afternoon. Should be 61 at eight this morning with a mix of clouds and sun. Mostly cloudy at lunchtime and mainly cloudy by 3 or 4 00 this afternoon when we hit our High Temperature in the 70s. Security drills are underway the noncombat practice courses good luck to thousands set to run the tobacco marathon this morning. It starts at 8 00 in cary. Reporter making these temptations a treat rather than a staple of the american pantry. Ann thompson, nbc news new york. So hard sometimes though when you have a sweet tooth. All right. Voters across our state go to the polls in just a few days. Tuesday. So how important is the North Carolina win to president ial candidates . Meet the press moderator chuck matters most on lifes morning multitasking for a growing family, and drawers with many layers, to show exactly what you need. Lifes sharing a meal. And a kitchen with room for everyone. Spend 4000 or more on a new kitchen you know, state lawmakers moved up our primaries so that North Carolina will count in the president ial primary races. Really want to make it more after battleground. We are hearing a lot about florida and other states ahead of tuesdays contest. Meet the press Moderator Chuck Todd addresses political headlines every week. He joins us live from washington, d. C. Good morning. Good morning. I love talking politics with you. So lets go ahead and start. A lot of these candidates will be visiting our state tomorrow, but why is that that experts really havent talked a lot about North Carolina . Especially, like i mentioned, because we even moved up the primaries hoping for a little more of that. Right. Well, part of it has to do with who is running for president. And a senator from florida. So florida and ohio have just taken on this added significance because of kasich and rubio. Throw in the fact that of the five states florida and ohio, you win by a vote, you win all the delegates in ohio and you win all the delegates in florida. In North Carolina, its going to be proportional. And if the expectation is, for instance, that trump and cruz are going to be very close. But it may not matter if one wins by a point. They sort of split the delegates in half. Because of that, thats why you have had this extra focus in florida and ohio. The home state candidates combined with how the two states are awarding delegates. Lets talk about the numbers. A wral poll Shows Hillary clinton and donald trump easily winning North Carolina. So what do you make of those numbers . I would be a little bit of caution to the win on the republican side of things here a little bit. I think trumps ahead. I think there is no doubt. Spending a lot of money in North Carolina, spending more time there. I think its going to do a lot better than people realize. I think its going to be a lot closer than some of the polling has shown on the republican side of things. On the democratic side, look, North Carolina is the North Carolina and florida are the two states in the Clinton Campaign are most confident in. Part of that has do with the nature of the democratic electorate in those states. A high, nonwhite population in the democratic primaries of North Carolina and florida. So it would be a surprise if Hillary Clinton didnt win by a significant margin, i think, on tuesday in North Carolina. Lets get back to trump. You know in North Carolina there was a bit of a violent moment, if you will. And then we saw things escalate in chicago. What do you make of that and how that impacts of voters . Well, look, first of all, we have to talk about the situation. We are entering a dangerous moment in politics. Concerned that the escalated rhetoric has sort of hardened feelings on both sides of the protrump and antitrump speck strum here. I think that at some point cooler heads need to prevail. That was a dangerous moment that we saw in North Carolina and then it escalated in exclusive st. Louis and yet again in chicago and yesterday it was even more uncertain and unsteady at trump rally. So, look, i think its something that a lot of folks are concerned about. That said, the political impact on trump, its likely that this stiffened the spine of his supporters. Every time that opponents of trump believe that these outrageous statements are going to hurt him, it turns into helping him. And so i wouldnt be surprised if this ends up helping him on tuesday. Chuck todd, thanks so much. Meet the press begins at 10 00 a. M. We will see chuck then. Again thank you so much, chuck. Lets get on over to mike moss. He is standing by to talk what a Beautiful Day its expected to be. Hey, mike. Good morning, leyla. Yeah, a day that starts off pretty here. We have got a nice just pretty sunrise. Sun coming up in 10 minutes or so. We have got mostly cloudy skies. As you can see, there is some breaks, places that will start out with fairly bright skies early on today. It will be mostly cloudy overall. Midday and through the afternoon, we will start to develop a chance of some showers and maybe a thunderstorm or two. We are at 63 right now at Raleigh Durham airport with a southwest wind at 3 miles per hour. A dewpoint of 59. A pressure of 30. 01 inches and falling. As we look at town by town areas, 59 degrees for roxboro, 5 in rocky mount to start the day. Of63 in goldsboro. A mild start to the day. Temperatures above normal for this early on. We go on along. Here is a look at satellite and radar. Yesterday periods of cloud cover. Mid 70s to ease for our high yesterday. Since then we have been watching this low pressure area weaken to the west and move to the north. Another disturbance coming across north texas. Thats going to bring a chance of possibly Severe Weather to arkansas today and surroundings. We arent expecting Severe Weather here today, but we do have a first disturbance going by that will bring this band of moisture up towards North Carolina a little further. As we get to the midday and afternoon hours some of that will probably translate into hit and miss shower activity for us and perhaps an isolated thunderstorm or two mixed in. Not expecting it to be severe, but perhaps a rumble or two of thunder. Here is the area where the better chances of Severe Weather are today. Arkansas, western parts of mississippi, maybe eastern parts of oklahoma where you see the yellow shading for an elevated enhanced risk and the expectation there is mainly some localized damaging winds and large hail.
