Donny headed to the big premiere party where he met up with christie and his entire cast. Later at the after party, a relieved donny enjoyed a job well done. We love you access hollywood. Well see you next time. My shirts staying on, i my shirts staying on, i ic] hey, my name is mattherwood. My name is dan sherwood. And were out in farmingville, new york, where i live with my mom terry and my brother dan. I would say the best part up being a twin is that people take interest in you, whether its girls. People kind of wanna get to know you a little bit more, because they think its an interesting thing. We get along really well, having someone whos literally your equal in every in every way. We could switch classes every now and then. We played sports, same friends growing up. So its interesting when your brother is also part of your group of best friends, because you never have to go far. You never have to worry about him dodging your calls, because you just go in the next room, and bang on the door and just tell him, wake up, or we got something to do. Today, were gonna go and let matthew and daniel know that we got their email. Their mom terry three years ago was diagnosed with als. And i just wanna do what i can to help them help their mom. Which ones . Wait. Im gonna get it. My mom always was kind of strong, caring, tough. Tough. I dont think anyone could inherit all that toughness, because there was a lot to go around. She quit her job when she had us. And for 15 years, kind of just raised us, and we were her only focus. Were kind of all shes got. She still calls us her babies. So. Right around the time we were graduating from college, she started feeling weakness and kind of off. So she went to doctor after doctor, looking for a diagnosis. About three years ago, my mom got her diagnosis of als. Around this time last year, the ice bucket challenge was going on, and that was a great way to educate people. Because before my mom had it, i had no idea what this was. Its a neurodegenerative disease where your body, basically, attacks itself. She went gradually from a cane to a walker to a wheelchair. Shes all there mentally, would love to communicate with all of us, but she cant. My mom was always involved heavily in the community. So she build friendships that have lasted our entire life. And now everyone is doing their best to kind of return that favor. Anybody stop by . Peggy . Peggy came by . Just lately its been in turning into a much tougher time for her. Taking care of a parent at any age, its a big responsibility. But at 26 . I mean, geez, i was just finding my way in the world. I just wanna do whatever i can to help em. So initially we completely renat the upstairsat the contractor had recommended that we get a chair lift that she could just ride upstairs. We dumped a good amount of money into there. And unfortunately, now shes a little too far gone to even use the lift. She is now 100 percent to the first floor of the house. The choice was no longer hers. It just had to happen. Were two young guys. Were not made of money. So were back at square one. So our mom is currently living in what used to be our living room and is her bed room. The first thing you see when you walk in, hospital bed. Theres no privacy there. Thats the house on the corner. Lets go surprise em. I want to be here. I want to spend time with my mom. I dont want her to be alone. We just knew theres way more important things than moving out on your own, and that little bit of independence is not worth missing out on valuable years at home with mom. Its the least we could do. After 25 years of taking care of us, we could give her a little bit back. This would definitely inspire her and motivate her to keep fighting more and more of her independence. You want to see some waterworks, you should show her the renovations. Shell lose it. You might see her leave the chair for the first time in a couple years. She might walk. She might stand up and take a few steps. She would lose it. Hey, whats up . Hey hows it going . Hi, terry. How are you . Which ones matthew . Which ones daniel . Matt, dan. Matt and dan . All right. So you guys know who i am . Yeah, its george. So nice to meet you. Yup. So if you know my name, you know what im here to do . Yeah, youre coming to the rescue took the words right out of my mouth. When george was at the door and my mom realized that she was being rescued, i was pretty sure she was gonna cut off the circulation to my hand. She was squeezing me so tight. She was beyond excited. Wow, you have an amazing smile. Terry, how are you . So nice to meet you. The fact that george is gonna rescue my mom, its gonna take a little bit off everybodys load, and its gonna just make things a lot better for our family. Im sorry that what you guys put in before is not working, so im here to make it 1,000 times better. I just wanna do what i can to make your life easier and make you more comfortable. And at 26, i was literally a babe in the woods. I couldnt even take care of myself. Obviously, you know youve got amazing sons, and they love their mom. Thats right. So were here to do what we can to make life a little easier for you. What great news. Thank you. So im guessing that this living room right here is what you guys have turned into moms bedroom. Yes, exactly. You guys wanna give me a quick tour . See what were dealing with . Yeah, come over here. Lets take a look. George thats the commode. This is your bed. Matthew thats all the privacy you get. George all the privacy you get is from this screen right here . Daniel thats it. I mean, im sure you like seeing everybody when they come to visit, but itd be better on your own terms. Matthew exactly george this is a definitely a living room turned into a bedroom, not a bedroom. Matthew exactly. George and so i think we can definitely turn it into something special, something proper for you. If you could tell george one thing right now, what would you say . Computer thank you so much, george and crew, from the bottom of my heart. Daniel nice. Josh, nancy, welcome to the sherwoods house. What would be formal living room is actually terrys bedroom. What were really focusing on on this project is accessibility and privacy. Privacy is definitely that the most important thing, giving her a little bit of her own space, her own retreat, and also not walking into somebodys bedroom. Because this is the entry foyer, maybe some french doors . George love it. And then rearrange the furniture so that shes not the focal point of the room, maybe create a little bit of a seating area, so when people are visiting her in the space, they have somewhere to sit and really just make it feel more like a bedroom. I think we really just gotta find a way where comfort and function meet somewhere in the middle, and complement each other well. I love that. So thats the privacy side. The other one is accessibility. Theres only one little small bathroom here. Theres no way terrys fitting in here with her wheelchair. No. And i dont even know how her sons, who are big guys, fit in this bathroom. Theres no elbow room. Josh definitely tiny. Nancy its definitely small. Its a tight squeeze. Ada code calls for a five foot turn radius inside the center of the bathroom for her to maneuver. This is about four feet, maybe . Yeah, four feet might even be being a little generous. All right. So you guys got me worried. Where are we gonna find the space to make this bathroom bigger . Announcer george to the rescue is sponsored in part by coldwell banker, where home begins. And we have a kitchen that way. So that leaves these two walls to deal with. The most practical thing is definitely to take this wall out and cut into the laundry room. Well be ok in terms of front to back, but in terms of the depth of the room, i think were still gonna be short. I think were gonna have no choice but to move this wall. You wanna move wall right here . Yeah, i think we should look into shifting that wall forward about three feet. We gotta make sure, obviously, its structurally sound that we can do that, right . Josh absolutely. And then also we have to accessibility to get out onto this back porch. Josh remove the double door. Go with a single door. George all right. I like that. Josh still keep it 36 inches wide, so that can still get in and out with the wheelchair no problem. I dont really think it affects the family room all that much. Theres still enough place for a seating area. Ok. But once we bring this wall forward, were basically touching 25 of this room anyway. So lets just do it. So at that point, we should just do this room, make it part of the overall plan of what were doing here. So no matter how big or small the crew is, safety always has to come first. I got three respirators for you. I got glasses for you. I got ear protection and hard hats, so you can protect your eyes, ears, lungs, and heads. Thank you. And we are ready for demo. Lets get this thing underway. Lets go. Lets do it. Got any use for that, my friend . I can take that. All right. George so were taking down this wall. Josh definitely have water supply, drain, and air vent, electrical. So . So this is gonna be probably where we take the most precaution. This is not the wall you wanna just start throwing the sledgehammer willynilly. No. Or grab the saw and just you never really know what youre gonna get with construction until you open up the walls. What . That is what im talking when i said do not sledgehammer or saws on that wall. So basically what we originally anticipated with the plumbing was that there was going to be maybe three, four lines in the wall. Yikes. Thats a lot of pipes. We have eight or nine vital lines running through that wall. We got a symphony of pipes in here. Well, plumbing scope just tripled. We needed an open space in which terry can navigate. Correct, correct. And this wall is hindering that. Theres currently no access below, because theres basement here, which would require some sawcutting, some jackhammering, and a lot of elbow grease. Some fun. Yeah, yeah. Im glad we found this together. Yeah, you and me both. Memories, you know . Making memories. Well do toilet, vanity, shower, door. Yeah . Truth be told, the plumber is really gonna dictate where things are gonna go at this point. To a certain extent, yeah. Its a classic Home Improvement dance of trying to of figure out how to make it work and make it aesthetically pleasing. And thats why you bring in pros, and thats why you bring in designers. Together, well figure this out. Oh. Water damage. Water damage . Yeah. Oh, is that rot . Thats the plywood above their bathroom upstairs. Oh, delicious, feels like cereal. Making it rain, george, making it rain. Announcer george to the rescue is sponsored in part by 3m. For more information about 3m products or to find a retailer near you, go to 3m. Com. Yeah, it looks to me like moms bathroom on the second floor has had a leak for quite some time. We were talking about giving them a laundry room upstairs so they still have a laundry room. Yeah. So were gonna be opening up that shower anyway to convert that, so we could address the rot issue then. So, josh, if this all has to stay put, how are we gonna reconfigure this bathroom . Were gonna wrap these pipes inside of a wall. Nancy really came up with a beautiful tile design thats gonna work on that wall. This is actually almost a blessing in disguise because of the privacy aspect. I guess we just gotta keep digging, do some cutting, and pull up some old tiles so that we can get this thing rebuilt. Josh yeah. Good news is, blackman truck just arrived with all our supplies. Why dont you take the cold . Sure, works for me. Sean, you take the hot. Sean you got it. Martin, you just give me whatever else. All right. Hey, george, let me show you something over here. Yeah. Laminated flooring starting to delaminate on us and fall apart. So what that is a sign of is water intrusion coming from underneath the old door here. This last five feet of patio was all back pitched towards the house, so whenever it rains, runoff, snow melts, all of this water, instead of going away, is all coming back here. In order to protect everything were doing in there, we gotta do something with this patio. Patios gonna come out. Were just gonna rip the whole patio out. Rip the whole patio out. All right. Thats a little bit out of the scope. Be safe to say i am hot, sweaty, and dirty. But i got a great idea on how to cool off. Whats up, guys . Oh, hey, george. How you doing . What are you doing here . Oh, you know, thought id surprise you on a hot day. Whats up, george . Nice shirt. You like that . This should give you some sort of clue as to why im here with the ice buckets. I wanna challenge you two to the ice bucket challenge. We definitely accept the challenge. The ice bucket challenge basically consists of taking a bucket of ice and water and pouring it over your head to raise awareness and funds for als. Woo thats the one you dont want. Ill take that. Ill take this one. Im really excited and honored to be doing the als ice bucket challenge with these guys. Real quick. I have to wear these when i go back, so shoes off. Yeah. Who should we challenge . Id id like to call out josh, the contractor whos been helping us with this project. All right. So ill call out nancy, the designer whos helping us out. And im calling out the entire george to the rescue crew. Awesome. All right. So youve been challenged. Three, two, one. Oh man. Im cooled down. I mean, i like to think that were a couple of popular guys, but bringing in george and the Television Show is really huge to spread it and even have a further reach than the two of us could have had alone. You guys are next. Youve been challenged. Woo george guys, me the shot where it lands on my head. George good, man. Im just checking out this mess of a backyard. Yeah, so i know this your brother . This to my father jeff. No way. How you doing, george . Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Thanks for coming on board and helping us out. Not only are we doing the whole inside for the family, but giving them this outside living room is just gonna be huge. So what were gonna do is take the cambridge paving stones and just make it a little bit bigger so we can make a sitting area on the side. Were gonna put a little fire pit, an area for the barbecue, some planting areas. I got my crew from affatato paving to come down and install it. Theyll have years of enjoyment back here. Lets see if we can make that ramp. And we did and were off to the races. So, josh, now that we got the drywall up, its all spackled, time to sand s
