Tonight, a family is speaking out about the dangers of synthetic marijuana. They say drugs like karcz2, put their son in a downward spiral, leading to his death. Soon, those drugs will be banned worldwide. More on the impact they had on this family. This family is incredibly strong, considering everything theyve been through, as you mentioned, one son died. They nearly lost a second son. And they blame this stuff, synthetic marijuana. Right now, perfectly legal here in the state of maryland. But thats about to change. I firmly believe that my son would still be here today if he hadnt started using k2. In an exclusive interview, the family talks about the tragic loss of their 22yearold son charlie, a loss they blame on synthetic marijuana. It was terrible to watch, you know, someone you love and care about go through this, like, it was torment. Charlie was an actor, sangar, performer. But last july, the Silver Spring man who struggled with addiction, took his own life. He decided to try k2, and in an effort to get off methadone. His parents said smoking k2, sold legally in maryland, led to the downward spiral, the loss of hope, and their sons suicide. He started to lose hope. We could tell he just had a lot of difficulty coping with life. Come tuesday, k2 and other synthetic drugs like spice and fake pot that are currently sold in tobacco shops and Convenience Stores will be banned when a new law takes effect in maryland. I dont want anyone to go through what our family has gone through. He was my best friend. Charlies little brother is on a heart monitor. Paramedics were called to his house after he spomoked k2. Apone wants say the new law is a flagrant disregard of Second Amendment gun rights. Disapproval from the county is forcing the Volunteer Fire Department in Prince Georges County to take a firearm fundraiser to nearby charles county. Theyre raising money now for facility and equipment upgrades. Prince georges fire officials tell us tonight theyre concerned about the image of a Public Safety agency selling guns. There is concern tonight in an arlington Apartment Building where a creepy intruder struck three times, and just over a week. Another victim said she awoke to the man stroking her arm. Access to this building is restricted, so police are looking into whether this could be an inside job. Tonight, reaction from fair fax county residents after a new report that crime overall is down, but serious offenses are up. Comparing 2012 to the year before, there were four more homicides, kidnapping abduction cases went up, and so did forcible sex offenses. More now on a United Airlines pilot who died after an inflight heart attack last night. Less than a decade ago, faa regulations would have kept him out of the clock pot, and now some are wondering how hoold is too old to fly. The pilot was 63 years old. They used to require retirement at 60 and raised it in 07 to 65. Still, pilots are subjected to checkups twice a year. Aviation experts also point to other safeguards that are already in place. One of the reasons there are two pilots in the airplane is in case one is incapacitated. Its part of the redunceancy system we use. A united spokesperson said that pilot had been with the airline for 26 years. His copilot landed the plane with a help of an off duty pilot who was on board. Two weeks ago, the seaside park boardwalk in new jersey went up in flames.
