This 7,500gallon tanker truck that flipped over and blocked the southbound lanes of 95 in laurel. The traffic backup went on for hours and for miles and for a time it went on in both. There was a spill and aha mat hazmat alert. They took no chances. In the side of the tank was a golf ballsized hole. We estimate it was about 400 gallons that had leaked out of thd to pump the fuel out of the other part of the tank . Thats correct. The tank all total carries 7,500 gallons so they were able to bring another tractortrailer in, pump the remaining biodiesel fuel out of that tank. Reporter there were four vehicles involved in the accident. Thee cars and that tanker truck. One woman take on the hospital her injuries described as minor. Police say because of the type of the accident because of that fuel spill, they had to be extra cautious. What about all the people stuck in their car while all of this was going on down there . How sit look veronica . Right now weve got rain falling on most roads across our area right now. We start out not only talking about the rain but the fog because that is going to be a big issue as we get into the overnight period. Let me show you the forecast here going out this evening. Yes, steady rain. Weve had some occasional showers today, but that rain becoming more uniform and steady. 47 degrees the temperature. The mercury will be holding steady. Fog starts thickening becoming dense by around 9 00 10 00. It continues throughout the overnight period. Heres storm team 4 radar. Rain all the way down i95 up toward hagerstown 72 70 95 all wet, in fact moderate rain right inside the beltway between bethesda and clinton, all pushing off to the east to areas like west laurel and bowie right are where that accident is. Might not sound like a whole lot, but with the melting snow that weve had going on for a while now, all that could cause some isolated issues around the area. I dont think were going to see any major problems but isolated. So what could we see . Standing water for sure on area roads. Ponding, yes, isolated flooding and any poor drainage areas. You still have a lot of snow that is going to turn into a block of ice and gunk and everything all around the drainage areas blocking the flow. So we could see that on area road. Take a look at all this rain thats been moving through the area from west to east and theres a lot more where this came from. Again, well hang on to just past midnight. I went ahead and looked at the rainfall rates. Around a quarter of an inch with this little line passing just on the other side of the beltway, northeast side of the beltway. Making its way towards bowie and laurel could see that one little area with rainfall rates around a quarter of an inch. Temperature at 46 degrees. I think well see the mercury fluctuate between 46 and 47 for the next few hours. So not a big change in what it feels like out there but what it looks like. Rain then fog. Again, youve got the melting snow the warmer air that will continue to steadily come up over it. Rainfall intensity forecast how much more were going to see, again, pockets of moderate rain until just past midnight that could cause some issues.
