When officers got there, they found shell casings and no victim. Friends of the victim drove him to the hospital where he died. Someone saw something. When we arrived, a lot of people scattered. What we need is those people to come forward and give us that information that they know. Investigators say that shooting happened as a bar was letting out. Only on 4 tonight. A maryland state trooper hurt in a bad accident on new years eve back on the job. The trooper himself says he survived the crash on i95. The trooper is actually eager to get back on the helping a couple whose car was stranded here on the side of i95. He says cars were zipping past him at 70, 80 miles an hour while he was doing so until one of those drivers slammed into the back of his cruiser. Trooper tristan philips cruiser was pinned against the guardrail. He had injuries to his neck, back, and knees. This is my old vehicle here. Reporter six months later, phillip has returned to the job at the barracks in jessop where that battered cruiser still sits in a side yard. When i first saw it, i was taken back to the actual accident. Wow, this is really bad. Reporter he says he remembers little of what happened after he was hit, but he does know he was sitting in the drivers seat on the shoulder and heard brakes squeal. The impact actually occurred right here. And he slid around and actually hit this whole side vehicle. Reporter and this part hit the car right in front of you . Yes. Reporter the car you were helping. Yes. Reporter drivers are supposed to shift over a lane when police or fire are on a shoulder. These types of incidents are still happening. At least seven troopers or other patrol cars have been hit on the side of the road just since january. At first, i was really in shock. Im not sure if it was adrenaline. You dont realize that youre actually injured. When things start to calm down, you really start to feel it. Reporter hes undergone physical therapy and has been placed back on light duty at the barracks handling desk work, but wants to be back on the road soon. Im just blessed to be here. Reporter there were charges filed against the driver in the crash. Well tell you how that turned out on news4 at for the men and women in our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice. It was part of a special tribute at the National Memorial day parade, which recognized the 75th anniversary of world war i ii, the 50th anniversary of the vietnam war, and the 25th anniversary of operation desert storm. Earlier today at the world war ii memorial, we spoke with a woman who drove here for hours on memorial day because she wanted to show her appreciation. Memorial day means freedom. It means sacrifice. It means courage that so many thousands of men died for our freedom. Reporter there are many reasons why people come here. My father was a world war ii veteran who fought in the south connections and others just want to say thanks. Just to be with the people who fought for us. Reporte the living veterans are so much older now and theyre dying at such a rapid rate. Reporter veterans like jack young, a medic in the army, who along with his comrades stormed the beaches of normandy in june of 1944. He continues to turn back around and wade into the ocean under brutal heavy nazi fire to pick up Wounded Soldiers out in the ocean. Reporter she had known him for years. She said he received several military honors like the bronze star and purple heart after being wounded by enemy fire. My friends texted me that his veteran father died this morning. Reporter that veteran was Corporal Jack young, one of countless american heros that we remember tod tess honored the sacrifice that he and so many others made during their lifetime so freedom would be part of ours. That generation paved the way for us. We owe it all to that generation and the generations before them. Reporter young is survived by two sons and his wife. They currently live in connecticut. A grieving family caught in the middle of a student loan bill dispute after the death of developing right now in prince georges county, police are looking for a killer after a woman was found dead in the laundry room of an adelphi Apartment Building. They just removed the body a little while ago, but they are focusing their investigation still around that laundry room, trying to figure out who killed this woman. Detectives worked from morning to afternoon investigating the body discovered in the laundry room of this garden style adelphi apartment complex. They discovered an adult w they were pronounced dead on the scene. Reporter it was the body of a woman who was badly beaten. Her name has not been released. By late afternoon, people who identified themselves as the possible victims family members came to the scene. Others waited hoping it wasnt someone they knew. Thats the only reason why im out here. I want to see who it is, if i can. Reporter the laundry room where the body was found is located in the basement of the complex and is accessed from an outside doorway. Police took pictures of vehicles in view of that laundry room and went door to door, talking with neighbors asking if they saw anything or anyone suspicious. Aour detectives are working o establish a suspect and motive at this time. Reporter what happened to this woman, who did it, and why. It is scary because you are just sleeping and you dont hear nothing. It is a dangerous neighborhood, but died in the it shouldnt even be open at that time. Then came a message from the irs. The letter stated that the 75,000 in andrews loans that had been forgiven would be declared as income and would actually be taxed. My parents were blindsided. Reporter but it didnt come as a surprise to eric working as an aid for chris coons. They investigated and found it was happening to thousands of families across the country. By law, the irs taxes forgiven bill to change that. Its important to get something done here in congress that will actually help families. Reporter the measure has spo support on both sides. The tax dollars the irs would be giving up is relatively small. The impact it would have for families who have lost a loved one would be huge. Im just glad that something the event that occurred and that his passing can effect a policy in a way that helps other people.
