Reporter well, the Maryland Court of appeals is deciding whether a defendant who faces trial can be compelled to testify against his codefendants. The appeals focus on Baltimore Police officer william porter. He testified at his own trial in december. It ended with a hung jury. He will be retried in june. Prosecutors want porter to testify against the five other Police Officers charged in the death of freddie gray who suffered a broken neck in the Police Transport van last april. Gray died a week later. The trial judge compelled porter to testify against two other officers with use immunity, which Means Nothing porter says can be used against him. Prosecutors want porter to repeat the system he gave at that van driver Caesar Goodson didnt secure gray with a seat belt and Sergeant Alicia white failed to get freddie gray medical attention. Porter appealed. In court today his lawyers argued its wrong to compel him to testify. Every time he gets up on the stand, he subjects himself to a perjury charge which carries ten years more. Only if he only, if i understand the law, only if he elects to lie in the upcoming trial. But the park service says it doesnt have 250 million. It wants regional help with the cost. Fixing arlington Memorial Bridge is going to take a coalition of regional partners. They are accused of forcing a 16yearold girl to have sex with men in this hotel in rockville. According to court records, 21yearold savion sharpe and 36yearold Raleigh Mcclam forced a 16yearold girl to work as a prostitute. Trafficking charges as well as sexual abuse of a minor. Sharpe also faces a gun charge. The victim says sharpe displayed a handgun on several occasions. Mcclam told Court Officials he works for Prince Georges County schools as a School Bus Driver. Thats part of the investigation, but at this time there is no connection, no known connection between the victim and either of the suspects occupations. Reporter the girl called police from the bathroom of this hotel room in rockville after one of the men she was forced to have sex with threatened her with a knife. Police say that 16yearold victim is now being cared for. I would not be surprised to see more of this taken down but well wait and see. Still a winter storm warning down for parts of the northern neck. I dont see that happening either. This is just not a very big storm at all. Storm team4 radar showing the snow around the area. Again, does show some rain but its all snow coming down around warrenton, culpeper where it is starting to accumulate on some of the grassy services, some of the decks, the rooftops, the cars. Thats what well continue to see. The wider view shows how disorganized this storm system is. We have one storm making its way towards us from the west. Watch the snow here. Normally this would move our way. Here is this other area of low pressure. By around 11 30 tonight we see the snow in our area, but here comes this area of low pressure, and all of the Energy Transfers off the coast. Now, we need that to happen for our big snows because then those storms move up the coast and wrap in all that moisture. Thats not going to happen this time. This one will take over all the energy. Look at the showers, the heavy, heavy rain, the heavy snow right along the border here, but then that system quickly moves out to sea and we are left with nothing across our area. So essentially this storm steals any moisture, any energy that we have. So here we are tonight at 9 00. Notice we have the snow around the area. Around 100 by 2 00, 3 00 in the morning most of it is gone except for the southern portion of the storm. Thats where the storm is really taking shape here. So by 7 00 a. M. Tomorrow we have some snow showers but most of the area not seeing much at all. So how much snow are we going to see in again, this is on the low side. 1 to 2 inches, but think more of an inch. I have got a coating in most locations, especially around the d. C. Metro. If that storm takes shape soon enough, maybe one to two or more down to the south, but tomorrow morning some of you will wake up with almost no snow on the ground. So dont expect it. Reporter well, it appears, doreen, the family was thrown off by the funeral makeup and the lighting. As it turns out, the body of virginia gray is right here at the horton funeral home where this all began. Youre convinced this is your grandmother . Yes, i am, and we all are. Reporter and so now so now we can move forward and have closure and get a funeral going. Reporter this evening the grandchildren of virginia gray made another visit to the horton funeral home. This time they identified the woman in the casket as their the funeral makeup. This time they went with her personal doctor. The physician determined that it is my grandmother. We had them to strip her down of all her makeup and put her in her natural as much as her Natural Light as possible. Reporter virginia gray was 83 years old. On february 19th, she became unconscious. She was taken by ambulance to the prince georges hospital. She died a short time later. Her grandchildren arranged for the horton funeral home to prepare miss grays body, but when the grandchildren came to the viewing last week, they said the body in theasket wasnt their grandmother. Now after a second look with ms. Grays personal doctor on the scene, the gray family says it can have closure. So now the viewing, and they can do it with peace of mind. Chris and doreen . Kind of a painful situation for everybody involved. Hey, pat, just a quick question here. Are they angry with the undertaker or do they feel like, well, the undertaker was just trying to do a good job and make her look as nice as possible. Eporter theyre not angry with the funeral home at all. They feel like they were sort of mislead by the makeup and the lighting and maybe the grief from her death, and then when they managed to strip the makeup down and the doctor came in and showed them the scar she had, surgical scars that apparently had been made up as well, they realized that, indeed, that was their grandmother. I think theyre happy to have closure. Its been a just a terrible week, emotional week for the family. Theyre happy to have closure and now they can have a proper funeral and move on. All right. Reporter the bill being considered as lawmakers and advocates are trying to protect children like in the case of Deonte Carraway now charged with videoing and sexually abusing kids inside a Prince Georges County elementary school. She allegedly killed her kids two days after being released from the hospital following a and herself. Now lawmakers have introduced legislation to close a loophole in maryland law to require Health Care Providers and others to report these types of serious threats to social services and for them to investigate within 24 hours. We took care of the mother in that instance, got her the Mental Health treatment she needed and forgot to go home and make sure her children were also safe. Reporter the bill treats threats the same as actual harm of a child. In the case of sonya spoon that intervention may have resulted in the mother or even the children being removed from that home.
