Man accused of posing as a Police Officer and preying on prostitutes. Today that man was convicted in a case where prosecutors say he actually attacked a woman with a knife. New at 6 00. Pat collins talked with the victim and he joins us from outside the courthouse in rockville, pat . Reporter he pretended to be a john. Then he pretended to be a cop. He ended up stabbing and wounding a prostitute with her own knife. A few minutes ago, by phone, the victim talked about that attack. I fought back with him. I wasnt letting him tie me up i fought back and got ahold of my knife. And he shoved me into the share and the knife went into my side. Reporter we call her monica, shes a 22yearold prostitute. For obvious reasons were concealing her identity. She was stabbed and wounded in this hotel room by a man posing as a cop. That man, 38yearold larry steele convicted today of that assault. Monica was in court for that. When you saw him in court, what was that like today . Reporter i couldnt really look at him. You know, i tried my hardest not to look his way because it was just bringing back memories. Like flash backs. I tried not to look at him. Reporter the scene the Radisson Hotel in rockville, police say steele posed as a john, then a cop and then came the assault. He said he was a cop . Reporter he said he wanted to arrest you . Correct. Reporter but you think he had other intentions . Yes. I didnt see any reason why he would want to tie me up with, you know, sheets and pillowcases. Reporter larry steele has 11 aliases. Police say he has a criminal history that includes distributing drugs on school property. Distribution of heroin. Receiving stolen property. Forgery, robbery and frequenting a baudy house. Right where Rock Creek Parkway becomes beach drive, by the connecticut avenue exit. And despite the 911 caller giving the operator that exact location, the operator was unsure and delayed six minutes before she sent help. The first 11 in at 6 05 p. M. Fire and medical units werent dispatched until 6 11 because the 911 operator was unsure of the location. I think it took some time to figure out exactly where this incident was occurring. Again, we had multiple addresses. We had multiple locations. Reporter district officials would not release the 911 tape but did allow news 4 to listen to it. The caller can be heard clearly describing the location as Rock Creek Parkway just after the connecticut avenue exit. The 911 operator insists on either an intersection or a street address. This is a very important issue. Were going to be looking at this, obviously. Reporter the d. C. Office of unified communications hopes to have Better Technology by next year. That would enable 911 operators to pinpoint the location of every 911 call. When next generation 911 comes, well be tell where you are in a building by a cell phone call.
