Hes recorded ten albums and been nominated for 16 grammys. His hits include back to one, one last cry and any time. This weekend hes playing the strasmore and is hes with us. You actually had your first recording at 19 years old. Yeah, my fist album i recorded when i was i sent my demos out to all the Record Companies and they asked whos singing the songs. Im like thats me. Whos writing the songs, thats me. Whos producing the songs, thats me. Do you want a record deal . Okay. Where did you grow up . I grew up in buffalo, new york, and part of the time in orlando, florida. Is your family musical . Church. We sang in church, my entire family. Our family reunions are concerts basically and im the designated piano player. It sounds like you can play a whole lot of things. You play nine instruments. Piano, guitar, base, trumpet. I was one of those kids that if you gave me a toy that was unbreakable, id figure out how to break it. Music was something i wanted to do. You can play the tuba. Well, the brass winds except for the trauma much. Whats your favorite to play . The bass guitar. The guy in my band was the ugliest one of the four of us but all the girls would like him most. You collaborated with a lot of great talents. What was that like and what were you doing . Its always amazing when you work with people that you respect and people that have the same musical acumen that you do. Its great when you call or they call you and they want to work with you as well so its been fun. You were on season seven with donald trump in the apprentice. That must have been quite an experience. I think people ask that because they think i know him. You spend about five seconds with him every day when youre on the show. He seems to know who you are but he doesnt really because somebody is telling him in his ear what it is. But we see what hes doing. Hes a businessman, hes selling himself the best way he knows how. Was that fun . It was a means to an end. I dont really like reality tv like that, but at the time it was such a great opportunity. You look at the ratings of the show, either i do that or i dont and thats how it works. You have one night at the strathmore . One night. Tomorrow . Tomorrow night at 8 00 p. M. Theres so many songs that ive written that people have said our children sing your songs, we walked down the aisle or i got over a breakup with your songs. Are there any tickets left . Theres a few. If you want to see brian mcknight, you better call up soon to get those tickets. One night only. Thanks so much, brian, for being with us. Thanks, barbara. Up next, amelia tells us why these clouds, not such a bad thing. And weve got a surprise for i for you. Man you have a surprise for me . Narrator at dominion, 1 in 5 new hires is a veteran. And when theyre away, they miss out on a lot. But they wont miss out on financial support. Because we cover any difference between their military pay and their dominion salary, and continue benefits for them and their families. Why do we do it . Because our vets sacrifice enough. Dominion. Depend on us for more than energy. Stand by me. Im eun yang. Sunday is National Ice Cream day. Not that we need any reason to eat ice cream but with this heat wave in full effect, ice cream may be t the relief. Theres so many ways to eat ice cream, not just out of the carton, which is the way that i like to eat it. Joining us to show us some fun ice cream desserts is meredith. Thanks for joining us. Great to see you as always. Theres always room for ice cream, no matter how full you are. It slides in there, right . Exactly. And you have a makeathome recipe. So what are the ingredients you need to make sure this works at home, though . Right. You want to make sure you have an ice cream maker. Essentially the way that were going to do this is how we do it at the store. Were going to make a base which will include some milk. Whole milk . Yeah. You can do it with other skim milk or whatever. For texture. Exactly. So weve got heavy cream, milk and you need both . Milk and heavy cream . Yes, you do. Its all about the water content that you dont want your ice crystals in the f to be too big. You want them to be really small. And then you put some sugar in there. Sugar and then a little bit of salt. All you would do is mix this together and put it on your stove over medium heat and bring it to a simmer. Not a boil. Not a boil, just a simmer. So watch it pretty carefully. Youre going to want to watch it, exactly. Once it comes to a simmer, then temper it into your egg yoklks. What does that mean . You want to mix it slowly and not all at once or youre going to get scrambled eggs. Just the egg yolk schlyolk. Yes. Were looking for the fatty part of the egg, thats the yummy part of the egg. For sure. At this point you would put all of this back on the stove and youre going to grab your wooden spoon. This is my grandmothers. Is it really . It is. Its my good luck charm. Thats very special. I love it. And then you would essentially mix this. Thickens and essentially you can run your finger across it and you would leave a line on the spin. Even before you put it in the machine. Exactly. At that point since were making a sour cream ice cream, were going to mix this over our sour cream. Does it need to cool first or no . No. Youre going to do this when it would be warm. Well just emulsify this together. Once this comes together, youre going to stick this into a refrigerator or over an ice bath to get it to chill really, really quickly. At that point you would then put it into your ice cream maker. So this one is the one i have at home. Its only 80. This is not an expensive piece of equipment. Kitchenaid also makes an attachment that you could use. So those are two really cheap easy things, ways to make ice cream at home. Youve got some other favorites that you can make desserts using ice cream. Its great on its own and you make your own hot fudge. What else do you like with your ice cream . So we have chocolate float which is our cold brewed chocolate which is a drink that we make. We add some simple syrup, a little soda water and put Vanilla Ice Cream in there. We also make really lovely ice cream sta cream sandwiches. You pick your ice cream and your cookie and have at it. This is the dessert i like doing at home. Essentially its a grilled pound cake with some winesoaked peaches. Today i was going to put on some sour cream sorghum ice cream which is one of my absolute faves. Ive never heard of that. Ill going to have to try that for sure. Sorghum, flavorwise its a cross between maple and molasses. Its really found mostly in the south. Its a syrupy kind of consistency. It lends a little bit of smokiness to that. So for me when im doing desserts at home, i want to play with temperature and texture and this dessert really kind of its meredith, thanks for joining us. Thank you. Enjoy your ice cream. And i want some of that. It looks so good. Ice cream, of course, on a day like this is going to be something were all going to want. Yeah, not too bad out there. Its not as hot as it was yesterday, but certainly an ice cream friendly kind of day. Highs in the low 90s. Heres how well warm up hour by hour as we head on into the afternoon hours. I know youre noticing a lot of cloudiness right now. Those clouds break up somewhat not afternoon hours, a mix of clouds and sunshine. Future weather, im jumping ahead to tomorrow morning at 8 00 a. M. We start off the day dry with plenty of sunshine. Here we are at 1 00 p. M. , some widely scattered showers and maybe a few isolated thunderstorms are possible. Notice 5 00 p. M. Its only about 30 . So your weekend outlook, exercise. Hot as it should be for this time of year. It looks like the better pool day will be sunday. We dont have that threat of rain around later in the day on sunday. Yard work, do so early in the morning, beat the heat. And eating outdoors, again, theres a chance youre dealing with a little larain later in t day tomorrow. Tomorrow high of 91, partly to mostly cloudy skies. Some scattered afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are possible. On sunday a high of 92. Monday its hot and its humid. 97 for a high on monday. After that notice every single day were in the 90s. A long heat wave to look forward to, ladies. All right, thanks, amelia. Yesterday we told you about the new food coming to fedex today were going to taste one of those new items. Why the h dog isot only a few hours left until the deadline. The redskins have until 4 00 this afternoon to sign quarterback kirk cousins to a longterm contract. Even if they dont, hell be calling the plays this coming year making almost 20 million with the franchise tag. However, thats only a oneyear deal. Several reports have been saying arent even close and they havent been for months. Well, you cant go to a ball game and not have a hot dog, right . Absolute pleasure being here. We talked the other day about the big contest between all the new foods, what was the best. How did the dog do . The dog did great. We came up with four very unique flavors for the redskins. The hog dog came out the winner. Our hog dog is something a little bit unique. Its got bacon in it, its got pulled pork in it. Its got a bit of ham in it and sausage in it. We mixed it all together and came up with a hog dog. So it includes every piece of it. I think because you see buns here that you normally serve it could you eat it with baked beans . I like it by itself because it tastes that good. The bun is something we add to it. If you have a gluten issue, you can eat it without it. Fattening is it . We wont talk about that. Its a hot dog. Lets talk a little bit about the best condiments for hot dogs. What would you say . Ive got to tell you, with our hot dogs, i eat our hot dogs plain. I like them plain because i think they have got amazing taste. Weve mixed all those great flavors inside of it. But id stick with the real simple mustard on this hot dog. And you like grilling your hot dogs. I see that youve got some on the grill here. These on the grill look a lot fatter and bigger. Are they the same . Theyre the same hotting today. We leave the casing on our hot dogs. It keeps all the flavor and juices inside the hot dogs so theres no dry hot dogs, nothing falling out of them. I like the casing, thats what makes them so crisp, right. A little snap to it. Off the grill. I like to have them right off the grill, a little bit of mustard, throw them on the game and enjoy the game. Lets see how you would set one up for us. Im going to ask erika to come over here. Im coming. Oeng, im coming. You can join me here. Heres the beauty about a hot dog. All youre doing is putting it in a bun. Its a sicmple, simple concept. Do you like mustard . I do. I like everything. But you said that you this is the way you should you recommend is it just mustard . At least taste it with just mustard. Ill pass it over. All right, girl, go for it. The hog dog. This is a fan chosen dog. Mmhmm. Its good. Mmhmm. Its crisp and snaps in your mouth when you bite into it . I guess thats what youre supposed to ask for. Do you want the relish and all of the other stuff. No, it really is good. She likes relish and onions. You can taste the dice. Fferen these are all natural hot dogs as well. Can you only get this at fedex field . These hot dogs are only at fedex field. So the hog dog wont be on sale at our nearby grocery store. Hopefully in the future, but right now its proprietary to the washington redskins. In the future we have some other products that we sell in the stores that are very similar but not quite the same thing. What do you say . I like it, i honestly do. You can taste the difference, you really can. Then i guess im going to have one. I think you should. Maybe ill just eat it plain. Fantastic. Thank you so much. Were so glad to have you with us. Leave these because i know people will be lining up wanting one of these. Coming up and now that were talking about hot dogs, what about your fitness tracker, whether or not its accurate.
