Well, today, thousands of people are expected to attend the justice or else rally in the district. The rally is part of the 20th remembrance anniversary of the million man march. You can see the capitol dome in the background. Take a look, though, as we go by the capitol reflecting pool. You can see state flags, other flags here. Folks began arriving here before sunrise for this justice or else match. It is the 20th anniversary of the first million man march. And there are a lot of folks who were not here for that when they felt like they had to be here this time around. I want to see us sticking together more, supporting our businesses more. Thats what i want to see. We have to be here no matter what. No matter of your color or race. Were still human. Everybody has a responsibility afterwards within they leave here for what theyre doing to be doing in their communities. We will see. Downing said the shooter was firing at people who were just laying there. He added that after the shooter was hit by police gunfire, he laid down and shot himself in the head. Its been 22 days since anyone has seen 80yearold lubin phipps. His family want tos make sure people are still looking for him. He went missing at a Prince Georges County park in september. Darcy spencer went back to that park and spoke to his daughter. That somebody, oh, god will call the authorities so that we can reunite him with his family, god. Reporter a group of family and friends gather for a prayer and candlelight vigil. Their numbers are small but their hope is strong that their loved one, 80yearold lubin phipps, will be found safe. Its been three weeks and, you know, were just trying to stay positive. Reporter mr. Phipps daughter says her dad suffers from dementia. He went missing from watkins Regional Park on september 18th, under an assisted living center. He was here at the park at picnic area zero. They were having a picnic for Senior Citizens that day. At one point he asked if he could use the bathroom. He walked away and simply vanished. His daughter says she doesnt know if her father made it to the bathroom. She says mr. Phipps is a resident of woodmore house are keeping up their search, every day, in the park and surrounding areas. Using flyers and social media. For the first time ever, doctors in sierra leone will have access to medical equipment that will help them save lives. A few days ago volunteers at brothers brother in fairfax packed a truck lot of instruments and other items. The machines were donated by a Suburban Hospital in bethesda. They can do the lab system rather than sending the lab work out of the country for results. With this machine, the results will actually be available within two hours. The group is hoping the supplies arrive in west africa by next month. A local company helped a dream come true this week for an arizona teen living with some health issues. Eric hans became an honorary anchor and designed his own tshirt at fairfaxbased custom inc. Then they took off for the companys Production Facility in charlottesville to print his shirt in person. They have it all, all of it donated. The Department Hopes it will inspire both women and men to get a breast exam. Youll see the cruiser in virginia through october. One of the many landmarks across the country pinking it up for Breast Cancer awareness month. Early detection gives women the best chance of battling the disease. David, a maryland woman is trying to inspire others by using her talents to help those in need. Laura reed is a hairdresser who spends her free time helping the homeless. As Melissa Mollet reports, her actions are really having a lasting impact. Reporter today, just a typical day off for hairstylist laura reed. I have a trade and im lucky to be able to have that, to give back to people that are in need. Reporter laura spends her c free time working here at the wilkins avenue womens Assessment Center in rockville. Its a shelter with 65 beds run by interfaith works and filled with dozens of grateful ladies. She was talking to me, asking me, what is your story. I want to know your story. Reporter laura comes to the center once a week. Shes given hundreds of haircuts on the streets, too. My purpose is to give back to people. Reporter laura says she knows some of their pain. There is no catch. I want to be able to uplift that person. Reporter she can recognize it in their eyes. I know what its like to live out of a paper bag. I lived out of a paper bag with my name on it for a few years. I was transferred to different homes when i was young in my life, a teenager, and i know what its like to be at the bottom of the barrel. And to hate yourself and to hate the world and to not have hope. Reporter laura doesnt want money. She wants a smile. I feel like a million bucks when shes finished. I want to go show off my hair. Its important to me to be able to watch someone that hasnt been spoken to in a week when i come up and say i want to do something nice for you today. They look at you like, why are you talking to me. Reporter the centers director knows what laura does is far beyond a free haircut. This really helps our ladies who are going through a difficult time rebuild some of their selfesteem. Its a really important service. Because when youre here and looking for employment and traying to save your money, time for a haircut or paying for a haircut is really a luxury.
