New information just in after a fire early this morning on Settlers Landing way in potomac, maryland. Montgomery county firefighters say an electrical problem started that fire in the basement. The family was home at the time, firefighters say working smoke alarms alerted them. One man is being treated for smoke inhalation and possible burns. There is significant damage to that home. It could be another long day of jury selection in baltimore. Officer William Porter is on trial. Hes the first of Six Baltimore Police officers to be tried in the death of freddie gray. In court yesterday, judge Barry Williams asked potential jurors if anyone had not heard about the case. He dismissed some of them. 75 new potential jurors will be in court this morning. In the day ahead, a Prince Georges CountyPolice Officer will go on trial for putting his gun to a citizens head. Santiago faces a list of charges from that may 2014 incident. Police say he approached two men in a car in bowie parked outside a home. When the homeowner got out of the car and started to walk toward the house, officer santiago blocked him. Developing this morning, brandnew information about a plane crash that killed 162 people. The ntsb said today the pilots were at fault for the air asia flight that crashed into the java sea last year. According to investigators, the flight deck computer had a cracked joint that caused it to stop working. The way the pilots responded to the problem then sent the plane out of control. Air asia put out a statement this morning saying, quote, there are many lessons to be learned for the entire Aviation Industry. And that the airline is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in the industry. Today marks 60 years since rosa parks led the Montgomery City bus boycott. From rain to snow now, big snowstorm is headed toward the midwest. Look at some of the video here. In kansas, six people died on icy roads this past weekend. A new Development Today in a fight over megagas stations in part of our area. Montgomery county leaders voting today to prevent those stations from being built too close to homes or schools. Kristin wright is live to explain. This has been a long, long fight in Montgomery County going back for years. And today there is an important vote happening that could really change things. A group of Kensington Heights residents doesnt want the gas station here at the Westfield Wheaton mall. They say there are just health hazards. So here is what they say. It shouldnt be near hospitals. Not near schools. And not near homes. The proposal is to build the 16 pump costco gas station on the property of the Westfield Wheaton mall. Of course, there is lots of opposition to this. Costco said they will, in fact, meet state requirements to make it go forward. Now, back in may, the Montgomery County board of appeals denied a petition to build the gas station. Costco appealed. Today, the Montgomery County council will vote on zoning amendment that would make it easier for the plan to move forward by expanding the list of places where the megagas stations can be. Woman is fed up with rising crime in the capitol hill area. Advisory neighborhood commissioner denise creps serves the hill east area. She wants to know if there is more crime because people who are arrested are being let back on the streets. That information, though, from the department of justice comes at a price. 40 an hour for what could be hundreds of hours of research. Crep and capitol hill residents plan to raise the money through a bake sale at Eastern Market in the near future. Three men are facing charges accused of stealing fro Storage Units in rockville. Rockville police say steven davis, Timothy Harris and terrence mcclaire broke into south storage plus last week. They stole somewhere between 1 and 10,000 worth of merchandise inside. Thats according to police. Police also say the men stole a box truck. Two of the men were released on bail. The other is still in jail on a 15,000 bond. A plan to add tolls to i66 inside the beltway is headed for a showdown vote this week. Inside nova reporting the Transportation Commission is expected to vote on thursday. It will decide whether to move forward on a plan that would lay out how money raised from tolls would be spent. This could be the last procedural vote before the commonwealth transportation board has the final say next week. 6 19 now, Charter Bus Company is apologizing after stranding more than 60 passengers in the cold for seven hours. The megabus blew a tire. Another bus came to pick up the passengers, not until 10 00 the next morning. Very cold. A lot of people with medical conditions. One of the women on board is pregnant. Megabus released a statement apologizing and says all passengers will receive refunds for their travel. High schoolers in minh behind are considering banning redskins gear from their school. A Student Advisory Team in st. Paul is expected to recommend changing their schools dress code to ban gear that can be considered racist. It was put in place after the native American Student Council said redskins gear offended them. It will start to look like christmas later today at union station.
