Reporter the worst Case Scenario here would be that the bridge would have to be closed to traffic completely. Weve known that the Memorial Bridge has been in bad shape for a while. Steel supports on the underside of the bridge have eroded to the point where theyr going across. We already have lane closures on the bridge as well as Weight Restrictions. And now comes word that if a Major Overhaul isnt done and done to the tune of 250 million, that in five years, the Memorial Bridge would have to be closed to traffic. So shut down completely only used for pedestrian traffic which needless to say that would be a major, major rob for commuters. Now the reconstruction again 250 million, but the park service says that they dont have the monday to do that sort of thing. In fact they say the lack of money has gotten us into this mess in the first place, that maintenance on the bridge as well as other road projects has been deferred for years because of funding issues and thats why we find ourselves in this predicament. Now, 68,000 vehicles use the Memorial Bridge every single day. You can only imagine the impact that we would see during the rush hour commute if they actually did have bridge completely to traffic. The park service scrambling to find the money to do the repairs. Back to you. Today the case of Six Baltimore Police officers charged in freddie grays death will go before the Maryland Court of appeals. The central issue is whether officer William Porter can be forced to testify against his fellow officers. Gray suffered a severe spinal injury while in Police Custody and later died. Porter says a judge violated his rights by ordering him to testify in two other trials. His lawyers want that decision reversed. The court could issue a ruling as soon as this afternoon or it could take months. The trials for all of the officers are hold until a decision is reached. Fairfax county police are thankful this morning that no officers were injured after a man shot at them. Homeowners hid in their basements during a Police Standoff in franconia on wednesday. Police say 19yearold syed javid fired shots at officers on larkspur drive. Officers fired bean bag projectiles back at javid and he was eventually taken down by a police dog. The county police chief says the confrontation was similar to what happened in Prince William county. Police say they were called to the home after an argument between javid and his father. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No one else was hurt. Today another step in an effort to protect students in Prince Georges County public schools. The Student Safety Task force will meet today to continue discussing School Safety as Security Policies and procedures. That task force was set up after former school aid Deonte Carraway was charged with sexually abusing students and making child pornography. The task force will begin proposing policy change this is may. Also today the Prince Georges County states attorney will take her support of mandatory reporting to the state capitol. She will testify in support of house bill 825, it requires anybody who works with children in a professional capacity for the state to report abuse or neglect to authorities. The bill also includes reporting verbal threats of harm or death to a child by a parent or guardian. The deaths of two Prince Georges County children at the hands of their mother inspired the law. And today the Maryland Legislature will also debate whether to give terminally ill patients the right tody wh dd d when to die. The death with dignity act would allow doctors to prescribe a deadly dose of medication to patients expected to die within six months.
