A vinton man is behind bars following a child abuse investigation. 21year old Preston Chewning has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding. Abuse and neglect of a child. And child endangerment. Hes being held without bond. The charges stem from an incident last week. When emergency crews responded to a call about an 11 month old hurt the child was taken to the hospital. Where it was later found to have multiple fractures and internal injuries. A 15year old on the run for more than two months is arrested. The minor now faces a series of charges. Including reckless driving and felony eluding. Police say it started december 5th. When he walked away from a minimum security facility. Officers were still searching for him last wednesday when he sped past a trooper on route 220. Virginia state police say the teen refused to pull over and lead them on a chase. Until the car crashed. The cars four passengers were hurt during the accident. But the driver took off on foot. He was arrested tuesday. And is being held without bond. Efforts to keep kids off of drugs continue in Roanoke County. Roanoke county schools is pursuing the plan to lower Substance Abuse amongst students. By randomly drug testing those involved in extracurricular activities. A jury trial is set for former Bedford Police officer Brian Mcalexander who is facing child pornography charges. The trail is set for august 23 in Bedford County circuit court. An attorney advisement was set for today but mcalexander already found an attorney. A Bedford County grand jury indicted the 54 year old on six felonies. Mcalexander served in the Bedford Police department for more than 25 years. He was promoted before he resigned over the investigation.
