But we have been given very Little Information from them on the shootings they are investigating. Despite hearing from very vocal neighbors, hoping this isnt a trend. As crime scene tape was unraveled in west charlotte, officers were breaking it out across town on the east side and seeing it all unfold left some neighbors feeling hopeless for safety. I dont know. Dont have to pay this way. Others were so scared, they didnt want to show their face when venting about their concerns. We hear a lot of shootings. We didnt think nothing of it. The hour apart. One person shot outside this gas station off brookshire boulevard and another victim injured at his home less than a mile away. He drove there after bullets the shooting, shattering the glass and cutting him badly. The scene on mcginn grove drive. His grandfather once owned the land where officers stood tonight. We lost a lot of sleep over it, ill tell you that. The second scene was off the plaza at this Shopping Center where neighbors were told a man and a woman were shot in a car. They dont know what led up to it and they say it doesnt matter. They just want this violence to stop. I dont know whats going on. The same that it used to be. So we have three shootings so far, but were told that only one person has been detained and thats in connection to the shooting off the brookshire in west charlotte earlier today. Weve asked police if these shootings are connected in any way at all. We are waiting for an answer tonight. Live at cmpd headquarters, channel 9 Eyewitness News. All right, thank you. And cruz spent a fair amount of time attacking donald trump saying he is the only candidate who can and will beat him. God bless the great state of North Carolina. That was ted cruzs opening message to enthusiastic crowd of supporters. It was the senators second stop in North Carolina after time forced him to cancel a rally in raleigh. With every state, his campaign is closing the gap on donald trump. Today calling the front runner a liberal who has been funding washington for decades and lose to Hillary Clinton. Hillary beats trump and cruzs message centered on jobs, religious freedom, and security. I will fight with every breath in my body to stop obama care, to stop amnesty. To stop the debt. To defend our religious liberty, to defend the bill of rights. To bring back jobs. The crowd was often loudest when cruz spoke getting back to the principles that built america. She will speak at the high school. That event starts just before 6 00. Tomorrow, we expect to learn more about an arrest in a murder case of a pregnant teenager. Nearly four years ago. 17yearold was found shot to death in elder park. Police now arresting 26year old, darnay brown today accusing him of killing that mother and unborn child. Gabadon was two months pregnant and emails show that she thought brown could be the father. New at 11 00, police are investigating a crash where a vehicle landed upside down in huntersville. Take a look. The Fire Department tweeted out this picture of that wreck around 8 00. It happened on old statesville road. Right now were working to find out if anyone was hurt. Together tonight trying to remember a mother of two young boys who was killed in a crash along highway 150. Dozens of people gathered at the Baptist Church this evening to honor candace helms. She died in that accident. Her seven and twoyearold sons remain in the hospital tonight. Friends say helms was active within the community and they are praying for her family tonight. She meant a lot to the community. She volunteered at the school as well. And i think a lot of people just want to share their love and return. That crash happened this morning along highway 150 near old mill road. Troopers say that helms was taking one of her sons to school when she was hit head on by a pickup truck. The driver, david boyd, is now charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. New at 11 00, a grand jury indicted a man of shooting two people outside of a mcdonalds in hickory. The deaths of hachelle. A previous relationship with layle. Brevard police are looking for a teenage girl who was reported missing today. We first brought you this amber alert as breaking news earlier at 6 00 and now we have her picture. 15yearold, dixie bailey is 54, weighs 114pounds. She has blue eyes and brown hair with orange streaks. Police say that she was last seen wearing a peach colored pullover, black tights, and cowboy boots. Tonight, the chief says the officers seen punching a suspect in this video while he was on the ground and cell phone video did not break the law. Tonight, when he saw the video last week showing the officer punching malcolm eel yours elliot in the back, he knew he would lose sleep over it. He decided not to press any charges against the officers. Reviewed everything and no laws were violated. The use of force was not unreasonable. They would not release the body camera video because its part of an internal investigation. Tonight, the davidson board of commissioners passed a resolution asking the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Leaders to guarantee every student a seat in their neighborhood schools. All this comes as Student Assignment is creating a lack of stability and predictability for some parents and citizens in mecklenburg county. Many parents believe wherever you live is where your child should go to school. Leaders in huntersville, cornelius, and lake norman are on board with the same idea. Both huntersville and cornelius passed the resolution last night. Lake normans chamber of commerce sent a letter to the Charlotte School board. They will address the proposed resolutions at their meeting on thursday. There have been major changes at the Police Department just days after the take over the chiefs job. Chesterfield sheriff has already obtained shut down the jail and tossed out their rule book, which he calls ancient. Brooks was asked to step in when chief larry brown returned to the job last week. Brown had been under an investigation and on leave for four months. State Health Leaders say hundreds of local families can now drink from their own faucet again. Apparently, my water was unsafe yesterday and my water is safe today. Why neighbors living near duke coal ash ponds say this is not enough to ease their concerns. In the past three hours, this was the third shooting and charlotte today. Earlier this afternoon, officers say they found a person shot outside of the gas station along brookshire boulevard. Another victim was found at his home just minutes away from that gas station. Police say he drove there after bullets were fired into his car and shattered glass cutting him badly. The second scene was at a Shopping Center in the plaza. Neighbors say a man and woman were shot in the car. Were asking if all of these cases are connected. After more than a year of using bottled water to cook and drink, state Health Officials now say that families in gaston and rowan counties can now use the water from their wells. The North Carolina department of health and Human Services announce they are rescinding their do not drink recommendation for chromium. This was found near wells by coal ash ponds. Now they say all the levels are safe in the water. One woman told us she is still very concerned. You would tell me a year ago that my water was unsafe and then today tell me that my water is safe to use. It is an insult that you would now expect me to erase this past year. Duke says it will continue to give bottled water to all those families as they sort through this new information. The company has long argued cole ash ponds have not contaminated any local wells. Theres no indication that ash basins influenced their well water. That water has not been impacted by those facilities. We have been following concerns for more than a year. Nearly 300 families have been relying on bottled water while the state has been investigating this. Residents will be getting letters with a phone number to call with any questions. A group of lawmakers could be meeting this week to start drafting legislation to try to stop charlottes controversial nondediscrimination ordinance. The head of the senate is matthew senator is part of that group and so is lake normans jeff, who says there are still some questions about what any legislation would target. Does it say purely on the bathroom issue or do we step on a broader look at the entirety of the ordinance . The House Speaker says he has a group ready to meet with legislators as soon as lawmakers go back into session. A teacher who was accused of having sex with a student will not spend a day in jail. Deferred prosecution means tika will spend a year and a half on probation and she has to give up her teaching license. She was accused of having sex with an 18yearold she met at south point middle school. If he couldnt convince the jury members that the sexual contact happened before graduation, there was a chance that he could go back to teaching. New developments, the south way for a bill banning abortion past 19 weeks. Exceptions only if the mothers life is in jeopardy. A final vote in the house would send it to the governors desk. I think the drive along up and down i77, rock hill, up into charlotte is where the travel will be most difficult in parts of york county and clover as well. Lancaster, also and chester, some of those spots. Visibility does not improve by the 7 00 hour. And 8 00 is still foggy around town. Areas up to the north, it looks like its going to be a better go for you. Along highway 64, looks fine. But theres going to be the threat for fog in the morning time and you might start out cloudy after that, but more sunshine will be working its way through. I think its going to be highs will be near 80 degrees. I dont think anywhere in charlotte is going to hit 80, but were going to get close. In South Carolina, thats where you have that opportunity. I think whats going to stop us in the long run will be more clouds coming in. Especially by thursday and then friday will be totally cloudy. So, our records are in the 80s. So, nothing on that part. Sergeant terri neil told were training at the armory near the intersection of gold and fiver in Kings Mountain on sunday. He says they heard a girl screaming and trying to fight off a teenager who was grabbing her inappropriately. Soldiers say they searched and then held 19yearold kyle moore until police arrived. He wasnt denying anything. He just could not fight the urge. It sers not the first time it happened. Sergeant neil says the victim did not know her attacker. Moore is now in jail with a 100,000 bond due back in court on march 16. Charlotte mecklenburg schools talked about the districts Capital Needs at a work session this afternoon.
