Let s get right to chief meteorologist Patrick Rockey with more on what we can expect. After our wintry weekend, the work week is going to look and feel a lot more springlike. Even our cool downs won t be that cool. A cold front will approach the region on tuesday. Ahead of that front southwest winds will warm us up into the upper 50s and the lower 60s. We will see increasing clouds and a slight chance for showers, mainly on the outer banks. But as the cold front crosses the region on wednesday, we do expect scattered showers. In fact, some of our northern communities, like the middle peninsula and the Northern Neck may see a little sleet or snow mixed in at the start. We will start the day with temperatures in the mid 40s, falling into the 30s by the afternoon. Some of the wet weather will linger into early on thursday, but most of the day is looking dry with clearing skies and high temperatures back in the mid 40s. But then we start a warming trend. We will climb into the lower 50s on friday, mid 50s on saturday and around 60 on caused thousands of accidents across the state. According to state police most of those crashes happened right here in Hampton Roads. Newschannel 3 s allison mechanic spoke with vdot officials today to see how they can better prepare for the next storm. So allison what did they say . Well barbara les according to vdot the storm isn t quite overp for them yet. They still have a lot of cleaning up to do but they say they did a lot of preparations for the storm and say they best way for the number of accidents to go down is for drivers to stay off the roads. 1 35 25 the storm is not over for us we are still working to clear roads we havent hit yet and clean up slush that is still there. Most of the ice and snow from this weekend s storm may be gone from the roads but for the Virginia Department of transportation their work is far from over. 1 34 04 we will probably be out there tonight working on roads that we havent hit yet lower priority roads and secondary roads. This weekend s storm hit drivers hard causing Virginia State police to a third of those accidents happened solely in Hampton Roads. And vdot says the accidents likely could ve been prevented if drivers were more cautious. 1 34 30 a lot of time our trucks are out there and they are being passed by vehicles. Drivers need to pay attention. Our drivers are out there and we have very few accidents ourselves so the roads are in decent condition. Bill collier with vdot says they prepared the roads well before the storm hit. Vdot says they had access to 25 thousand tons of salt and nearly 10 thousand tons of sand. But that wasn t enough to stop the hundreds of crashes. 1 34 51 whether the pavement is wet or slushy you can still have a problem even though the roads are in Good Condition by our standards. Now vdot is looking to see what they can do on their end before the nextp round of winter weather. 1 36 50 we continually update our procedures 1 37 00 its not that we learned a whole lot of things but that we continually there are number of trucks getting repaired today but many crews and equipment have already been sent up to Northern Virginia to help dig out there. Once the drivers and trucks get back they will be quickly repaired so they can be ready for the next storm. In Virginia Beach im allison mechanic newschannel 3. But he hopes it s not the first step of lawmakers banning them completely. 06;37 as long as i can still do it on my own time then yeah that s fine senator miller tells me he expects the local Government Committee to hear the bill in the next week or two.
