WTMJ Morning Blend October 4, 2016

Conversation. One took kind of like the majority of the evening that i thought i would share with people then were going to ask what you think about it on facebook. Okay. This is something we talked about before in our office. Not a lot on the show before. You have mentioned it on the show a long time ago. A couple years ago. Parents and should you be naked in front of your children . Right. A lot of strong opinions. There are some parents that feel like from the time they canre boys and girls like what age is that . 3, 4, 5 . Yes like preschool i would say for most kids. Then some parents even through high school, and you know older kids will feel comfortable especially like in bra and underwear or boxers for guys feel very comfortable being naked in front of their kids. I love that you have the greatest smirk on your face youre just holding back the biggest 5th grade laugh saying around the house in the bear. I think most people feel like you shouldnt be strutting around the house vacuuming naked. Im talking more like changing in and out of the bathroom. Some people are talking about showering with your kids or taking baths with your kids. I think most parents tend to agree that is something just for really young kids and more a matter of convenience than something. So, there is this Huffington Post article that went viral was a woman named rita temple ton and why she wants her four sons 2, 5, 6 and 9 to see her naked. Even at 9. She felt her boys needed to see real women meaning her body where it wasnt all like airbrushed and magazine. Dimpleless behinds. Breasts that look like cantaloupes. She describes it in this article that way. This is what real women look like before they went out into expectations of what girls bodies looked like. She got the most nasty, hate mail and nasty tweets, accusations that shes sexualizing her boys. Oh, boy. Stuff like that. There isnt a lot of science about this. At what age should parents and there is no rule of thumb . There is no magic number in terms of age. Have you ever asked your doctor or pediatrician or anything . I havent ever asked them. I have talked to my kids about it more openly. One of the questions is is your child comfortable sometimes curiousty is different from their comfort level. You have to be careful about that. Gender definitely matters. If they are opposite sex children people tend to be more conservative or more cautious. Heres what i think the bottom line is it kind of is up to your family. What is your family comfortable with. I have had these conversations with people i have a lot of respect for. With their kids being much older. I think the issue always here too is not the same gender children. Think about changing rooms and no big deal. You are talking opposite sex children. And parents more being naked in front of kids. Yes you have girls they are all naked in front of each other like in college and stuff like that. The one thing experts agree on if you make a big deal about it in either direction thats where it is a problem. Thats when it starts being more there is some shame. I dont think you ever want to shame or embarrass them. Whatever. They did do a study where they found if the parents were naked between 3 and 6 no adverse effect. Another study found that 6 to 11 made them more permissive sexually. I dont know. Comfortable with it. I dont have this experience because i dont have kids. What about your parents . It was only my mom. He was never around since i was 3. Daddy wasnt there. I have no daddy issues at all. He was around, but not in that sense that we would ever be around each other in that concern. Was your mom conservative . Yes because she didnt like the way she looked. She struggled wither she was always embarrassed. But i cant remember at that age. Maybe thats part of it. Maybe kids wont remember if you dont make a big deal out of it. I agree. Think it all gets to that how big of a deal do you make out of it. Heresour soundoff. We want to know what you think i know youre dying to contribute. Is it okay for parents to be naked around their kids. Go to our Facebook Page and tell us what you think. And maybe until what age. Be specific about age. I hope so. We like strong opinions. First up today, why you should go take a hike this sunday, schlitz audubon is celebrating fall with pumpkin bowling, horse drawn wagon rides and live music. Its a great chance to be out in nature with the family. Jim hyatt is the Family Program manager there and he is here with all of the party plans and brought some the cutest little baby snapping turtle. Weve got him in one of our ponds. Keep holding him right there. He is a true infant. You can actually touch them they dont bite until they are 2 or 3yearold. Their bite is probably pretty yeah. Yeah 2 or 3yearsold then they bite then well have to put him back in the pond and get another baby. I never have heard of anybody that has been snapped by a snapping turtle. You do get snapped you might not be able to tell about it. Really it can kill you . No not really. [laughter] we have a big one at the audubon center. I named him emerson because he eats anything after a garbage disposal. He could break a finger. Le really . Look at him reaching. Is he comfortable right now or . None of them want to be held, but i mean snapping turtles . No they are the top predator in their habitat. How do you recognize one . Is it by a shell . I know usually painted turtles have the orange. Right. You can see they have like this sir rated edges on the back edge. Oh, yeah. Is their tail different it seems a little longer. Its a little longer now than it will as they get older it of their body. Okay. I think its interesting that if he is uncomfortable he is kind of extending his neck. I thought they tended to go into their shell. He is a top predator. You figure out a pond, no great blue herron is going to against him, no other turtle certainly no fish. No raccoon. He is top dog. Yeah he is. You could name him boss. Boss . [laughter] yeah name him boss. All right. So they are sort of they are yeah. You have a lot going on this weekend. This is a great weekend to visit the Schlitz Audubon Center specifically on sunday. Guided nature hike, horse drawn wagon rides cider press. You can make your own cider. Were going to have a bunch of different apples well have a cider press there. People can press their own cider and drink it. Kids can make. I have these gourds set up in the shape of pins. These are our pins. Hold it right there. Okay. Im going to bowl. Then you literally just come on in. Ready . Okay. Oh. See. There you go. You did all right. You didnt even need bumpers. Thanks to a medical supervised natural weight loss plan that doesnt use hormones or prescription pills. The plan is called ideal protein and it has a 25 year track record of promoting a fast, effective and permanent weight loss solution. Unbelievable. Christy and dr. Timothy murray from Solstice Health are here to tell us all about this. Unbelievable. You look incredible. Actually now 170 pounds right . Last week i hit the 170 mark. How has your life changed. Looking at you thinking about 170 pounds was it difficult for to you say for example sitting on an airplane . Yeah. I had a lot of challenges. The way people looked at me, traveling, my im a single mom so, being with my son doing things with him was difficult. So, my life has changed dramatically because of this program. Were you always struggling with your weight . Had you been a overweight child . Most of my life i have strugglinged with weight. Struggled with weight. I just learned to cope with it didnt think it was possible to change my life and it is. For you how do you feel about yourself now . How has it changed the way you see yourself . I think thats the most difficult part when you lose so healthier, i feel i have tons of energy. Im doing things that i didnt know i even loved to do. Running, you know being active with my little guy and just the lifestyle change has been the biggest change for me. There uhhuh. How about shopping . That is super fun now. [laughter] yeah. No more online shopping. You know, shopping for special sizes, so thats been fun. Yeah. Thats incredible. How does the because from what i understand, this is safe, effective and you say permanent and no hormones like hcg or any prescription pills. Thats the thing were most passionate about. Making sure we have a program that doesnt contribute to the other things you just mentioned the hormones and pills. We want this to be done naturally and effectively. The biggest thing we do is we focus on pancreatic function. Not tackling the original program which is pancreatic function. When you look at what were consuming 150 to 200 pounds of sugar a year compared to back in the early 1900s it was only 5 pounds. You think about the organ that releases insulin it is hyper functioning. Insulin is fat storage, there is always of these things that compound, Health Issues down the line which create quite honestly about 90 of our primary care Health Issues. Even christy started prediabetic and had high cholesterol. Those are things you see hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes and how often are those being reversed . 100 of the time almost. Thats incredible. It really is. Its nice its a Wellness Program as well. We can take this to companies we can take it to individuals and say were really effecting change. 70 of the population is overweight or obese. When you look at the Health Problems associated with that reduces the bottom line for individuals and companies when you reduce their overall Health Issues. Looking at some of your other clients and some of their before and after pictures i think christys story is so incredible and impressive and the people we are showing now also have lost significant amount of weight even 30, 40, 50 pounds probably dramatically effects someones health. Do you feel there is a benefit to this program being in a Medical Clinic . We think so. Primary care clinic we dont take any insurance so we do primary care as well. As a result of that weve been able to negotiate our own fees with different vendors for instance to do lab testing. We have reduced rates to check a cholesterol it is 2. 84 seconds. You can check all of these things and we give our weight loss patients our wholesale pricing. If they needed a mri it would 4,000 at a hospital. 167 pounds takes a while to lose. How much are women verses men losing per week . Women typically lose 2 to 4 pounds a week. Men lose 4 to 7 simply based on more muscle mass. Christy was losing 4 pounds or more early on. Over the course of the overwprogramit has been 2 poundk its been phenomenal. Do you know how long it has taken you to lose that 170pounds . I thats incredible. She took a month break in the summer. This summer i took a month off and went back on. [laughter] the interesting thing too that i think is visually is what christy has lost would be like me effectively getting on her back and her carrying me around all day. You can imagine right now she wouldnt be able to do that and what pressure that applies on your joints and energy and Overall Health shes done an beautiful. A lot of people worry about how will it affect their face, their neck their body, you look beautiful. Thank you very much. Yeah. I think that appropriate, it clearly your body appropriately was losing it in a way it could sustain you know. Absolutely. I remember the first time meeting her as well in the office i dont know if you remember this or not, she was sitting at the front desk and started crying because the one thing she wanted to do was be on the floor with her son and be able to play more actively with her son. Its just been a life for her and i think her son as well. Good for you. That is so cool. I know you can do this program as a Wellness Program for businesses so you can form a support group at work or with groups. People will want to know more and have an evaluation and right now you have a fall special. There is 100 off the startup fees this is through the end of the month. Through october 31. Yeah were their big accountability partner and we weigh them and measure them and do a body Composition Analysis every week and they are able to choose whatever products they want. Still ahead the art of telling and preserving personal and family stories and try is so important to our health and future generations. Have you saved up for retirement . How to take your money out of those plans. If you already retired or plan welcome back to the Morning Blend. We all know it is wise to sock away money for the day we decide to retire. Lets say you are getting close or already retired . What is the best way to take money out . Well very carefully. Matthew holbrook is the Financial Planning expert with country financial. He is here with how to pull money out of your investments and wh Social Security to go along with it. Great to see you. Good to see you too. Think so much of the focus is on saving money, putting money in the right investments for retirement thats where all of our thoughts are and all of our focus is on that money were going to put away. And a lot of people come in how much money do i need to put away to get to this number . While that is important you are going to put away the money you can afford and what you budget for so that happens along the way. Retirement area its how do i pull that money out. When the market is down are you going to want to pull out those investments probably not . Were going to separate the accumulation phase and the distribution phase. This is what are you doing when have you 25 years getting up to retirement putting money away. The left hand column you are having the bad years fast then you get to the good years at okay. The right hand side when you look at those numbers its the higher returns, but then it goes to low returns at the bottom so you know they are kind of high to low, low to high. When you look at the bottom it is 8 . They equal the same amount. So when people are putting this money away when you start with 100,000 it continues to grow. It doesnt matter when the rate of returns come back because youre going to have what youre going to have once you get to that retirement point. What about the distribution phase . This is when you, when you talk about Portfolio Management you have your iras all of those you are putting money away. The distribution part is then having a good plan about taking the money out. Just, before we get to this why is it so important the how you take the money out . How you pull the money out is one of the most important things that i get people to understand and when i show them this a lot of them dont big of an issue. The reason it is such a big portion is because when you put all of that money away a lot of people put money into the ira, 401 k s, but when you need to draw on that money if the market is down, youre realizing your losses. So say the market is down 20 and you pull 10 out you are down 30 that money can never recover because it is spent and used. And actually the distribution that might be a difficult concept. Okay now lets put up that graph and you can explain this. You kind of look at it and again you have the low rate of returns on the left and you have the high rate of returns on the right. You start low for the first ten years. Ten years of negative 5 , and then you have up 15 . You go 10 bad years, 10 good years. You look at the bottom you dont have much of your portfolio left. You go to the right hand side where are you
