New tonight amtrak trains on the northeast corridor are running on schedule again a day after a train hit a backhoe just outside of philadelphia. More than 30 passengers and the engineer were taken to hospitals after the collision which derailed the train. Now investigate rs are trying to learn why the backhoe was on the rails in the first place. Reporter its still unclear at this hour why that backhoe was on the tracks, but new york senator Chuck Schumer says it may have been clearing debris from the storm that night or was being used for regular maintenance since fewer trains run on sunday mornings. The train was heading from new york to savannah, georgia at about 8 00 a. M. On sunday when it hit a piece of equipment on the tracks. The impact derailed the lead engine of the train which was carrying more than 300 passengers and seven crew members. The People Killed was the equipment operator and u. S. Senator Chuck Schumer said the other was a supervisor and both were amtrak employees. The data recorder and video from the locomotive were recovered and the recorder was sent to the ntsb. Senator schumer says amtrak has a 20step protocol for having equipment on the tracks. Clearly it seems very likely to be human error. Reporter yeah, tony and sarah, it is quite a scene here downtown. Dc and fire still on the scene here at the irs building. We understand the Justice Building also without power at this hour. Dc fire telling us that it seems like a transformer blew in the basement of the irs building causing smoke to pour up into the building. They had to building and since then about two blocks surrounding the irs building shut down. You can see traffic being redirected here by Homeland Security as well as dc police on the scene. Pepco also out here trying to figure out the situation as to what may have started the fire in the irs building but for now the irs building as well as the Justice Building, both of them without power. All right, marina, thank you very much. We turn to virginia now where police are investigating a fiery accident. It happened around 2 30 this afternoon on the dulles toll roid road. Police say a pickup truck crashed into the back of another truck. Both vehicles caught fire. One person was hurt and taken to the hospital with threatening injuries. One person is behind bars after stabbing three people at a lounge last night and tonight police have also recovered a knife possibly connected to the crime. Just a few hours ago, a woman found a knife under her parked car. Now again police say this all started as a scuffle on the dance floor between two people. And when two security guards tried to intervene, the suspect allegedly stabbed both of those guards as well as the other man he was fighting with. Police arrested the 33yearold suspect Philip Harrington last night, but they had not found a weapon. Today investigators returned to the scene. They searched through trash cans and bushes but didnt recover a weapon until a woman knife under her car. She spoke to us but didnt want to be seen on camera. I looked and said what is this silver stuff sitting here. At first i thought it was a part from a car and i said thats a knife and i looked down and i saw kind of like spots of blood on it. Of the three victims we have two who actually have been observed and we expect to be released some part of the early part of the day today. The third victim actually receives more serious wounds. He was actually cut three times. It was an abdomen cut, a lower thigh and somewhere in the upper left portion of his body. That security guards injuries are described as serious and the suspect is facing first Degree Assault as well as other charges.
