The wind is whipping, the snow is falling and its worthy every bit of what is going to be described as a blizzard. Whether or not its historic with the snow levels is yet to be determined, but the storm is getting stronger and heavy snow right now wrapping back around the cape into boston down through hartford, bridgeport and it looks like the way things are shaping up new york is probably going to be spared the heaviest of the snow. However, technically theyre still in this blizzard warning. Everybody you see in red. Let me tell you now the blizzard is not defined by the snow thats falling. The blizzard and the blizzard warning is defined by the wind and the visibility. So if you get sustained wind of 35 really more than 35 Miles Per Hour for a period of more than three hours or so and visibility being reduced down to 1 4mile or lower, then technically by definition you have a blizzard. The winds are really gusting up there right now, 52mile an hour wind gusts for boston, out at nantucket the 59 mileper hour wind gusts and hyannis now gusting to 60 Miles Per Hour. Most of the sustained winds up there are a little bit below the blizzard threshold right now, but this storm is still strengthening. It just began to phase a couple hours ago and that is basically what is going to see this thing really begin to get stronger out there as time goes by overnight tonight. Just so you know, here are our wind gusts, 28 Miles Per Hour in town, close to 40 for gaithersburg, dulles 45mile an hour gusts. The wind advisory has been extended for just about everybody west of the bay, okay . Theres a couple counties down south that are not in this yet, may have to be added to it. The edge on d. C. Tonight Council Member jim graham says he wont resign and is ready to put ethical questions raised to bed for good. Graham spoke out tonight with fox 5 telling us no law was broken, this following an ethics report issued this week, all of this as one of his colleagues is asking the city council take a closer look at grahams actions. Earlier this week an ethics board announced it thought there was evidence Council Member jim graham violated some rules, but at the same time it dismissed the case. Graham has said many times he committed no crime and its time to move on. Council member jim graham wanted to sit down with us tonight to make it clear he has no plans to step down from his ward 1 council seat. Lets be very clear about this because theres no law broken or any suggestion of it. There is no illegal financial interests and nobody has indicated or suggested that theres any crime. Reporter earlier this week the districts ethics board announced it found evidence that graham violated the rules of conduct when he traded a vote on a d. C. Lottery contract for a development contract, something graham denies. I never promised a quid pro quo that i can recall, you know, and some people may have recalled it. Others dont recall it. I dont recall it ever happening, but even if i did, there was no crime. Reporter graham says the ethics board didnt even question him before releasing its reports. But heres our ethics board, you know, doing fact finding without any fact finding process and i think everybody is entitled to basic fairness. Reporter meanwhile late this afternoon Council Member tommy wells sent a letter to Council ChairmanPhil Mendelson requesting he establish an Ad Hoc Committee to look into grahams actions. We really have to deal with this, that this continues to erode the confidence that the citizens have in their elected government to be fair, be above board. Reporter graham fired back at wells and said this was a political move to support the Washington Post which has written several editorials on this ethics issue. Most recently Council Member wells, you know, who has got one eye on the mayoral race and another on the Washington Post endorsement, you know. Theres politics deep in all of this. Penelope soto appeared in court last friday on drug charges. During the hearing the 18year old began giggling. The judge doubled her bail. Very gave him the finger and he gave her she gave him the finger and he gave her 30 days in jail and today she apologized. My behavior was very irrational and i apologize not only to the court and you, but to my family. The judge said soto was a first time offender who admitted to her addiction. He dropped the 30 day sentence and said soto will attend a miami drug treatment program. Earlier they were getting thunder snow and there was a lot of it, too as these thunderstorms were wrapping up around the center of the storm system coming up over long island and they were getting numerous reports here of thunder snow. It was coming down 2 to 3 inches an hour. This will continue to actually increase over the next few hours because the storm up there is still getting stronger and weve been showing you that pretty much the bulls eye here is going to be boston back out to the west and then down through providence and most of central sections of connecticut there where its looking like 18 plus, not quite as bad for new york city. The storm has been a little farther offshore. The heaviest convective snow, the thunder snow, has stayed just east of new york city. So they probably will end up with maybe 6, Something Like that before its said and done. Were windy overnight 20 to 30 gusting to 50. Everybody into this wind advisory now unless youre in Prince William county and youre down towards Stafford County and spotsylvania county. This is the weekend. Its blustery tomorrow at least for the first part of the day. Winds will be gusty, 35, maybe 40 Miles Per Hour, taper off during the afternoon hours. Sunday looks pretty good, a few clouds sunday, 48 degrees there. So if the clouds will hold off till later in the day, it should be real nice.
