Up first tonight, a major shakeup at the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office. The sheriff says seven deputy recruits cheated during training. And now they and a training deputy accused of helping them are out of work. We go live to the Sheriffs Office tonight. Take us through what happened here . Reporter well, the sheriff says that this group of recruits got a copy of the written and oral examine ahead of time. And they almost got away with this. But during the testing, one of the trainers noticed that one of the recruits answers seemed so perfect that it seemed like they got the answers ahead. They need to be fired because they are unethical people. Reporter a heated county sheriff is not mincing words about the recruits he just kicked out of the department. They are not going to work for the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office. Reporter the sheriff says was up to its exam phase of train being. Potential deputies are tested on the basics of Law Enforcement and the agency policy. They are not hard tests. Reporter but one recruit, darrell cook, couldnt resist the easy way. He turned to a current pinellas deputy, eric fiddle, a friend and in a text message exchange, cook asked to, quote, get some of the study material. He said he would give him the actual exam. But he said please do not share or show them, i dont want to be in an i. A. , an internal affairs investigation. Terry says several recruits turned it down, but seven, including cook, accepted it. They and biddle are out of a job. Very hurt by it. Reporter the sheriff says this is the first time its ever happened. And he hopes this is the last. It shows a lack of moral compass. It shows their lack of ethics. They dont need to be working in Law Enforcement. Reporter we contacted biddle and cook and havent heard back. The sheriff also says the stateville to decide whether everyone involved will have to have their Law Enforcement certifications pulled or suspended. I know you will watch that for us. Thank you.
