Opmistic. E wcan beat ts just like we have beaten the others. Reporter floridas Surgeon General said the state is making headway as it fights the virus in the wynwood area near miami, where t vast majority of 42 locally transmitted cases have been. Officials believe they have reduced the spread of zika from about half that size. So weve now had over two weeks where weve not had any additional infections in wynwood. Reporter were told mosquitocontrol efforts fro spraying to empties standing water to use mosquito repellent has been effective. The governor hopes everyone in tampa bay takes note. It you do this, we can control this likes we controlled chikungunya and dengue fever. Theyre not identifying the patient or say where the person lives. They dont believe moss key the are carrying the virus. Floridas Surgeon General explained whats next. The new case that we are our epidemiologist some time to get a good history and to understand potential exposures at home, at the workplace, at other recreational events that may have been outdoors. Reporter and the governor mentioned chikungunya and dengue fever there in the story. The reason he mentioned those is because the state was successful in fighting those viruses when they cropped up in the last several years. Governor scott has allocated 26. 2 million to fight the virus. The real concern is theres no federal funding at this point. Congress recessed without passing a bill, and theyre not due back until after labor day. After that happens, mark, who knows how long it will take before they pass any kind of bill. Mark sure in south florida with miami was one thing. We he second mro area. We nee more help for sure. Aaron, thanks very much. Kelly the confirmed case in pinellas brings the total number of locally transmitted cases in our dr. Jo has fol zloweika closely for months now and joins us. I know Health Officials are investigating to find out how this person contracted zika. How does this process go on, and how long does it take . Kelly, it seems like it can take up to a month to get all the results then disseminated to us. Its a lengthy process because they have to identify the person and confirm the person has zika. Theres a test to be done by the cdc. Once that is done and they know for sure that zika problem, then they test the individuals around that person. It can be contacts in their household and family members. Did this person go to an outdoor event, and do we need to test those individuals . There could be coworkers as well. As soon as they think, though, that there is zika involved, they dispatch the Mosquito Control individuals. They go to their home and look around for standing water and try to eliminate any kind of risk there would be mosquito di. Certainly i think they would process. So a lot of it begins even prior to that ultimate confirmation. That lapse time, i think, is just a little bit difficult for us in the media, because we cant really get that information out to individuals. I really think, kelly, it makes a big difference when people know its in their immediate community. Absolutely. We dont know the name of the person or the neighborhood that you found out they are treating that neighborhood. They know, but they arent tells us . Yes, they are. They said that begins the presumptive test back or that person has zika, they start that process again. The whole goal is to hit this in different directions. You want to decrease the mosquito population able to then pass it on to someone else. You want to make sure that the people around them are not infected, because four out of five people dont have symptoms atsoever. The only way to figure out if they have it is to test them. Then you have to figure out if theyre positive, you have to do the same exact thing with their and it costs a lot of money and entails a lot of really highly Trained Personnel to carry it out. Kelly a lot of concerned pregnant women watches right now. What is your advice to them . I say just becareful. An ounce of prevention is worth multiple pounds of cure. You have to remember theres nothing that can be done for zika. Theres no pill or antiviral or nothing. If a pregnant woman contracts it, its a wait and see. Sometimes if the baby does develop severe birth defects, theyre not apparent until very late in the pregnancy. If you are pregnant, you know, just take precautions. Wear deet, long sleeves, long pants, try to avoid areas where mosquitos are. I have even heard some obstetricians talking about getting a mosquito net and sleeping in one. You can treat your clothing. Thats very, very simple. Have someone else in the household do that. So lots of ways to protect yourself, and certainly i think at this point inim we cant we definitely hav to do the best. Kelly do their best and talk to their doctors. Hank you so much. Were tracking the tropics right now. Im sure you heard about this. The is system Everyone Needs to watch. Lets go to paul to find out whats going on. Hey there. Paul it doesn have a name yet, and theoretically the first hurricane to hit florida since 2005 is still a storm with no name. It is invest 99l, invest short for inst development. I mean, its fighting a lot of dry air. Its moving to the westnorthwest. Hurricane hunter plane today took off from st. Croix, took a look inside the system. Did some investigation. In the invest did not find a closed circulation. For now were not talking about it being a depression or storm, but it is predicted to move to the westnorthwest, probably skirting north of puerto rico and getting out by the turks and caicos in the bahamas where the water is certainly warm enough then after that, i mean, theres all kinds of potential solutions on what the storm could do. I have to stress that the european model, which, you know, over the past five years or so has done a great job in forecasting tropical development. You think back on joaquin and superstorm sandy, the european model did great. It shows the hurricane approaches south florida and moving across the peninsula and get kind of blocked by this high. Thats the key, whats happened in north carolina. Strong high here prevents the storm from curving out to sea or heads up to the carolinas. The storm is likely forced back to the west. When does that turn happen . It gets into the gulf where the waters are ridiculously warm in the gulf. Head up to louisiana, mississippi, alabama, a lot of potential solutions here, and we talk more about that, plus big storm it is outside right now. Your complete sky tower forecast see you then. Mark e have an update for a story we first told you about last night. Four people accused of killing. Adam hillary went on a date with a woman he met on the website plentyoffish. After the date being took her back to the apartment and she cased the place. She later returned with three others and they robbed and killed hillary. Kelly investigators say the couple and biting the mans face may have ingested chemicals from the garage. 19yearold Austin Harrouff remains in Critical Condition a week after the attack that killed john stevens and michelle mischon. The fbi is running tests to see whether hour rauf is under the influence of bath salts under the attack. He told deputies that they would find no drugs in his system. Before he randomly attacked the couple. A 21yearold man sits in a land olakes jail after coming from new york to hook up with a 13yearold girl. The parents of that girl found them in their bedroom with their daughter. Hes 21 years old. He melt the 13yearold online. He also had a number naked pictures of the girl on his cell phone. Hes facing a number of a string of fires at bay area mosques as the muslim the community alarmed and atf taking a closer look at the investigations. Anjuli davis reports tonight why the investigators believe this may be a Chain Reaction of copycat crimes. Anjuli a once sacred room reserve toed prayer is reduced to rubble. The drywall is rotten. Its insulation, the carpets. We have toe redo everything. Bush boulevard was originally thought to be caused by an electrical glitch. Turns out it was arson. Some people are scared. Reporter sibley of care florida it is the bay area Muslim Community is increasing security measures. All mosques especially at services to hire an offduty sheriffs deputy. Thats important. Have greeters who can keep an eye on who is coming in and out. Have security cameras. Reporter atfonfirm another fire at the islamic country was burned intentionally. At least two others are under investigation. He have a suspect in mind for at least one of the blazes, but dont believe the fires are connected. Instead, may be the work of copycat criminals. We dont know what the motivation is right now, but for me the motivation doesnt matter. The fact that a prison is willing to set fire to a building where Children Play is enough to tell me all i need to know about that kind of person, seriously. In the meantime local mosque leaders continue to pray for perseverance and peace. Whatever it takes. 1 at a time. Youll be back together for anybody and everybody. We have the godgiven solar energy in florida. Lets take advantage of it. We do indeed. Im Hillary Clinn this message. How do we make the economy work for everyone . Hillary clintons plan starts here. By making big corporations and those at the top finally pay their fair share in taxes. And those companies that move overseas . Shed charge them an exit tax. Then shed use that money to make the largest investment in creating good paying jobs since world war ii. Millions of jobs. You can read the plan here. Kelly we have a lot going to with Severe Weather and the windusts fm the thunderstorms over mcdill, 56 Miles Per Hour a few minutes ago. It slides to the southwest, and just a second ago they issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Pinellas County until 6 45. Well show you that on radar in a second. First, heres a look outside and you can see it over tampa with very heavy rain. That has jumped over the bay and right now its approaches downtown st. Pete. Thats the view from the Johns Hopkins Childrens Hospital cam. Lots of heavy rain. The main threat of this thunderstorm is Straight Line winds in excess of 60 Miles Per Hour. That includes every place you see in this polygon, which is covered in orange. Well zoom in, and todays high in tampa was 95 degrees. Theres a lot of energy for the atmosphere to work with. As we alluded to yesterday, more woul lead to better coverage. Thats the case, so now the severe thunderstorm is jumping over the bay and needless to say, the commute over the bridges is tough. Youve got very heavy rain. Youve got a heavy rain, frequent lightning and winds probably 50 to 60 over the bridges right now. That extends down to Feather Sound and all the way down to northeast st. Pete and just about to downtown. This is moving to the westsouthwest. If you watch us on the Pinellas County indian rocks, youll be looking northeast at heavy weather heading your way in the next half hour. The warning expires at 6 45 tonight. Once again, the main threat is going to be strong winds. Oviously, you get the heavy rain and lightning. Strong winds are the main factor, and then another storm up by carrollwood. This is sliding southwest towards t. I. A. Theres other storms up by new tampa. Everything is following in a from polk county kind of curves over the green swamp and close to zephyrhills. Thats also diving to the southwest, and then from ruskin down 75 to almost ellenton, theres heavy rain just to the southwest of sun city center. If you watch us in sarasota, pretty good thunderstorm is kind of flirting with you right now jumping over towards leto. Severe thunderstorm warning for pinellas couy the main threat will be strong winds, and temrares have cooled dramatically because of clouds and rain from 95 in tampa down to 82. 81 in st. Pete. Away from the rain, its 95 in punta gorda and 93 in sarasota. We fly to the southeast, and this will be, obviously, we talk a lot about this in the next four to five days and maybe beyond that. This is a pretty strong tropical wave. It is not a depression yet. Hurricane hunter plane was in did not find a closed circulation. This is a spot where usually you dont get a lot of intensification. Its going to move out of this zone, probably kind of skirt north of puerto rico and then get up towards the bahamas where the water temperatures here are running 85 to 90. Just a lot of potential energy, and certainly the water temps can support a rapidly developing major hurricane either east of florida or west of florida. Water temperatures are warm, and also the depth of that warm the surface, and thats what yo. Invest in short for investigation. Computer models have a track to the westnorthwest. Theres Many Solutions here, and even there was a hint earlier today the storm could head up to the carolinas, but its all about the turn in how it really develops as it approaches the bahamas and or state. The european model heres how it plays out. Well let it go. East near miami, kind of slicing across miami and kind of has, i hate to say it, kind of has that katrina path where it moves, you know katrina hit miami, too. It moves across the state, and then it kind of slices up towards louisiana and mississippi and alabama. This is a distinct possibility. Its not a sure thing, because the other model, which we kind of lost a little faith with over the past five years, the gfs model says will happen. This is the run here which shows a broad area of low pressure monday at 4 00. Obviously, its not a clearcut situion. We blogging on this. Were tracking it on myfoxhurricane. Com. Latest tracks and models, interactive model tracks and live Hurricane Hunter flight feed and our tropical blog. Check it out at myfoxhurricane. Com and always on twitter and facebook. Keep you uptodate 24 7. Tonight storms will end, back up to at least 92. 95 today. More of the same on thursday. The weekend forecast will hinge on what happens with a tropical system. If it slices south of us, we could be drier. We had a hurricane past south of us from the east, we dont get mu. Low 90s for highs, and then 75 to 80 for lows. Mark. Mark this is one of the great ironies in florida. Were first in sunshine but way behind in solar energy. Solar is fill amendment 4 on tuesdays primary ballot. Lloyd sowers shows us what it means. Reporter at irwin tech in tampa, dan harmon learns to install and repair solar energy systems, a good job but also a passion. He wants to end relying on the Utility Companies for power. What we want to do is change that and put more of the power to the people so we can produce our own electricity and change the policies around. Reporter and make solar more affordable.
