Fox 29s Chris Oconnell has that story. Reporter the Philadelphia Police headquarters here with its iconic yet outdated design has long been in need of an upgrade. In fact construction has already started on a brand new headquarters in west philly. But fox 29 has learned tonight the city may scrap those plans and stay closer to home. Every day for the past year, Gladys Watson has been walking by the future home of the Philadelphia Police depth headquarters on 46th and mark streets in west philly it was supposed to be finished in december. I was just talking with someone about theyve been working on it for about a year, and we were wondering when its going to be finish. Reporter burt weve learned it may never been done at all after millions of dollars were already spent on renovation the city may scrap the west philly deal. A spokesman for mayor jim kenney tells fox 29 that the city is in the midst of a thorough review of plans developed by the Previous Administration to relocate Police Headquarters and the medical Examiners Office to 4601 market street. Weve out grown this a long long time ago. Reporter Police Commissioner richard ross says the department is in desperate need more space and newer technology. He says the current headquarters at seventh and race known as the round house built in the iconic shape of handcuffs was obsolete years ago. I think while probably was a Novel Concept years ago, decades ago, it was outdated probably not long after it was built. Reporter but some of the department have been quietly complaining the west philly site was too far away from the criminal courts building and not convenient enough to many officers. Prosecutors charged a 17yearold boy. They say he attacked the 72yearold, stole her car and credit cards and left her bound and lock gagged as well in a closet with a plastic bag over her head. Her daughterinlaw did not find her until four days later. She is out of the hospital. A pill scare at a Delaware Middle School sent a half dozen kids to the hospital. Brandywine School DistrictOfficials Say a student at Ps Dupont Middle School brought pills to school and gave them out to five others. The mayor reveal his news fiscal year budget in front of the city council today. Kenney says does not plan on raising property taxes. Budget targets homelessness by creating moorhouseing. The mayor says it also battles the drug crisis by opening more room for treatment and methadone clinics. We ask you to lift up our most vulnerable and increasing resources that will improve their health and wellbeing and we also ask you to support job creating initiatives that will increase Economic Opportunities for all of our residents.
