After nearly nine years in prison, the former nfl star was granted parole for his role in a robbery in las vegas. And we have that you are currently, well very recently turned 90 years old im sorry about that. [ laughter ] you look great for 90. The parole board member asking the fallen celebrity if he was humbled. Are you humbled by this incarceration. Oh, yes, for sure. As i said i wish it would have never happened. Im no danger, i didnt pull a gun on anybody. I never have in my life. I never been accused of it in my life. Nobody has ever accused of me of pulling any weapon on them. Ive done my time. You know, ive done it as well and as respectfully as i think anybody can. His daughter became emotional giving her testimony sometimes stopping to shake her head. On behalf of my family, my brother, my sister, an aunt, an uncle, his friends, we just want him to come home. I think if they would have put that in there he probably would have served the rest of his term. Im not happy witness decision. Reporter murders still weigh though on the minds of some. If you murder, f that was my on or daughter there would be trouble. He wouldnt be walking the streets. I think hes still a dangerous man and he should have been kept in. I think he serve served enou. Reporter others believe the 33yearold sentence was so stiff because of the murder acquittal so nine years was plenty. I think he got paroled on the merits of this case, not on the merits of the other case. So on the merits of this case, nine years was a long time to spend in jail. Reporter so soon to begin yet another chapter in the life of oj simpson one many hope is never news worthy again. He had a smirk on his face. I dont think he learn his lesson. I hope he move on. No more oj. Reporter oj could be released as early as october 1st but being on parole does come with conditions at least through 2022. Yeah police say she even picked up a fare while she was driving that taxi. Our Sabina Kuriakose tracked down that Surveillance Video tonight. Sabina, this is quite a story. Reporter iain and lucy especially when you look at the video and see that this cab driver was just trying to help this woman out. Turns out, of course, no good deed goes unpunish. This is the moment a kindhearhearted cab driver hela customer out of his taxi and into a gas station convenience store. And this is the moment the 65yearold woman pays him back. By jumping into the drivers seat and taking off. It was all caught on camera. That makes you think twice about wanting to be a good samaritan. Reporter cops say just past midnight the freedom cab driver picked up his fare in germantown. Surveillance video shows the two stoppinstopping at this gas stan north broad street before the woman gets behind the wheel and then wont budge. Police are called but the suspect identified as betty davis thomas drives off. It wasnt long before cops at the 25th district saw her outside their station and they pulled her over but get this, she had passengers in the back seat. That one took the cake. I mean she took the car and she took the cab. She picked up fairs. She made money. Reporter police say 23yearold mother and infant daughter had hailed the cab. Not realizing the driver was a fake. No answer at bettys door thursday. Meantime cab customers in the city say it is terrifying to realize you may never know who is behind the wheel. Its legitimate company and they have cabs out here all the time. I wouldnt think twice about it. I just be thankful knob nothing hammed and me and my daughter were safe. Reporter yeah, and nobody was hurt. Now the alleged thief is charged with auto theft ton night that cab driver is back on duty. No one has heard from anna in months. Pennsylvania state Police Investigators spent hours at the missing womans homeworking into this evening. No one has seen her since april. Others dont but they are definitely concerned about this wife and mother. We were there this evenin as investigators took bags and computer equipment from the ho home. State police combed the inside and outside of this home on hedge row lane in malvern well into the evening bringing out bags and containers of evidence. Its the home of 43yearold anna, who vanished thee months ago. Time has past. A lot of time has past. Im sure for annas parents these three months have actually been years and years and years. Reporter group of concerned people who formed a group called fine anna watch closely throughout the day as forensics investigators concentrated on several areas outside the house, too. Including the front lawn and this small area of trees and shrubbery alongside the back of the house. If you hear anybody talk about anna, she was the kindest, um, sweetest woman. Always smiling. Reporter some in the group new anna from her job as an actuary at via financial. Others like Jacqueline Swan are just from the area but touched by whats happening. Boots on the ground trying to get flyers out. Media attention, to find this woman. Reporter anna lived in this home with her husband and now fouryearold son. We know according to investigators that the woman was last seen by her husband on april 10th before she left for work in west chester. They were notified the next day after she didnt show up for work. Her car was found may fifth at a walking trail in the area. Philadelphia and septa police say they fired at a man when he pointed his gun at them and septa officers body cameras caught everything they went down. Dave schratwieser has the story. Reporter as this picture shows the suspect pointed a gun at arriving officers after Police Responded to reports of a shooting and a man with a gun. Seven officers opened fire on the armed suspect. The woman who was shot is still in critical right now. The Delaware County man who shot and seriously injured a Police Officer now knows his fate. 34yearold donte island will serve 33 to 100 years in prison. Prosecutors say he shot folcroft Police OfficerChristopher Dorman seven times in june of last year. Dorman was critically wounded but is now back on the force. He was at islands sentencing hearing today. I think im very fortunate im here and able to speak today and able to see dante get the sentence that he did. As far as Police Officers are a target in this country in this world today, i think theres needs to be strictor sentences on crimes against law enforcement. Officer dormans mother addressed the court in emotional speech asking for the maximum sentence but the judge stopped short of giving that taking into consideration islands public apology to dorman and his fami family.
