She says the septa engineer said his train had been hit by a rock or possibly shot at. And the amtrak engineer said he believed his train was hit as well. Now, the ntsb has asked the fbi to join in on this investigation ton look at the damage on that windshield that may have been caused by a projectile. Today were also hearing from the First Responders who saved lives that night. Fox 29s Jennifer Joyce is live in port richmond. It was a night probably all of them will never forget. Jenny . Reporter yeah, chris. They tell us that they leaned on their training and they acted on instinct to save as many lives as possible. You dont think about the dangers. You just grab and go. Reporter within four minutes of the first call police, fire and ems crews arrived on scene. Your adrenaline is going and at that point youre just kind of worried about helping others and getting to certain civilians that arent able to help themselves. Reporter without hesitation First Responder the risked their open lives to save other. We actually carried quite a few people over the track. There was a lot of downed wires and the tracks were still life as well. Reporter 25th District Police officer Timothy Stephen was among the first to arrive. Officer huff and i were in one of the trains it rocked back and forth. At that point it got a little scary. Reporter was this real happening . At first noel a health huhn man Service Program manager with oem wasnt sure. Her office underwent training for mass casualty events like this one. I thought it was an extension of the exercise for second. I was in denial this was happening. It was the first mass employment of tourniquets by Philadelphia Police officers. The equipment was brought in a couple of years ago for this type of emergency. Tourniquets were distributed much these were Lessons Learned from boston and other major incidents and the mere use of them indicated this seventy three rest injuries. From start to finish it was all about team work. To me comradery and the unity between the police and the Fire Department that was the most overwhelming thing for me the level of cooperation. 33 years ive never seen that much. Everybody pitched in. Everybody tried to help. Reporter its pretty amaze amazing to hear about that in such a heroic situation to hear the level of positive team work is touch much chris dawn. All right jenny. It had to have been very tough. Thank you. A visitor to Temple University hospital is hoping to gain some new perspective into the heroic efforts made there and at other area hospitals after the deadly amtrak crash on tuesday night. Senator bob casey trying to get a tour of the trauma unit today. Nine victims of the amtrak crash are still being treated there. One was just transferred from another hospital to be with a family member. Casey says hes grateful to see up close how the hospital stepped up when so many people needed help. I was able to get a tour of the emergency area and listen and learn and be inspired by the really miraculous work that was done here, and the most horrific of circumstances. Were toll the patient whos remain in Critical Condition have rib and bone fractures but doctors believe that everyone will be okay. Again, the ntsb says it spoke with the trains engineer and two assistant conductors today. The inform tsb says the engineer is being cooperative but does not remember anything after ringing a train bell at the north philadelphia train station. Engineer Brandon Bostian reported he was not tired, he was not sick and assistant conductor who was also interviewed today says she did overhear a radio conversation between the conductor and a septa engineer. She says that the septa engineer said his train was hit by a rock or possibly shot at and that the engineer of train 188 said that he believed that his train was hit as well. So now the ntsb asked the fbi to join in this investigation and look very closely at the damage on the windshield. Damage that may have been caused by a projectile. It has been a busy week. Lots to tell you. Our coverage on the derailment will continue on myfoxphilly. Com myfoxphilly. Com. We are posting every update there along with the unforgettable images from this historic week. Thats where Police Officers began scowering the Railroad Tracks near 68th and kingsessing this morning after a witness there told them that she saw a man and a woman throw a baby off of a bridge on to a moving Freight Train. Now detectives say the witnesses report was backed up by Surveillance Video and it shows two people on top of the bridge with something in their arms. The engineer on the csx Freight Train reporting that he saw two people standing on the bridge as well as he passed underneath it. She cease a mail kiss what she describes as baby, like brown complected with fuzz on his head, and she continues driving passed she looks in the rear view mirror and cease the male leaning over the train bridge here. I hope its not true. This point from the description we have shes provideed us and the fact she works with infants we have nothing at this point to lead us in the direction its not true. Police stopped the train that passed through during the incident in chester and searched it but found nothing. Helicopter also brought in to search the railway and a train in bucks county. Meantime police are asking the man and woman scene in that video to come forward. Its going to really feel like summer in your fox 29 weekend Weather Authority. Chief meteorologist Scott Williams here with a look ahead. Might be dodging raindrops scott. Yeah, thats certainly right chris and dawn. Were looking at ultimate doppler right now tracking rainfall off to the west. Its not going to be an entire weekend washout but keep an eye to the sky for some rain. The humidity will increase. The temperatures are also going to increase. As we look far north and west you can see some showers trying to move toward the pocono mountains and the Lehigh Valley encountering drier air there might be a few raindrops there. Otherwise 74 degrees right now. Kind of a milky sky outdoors but humidity very low at 27 . We have 73 in trenton upper 60s right now in wilmington. So a comfortable evening. Increasing clouds. There might be a spotty shower far north and west. Otherwise temperatures by 11 00 oclock tonight right around 64 degrees. We need some rainfall. So far this month take a look at the rainfall deficits. Philadelphia over an inch and a half. Almost an inch and a half bow average for the month in trenton and allentown is closing in on 2inches bow average for this month. Ill have the timing of that rainfall coming up as well as the entire weekend forecast. All right. Guys, back to you. All right, as the survivors of amtrak train 188 continue to improve tonight the focus turning to safety. Transportation officials looking into ways to avoid future tragedies on the tracks. Fox 29 weekend anchor Bill Anderson jumping aboard a is epp at a train today to get a first happened look at technology that may have prevented this week deadly crash. Reporter now that everyone on amtrak train 188 has been accounted for people are focused almost entirely on what caused the crash and how to ensure that it never happens again. One of things that people are focused on is ptc or positive train control. Today i spent the day at septas Training Facility where they showed me this system that basically supposed to remove driver error and make sure these types of things just cant happen. The computer is really watching the actions looking at things calculating things, can the engineer stop in time . It really is a quantum leap forward from the previous signal systems systems. Reporter . An alert is coming on. Reporter ptc has been mandated by the government and scheduled to be complete by the end of the year. Its getting so much exposure because most believe that if it was in place this weeks crash would have been highly unlikely. Train knows where its at. It notice what the maximum authorized speed is and if youre above it for too long very short period of time it will put the train into an emergency brake application. Reporter to be clear amtrak, not septa was responsible for the track where the crash occurred. But today gave me a firsthand look at the huge undertaking that positive train control requires. Were so glad that you came out and saw really all thats involved and then not only just building it, but getting the bugs out and testing is a big big part of this. Reporter in my limited experience ptc does seem to make a big difference in terms of train safety but i was also able to see some of the reasons 10 billion price tag and the extended installation process. Guys septa was very gracious in allowing us access to their facilities and their training exercises. But they also pointed out that we still dont know if there were other things involved with the crash other than just speed and if there were, tragically ptc may not have made that much of a difference. Here in the newsroom im Bill Anderson fox 29 news. A confirmed case of hepatitis a at a popular local restaurant. Fox 29 is there right now asking how this happened. Sean . Chris cheaters never win. This is a case tom brady and new england patriots. What brady is doing now to heal dee 98 gate later in sports. Its a money maker. I mean, i just feel like our children are paying the price for these high stakes tests and their teachers are stressed out about it. So, teachers arent benefiting. Theyre not getting information from these tests that are helpful for teaching. Kids arent benefiting because they dont even know what they got right or wrong. They just know that they feel really bad about it. Parents arent benefitting because i dont get any more information about my child. So the only people that could possibly be benefitting from this are corporations who are making the tests and selling the tests. Explosive new information about the deadly amtrak derailment. Federal investigators Just Announced the details of their interview with the trains engineer and fox 29s Shawnette Wilson is in society hill where the ntsb wrapped up that News Conference. She sat in on it. What is the latest from the ntsb shawnette . Reporter chris as you mentioned today they were able to interview the engineer. That was the delay in the press conference. They also interviewed two of the conductors on amtrak train 188. The third were told they were not able to talk to because that person is still in the hospital. Now, the highlight of that questioning today is that one conductor tells investigators that she was actually listening to radio talks between her engineer thats the amtrak 188 engineer, and a septa train engineer. They recalled septa report its train had been hit by a rock or shot at happen a broken windshield. That train stopped. The engineer of 188 allegedly said he had been struck by something too. Ntsb is having the fbi look into that part of the trains windshield tonight possibly struck by something much that is the big question now though, did something hit the windshield that caused the engineer to go off the tracks . Lets listen to board member Robert Sumwalt as part of that press conference today. Recalls ringing the train bell as he went through the north philadelphia station. Thats not a normal station stop for him but hes required by regulations to sound his bell. I may have said horn. Hes required to sound his bell as goes through past the station stop. And did he that. He recalled doing that. But he has no recollection of anything past that. Reporter of course, that is Robert Sumwalt board member with the inform tsb talking about the engineer going through the philadelphia train station ringing a bell he said the engineer tells him he does not remember much of anything that happened after that. But again the big thing that came out of this News Conference today is that there may have been something that hit the windshield of that train. Windshield does have of course damage it to from it the impact of the crash but Robert Sumwalt says theyll be looking at having the fbi look at the windshield tonight to see in fact if something did hit that caused the engineer to go off the track. Also this weekend were told they plan to reassemble the train and test it. That had likely take seven days. But other than thats correct again, they say the engineer was very familiar with the territory in which he was driving says he felt well that day reported no injuries or no illnesses. Big thing out of this press conference did something hit the windshield of amtrak train 188 that is what the fbi as well as ntsb will continue to look at starting this evening. Chris . Shawnette, thank for the update. Were continueing to follow another developing story in Camden County. Two local Health Departments taking extra precautions to night after an employee at a popular restaurant tested positive for highly infectious disease. Fox 29s brad sattin spoke with Health Official who are keeping a very close eye on this situation. We did speak to the Camden CountyHealth Department a short timing a much the word were getting theres very little risk to the public at this point. The restaurant were talking about is here the Iron Hill Brewery its called. Its in the Voorhees Township center complex. Its been in business here for couple of years now. They have a good record of Health Inspections and by all accounts this incident was handled properly. Heres what we know right now. The 26yearold employee at the Iron Hill Brewery began showing symptoms on may second. He went to virtue ya hospital may eighth. Hepatitis at that point was confirm. The employee important to note had not been working here while he was sick. Iron hill reported it to the Camden CountyHealth Department. The employee was a server not a food preparer no one else got sick. Other employees were vaccinated as precaution. Now hepatitis a is an inflammation of the liver. It spreads through feces but the server didnt have the symptoms that would have allowed it to spread while he was working. We wanted to make sure our customers and our staff are safe we tried to everything weve done everything the board of health asked and basically they said theres very little really no risk of any body getting sick at this point. You would need to be presenting with severe diarrhea and you would need to have poor hygiene come in contact with the food directly not washing your hands there. Would be certain risk factors we do not believe he distributed displayed any of those. Reporter Iron Hill Brewery has two locations in new jersey. But this is the one in voorhees in question. Again, the Health Department saying little risk to the public public. Chris and dawn . All right thank you brad. Back to your fox 29 Weather Authority now. Scott . Looks like a little summer out there. Yeah. Well watch the humidity increase chris and dawn as well as the temperatures and our chances for rainfall will increase by the upcoming weekend as well. As we look at ultimate doppler arc few showers off to the far north and west trying to make it to the ground. There might be a spotty shower around allentown as well as the pocono mountains but most of us dry, comfortable increasing clouds. Were looking at that spotty shower chance north and west this evening and overnight temperatures by 11 00 oclock right around 64 degrees. So what about tomorrow . Were looking at partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies. 84 degrees will be the High Temperature in many locations and watch the clock. So you can see saturday morning that might be a spotty shower. Saturday afternoon there might be a spotty shower or thunderstorm. Its not going to be a washout. That seven day forecast will show you temperatures in the mid even upper 80s for this weekend. So just keep the rain gear handy. And then as we move toward next week more seasonal temperatures back to near that average high which is 74 degrees. If you like it hot
