WTXF Good Day Philadelphia At 7A August 17, 2017

About seeing time frozen in some paths. It is about who we choose to honor today. Is it a sign of pride . Or a symbol of history. Today in court. The man charged in the road rage killing of a teenage girl, goes before a judge, what we can expect as david desper those court in west chester county. And it is game two of the preseason at home. The eagles take on the bills tonight at the linc. What we should be watching for when the birds take the field. An icon on good day. We are just weeks away from the reese least of sheila es new albumn. Her message for america when she joins just studio. The last time sheila e was into the studio i pulled a hamstring. Trying to kick your leg up . Ya. Leave it show to sheila. Leave it to her. So we did go looking for some sammy davis photos, weve found one. There go. But here is the deal, though. Yes . I have two points to make, one we had to specifically search for sammy davis junior peace sign, and broke eyes open, the fact you close the eyes are incorrect. Because someone said alec, he had a glass eye so he had both eyes open. I know. That will but i oh, my gosh. My roads here. You know that, but what . So how do i show that . Okay, youre paying homage . Homage. A homage. I met him, i admire what he over came in life. One of the best entertainers ever lived. He can do it all. But i cant i cant show you a glass eye. Why do you have to slow the glass eye . Why cant we just focus on the voice . You dont have the voice, is that what it is . I dont have the voice. Anyway. Because i laugh every single time you do it. I just cant. On cue. True. Lets go to the numbers of the day. It is a eight out of ten today. Because it will be a lot like yesterday. Getting into the upper 80s, it will be a little more humid than it was yesterday. So, warning for. That will hey, today is black cat Appreciation Day. Often theyre the last ones left at the shelters, not bad luck, just as wonderful as any other cat. So we appreciate stormy, with bus stop buddy today, 60s, 70s, clear, comfy, few clouds and, 07 degrees in philadelphia, 78 relative humidity. And no showers showing up, little ground clutter on radar. Weve got a High Temperature today, of 88 degrees, mostly sunny skies, bit more humid than yesterday. But, all an in all, not bad. We will tell when you the rain rolls in. Coming up in the seven day forecast. But right now, it is time, 7 03, to take a look at traffic. We start off with jam cam, schuylkill schuylkill, westbound, the same spot every day right there at sit avenue, where that merge occurs everybodys jam up there. Now we had this problem with patco. Between philadelphia and lindenwold, there is a delay, there, on the emergency schedule, because of derailed Work Equipment. And you see it there, from skyfox, as they continue to work on re railing, i suppose, when something is derailed, do you re rail it . Anyway trains running as locals in both directions single tracking around ferry avenue, broadway stations and emergency construction right lane block, a. C. Expressway westbound, at route 73, watch out for that, as well. Mike and alex. Im an expert of going offer the rales. So im glad you ask me. We all witness it. Yes, we have. I was watching the news channels last night. What a beautiful candlelight vigil, they had last night. What was so beautiful about it, it was many prom too, not like scheduled. People just came together. In charlottesville of course. Thousands marched at the university of virginia, to stands up to hate groups that marched with torches last weekend. And then here in philly, a sea of people filled broad street in center city, hundreds turning out for, thousands really, look at this, for last nights philly charlottesville rally, organized by group called power. The demonstrators say, theyre determine to stand up to the hate in virginia, that happened on saturday. The Community Coming together what it is all about. I mean, we all need to stand up together. Im jewish. So im proud to gather at the synogogue, and walk to city hall, in solidarity, all of these good people. Rally organizers tell us their goal to stand up for equality, lgbtq issues, matters that score individual racism in the community. So, that was going on. And basically across the street, police are guarding the frank rizzo statue because some people, in the city, want that taken down. And then some people are saying, no, it should be left up. Big debate thats been brought back up again, jenny . Hey, jenny. Yes. Mike and alex, so we still have Police Patrolling the area, but no one standing by the statue, any longer. What we do have crews here, arriving, to clean the frank rizzo statue. We know the last couple of days, there have been eggs thrown. The statue has been vandalized here we go hosing him off right now getting him all clean up. We are told that the barricades will stay up here, for a little while longer, at least, until things settle down and it is decided what happens next. Lets take a look what happened last night. Thousands of people marched and rallies, many used this as an opportunity to continue the fight to remove the frank rizzo statue that sit across the way from city hall. People want it removed and argue that rizzo wasnt nice to all races, and in todays world, should not score such prominent placement in center city. He was tough on crime. But the man is a racist, thats my opinion, and i believe that the statue should be in front of the Police Administration building. I was here in philadelphia. And i remember him being a mayor. I remember everything that he did. I didnt stand for a lot of things did he, especially, to africanamericans. However, he doesnt need to be there. But the other side of the story largely on social media. A lot of people coming out with the if he petition on change. Org. More than 16,000 signatures for people who want this monument to stay in place. And back out here live, you can see the clean up work continues. Again, this is a fall out from some vandalism, when the statute was egged couple of nights ago, this is the first time it has been clean since, mike and alex. Getting the scrubbing. Yes washing it down. See what happens today. Thank you, jenny. And we also are going to have more after discussion in just a few minute. Yes. About the frank rizzo statue and the debate thats been brewing once again. So keep voting on our twitter and facebook pages. Yes, facebook the last we check, 75 of the people who voted said that they want to keep the statue. Keep it up. Uhhuh. All right, the Delaware County man charged with fatally shooting and a 18 year old woman during a road rage encounter is set to be in court in just a little bit. A preliminary hearing in the case will get underway, a little bit later this morning, sabina, weve had some people reach out. Because theyre kind of confused on the time when this is supposed to start. Were told it is supposed to start about 9 00 this morning, and this is 28 year old david desper, charged with the first degree murder of 18 year old Bianca Roberson. Here we have rodneys father who just arrived, here at the courthouse, and hes so incredibly kind, speaking to us especially during such a difficult time. And youve been so kinds and gracious with us, this whole time. Can you just tell us how your family is doing . It is to has only been not even two months since this happened to your caughter. Taking it one day at a time. It is still hard for all of us, still something that we still cant believe. We think about bianca every day. So it is still really hard for us. And this is the first time that youre going to be coming facetoface with the man accused of killing her. Yes, it is. And is there anything that you hope to say to him or anything that you want to get out of this hearing when you see him . We just want justice for our daughter. It is not going to bring her back. We still hurt. It is no explanation or anything i can say to him or can he say that would explain why he shot my daughter, he murder my caughter. She was a precious person. Beautiful girl, beautiful. Next week would have been her first day at college at jacksonville. Jacksonville university. Thats correct. Tell us, you have some youve got your banners, your family here this morning. What do you want the community to know . So many people rally around you whether all of this happened. This manhunt that they had so many tips coming in to help to try to find the suspect here watch would you say to the people who have come together for your family . Welshing we appreciate all of the support, everybody, i mean, they showed great deal of love and support from all over. And it touched us, it helped us, in a whole lot of ways. It helped ease the pain a little bit because of so many people had showed their love and support for us. Family, friends, the community, everybody. And we just thank them. For everything. You have been biancas voice, can you tell us about her, about this beautiful young woman, your caughter . She was a shining star to me. She was a star, i was proud of her, and looking for her to do bigger and better things. She was excited about going to college. And i would just wait to see all of the things that she was going to accomplish. Bright, beautiful future. Yes, she did. Ahead of her. We had spoken, prosecutors approaching road rage motive here. Is that still something on your mind, or well, road rage, hate crime, the bottom line to me is my daughter was murdered. How much crime you want to say it was he pulled the gun and shot my daughter. And closure is always such a trite worth here, but maybe some answers as this trial moves forward is that correct what you are homing for . Do i want to know why he did it . No, not really. Just shot my daughter. It is no explanation, reason, anything that you can say to me will justify why you shot my daughter. Rodney, thank you so much. Youve been so kind and gracious with us, as your family goes through this difficult time. We appreciate you speaking out with us this morning. Again our condolances sir for your lost, thank you again for being so kind us to, thank i so much. Again, that preliminary hearing starts at 9 00 this morning. Twentyeight year old david desper charged with first degree murder held without bail since he was charged and arrested, last month, guys, back to you. Wonderful strong family. Very. Very strong. All right, so President Trump, as you know, still embattled after his comments, not once, not twice, but three times, about the violence in charlottesville, virginia. So, doug luzader has more from washington, where the white house strategy seems to be a work in progress. Alex, mike, good morning, the president is increasingly isolated in the aftermath of the event in charlottesville, and his shifting responses to what happened there. In charlottesville, a vigil overnight. Peaceful, despite some fears that protesters might disrupt the event. That on a day when the woman who was killed over the weekend, was remembered in a memorial service. Heathers mother with em based plea for others to follow her daughters example. I would rather have my child, but by golly if i have to give her up we will make it count. Pressure on the president meantime continues to build after his comments that both sides were to blame for the clashes in charlottesville. Seen by some as moral equivalent. More defections from his business council, to the point where the president decided to simply disband them. Tweeting rather than put willing pressure on the Business People of the manufacturing council, and strategy and policy forum, i am ending both. Thank you all. Democrats have broadly condemned the president , and while some republicans have carefully joined the course, others in the administration were supportive. Including secretary of veterans affairs, david shulkin. I was with President Trump on saturday as these events were unfolding, he was upset, he was outraged. Controversial president ial advisor, steve bannon, gave rare interview to the american prospect. Calling the nazi and White Nationalist protesters losers, and a fringe element that must be crushed, the president himself remained relatively quiet on the subject, yesterday, at least. I think that their strategy today has been to stop digging, they didnt have the president out to continue to talk about this in a way that undoes what he tried to do on monday and in that sense i think theyve made some rock rest today. There has been series every tweets this morning, one every which is the public learning even more so now how dishonest the fake news is they totally misrepresent sent what i say about hate, bigotry, et cetera. Shame. Mike and alex. I mean, went after lindsay gram, too, didnt he . Yes. Linsey gram accused him, and also a tweet going after gram specifically on that argument. Yes, yes, equating the White Supremecist with Heather Heyer and the opposing group. All right, so i noticed on the cover of the New York Post yesterday, they were talking about think werent all nazis, tuesday afternoon at trump tower. Trump back at it. We thought, there was a documentary philadelphia many crew that was documenting the entire thing from last friday night, into saturday down there in charlottesville. And they did an interview. To try to keep the statue of robert. Rail. This was documentary with thomas drayton, they do news service now. They do. And this was part of it. Interview White Supremecist who helped lead the charlottesville rally. Provided in depth description of his beliefs and his movements, goals at the rally. Ella refers conducted the interview, delivered racist remarks about africanamericans, and jewish people, including President Trumps soninlaw, jarrod kushner. Im caring a pistol, i go to the gym all the time, trying to make myself more capable every violence, im here to spread ideas, talk in the hopes that somebody more capable will come along and do that, somebody like donald trump who does not give his daughter to a jew. So donald trump a lot more racist than donald trump. I dont think that you could feel about race the way i do. And watch that kushner walk around with that but the full girl, okay . Can you talk a little bit about the right adopting the politics or the political style to the left . We dont have the comradery, we dont have the trust level that our rivals do. And that comradery and trust is built up through activism. And thats one of the tack tis. Im caring a pistol. I go to the gym all the time. He was also asked about his movement. Whether or not it is a violent. Take a listen. This is part of the reason that we want a ethno state, right, the blacks count each other in staggers numbers coasttocoast. We dont want a part that far any more. So the fact that they resist us, when we say hey, we want a homeland, is not shocking to me. All right . These people want violence. And the right is just meeting market demand. Cantwell also defended the killing of Heather Heyer the woman killed saturday by a driver identified as White Supremecist, he said it was justified. President trump receiving criticism as weve been talking about because hes not made a point of, well, you know, by now, just kind of coming out against White Supremecist and neonazis at the rally. A lot of people talking about this the documentary very critical, another reminder about racism in this country and exactly what were dealing with. Shocking. Yes, it is about 30 minute documentary. Thats really been a lot of people have been looking at it, and providing more inside look. Yes. It is hard to find, find people in that group. You mean too long speak . No, i mean, said fine people on both sides. Oh,. The president did. It would be hard to find anybody that would be willing to march with those people. If they real bring thereto try to keep up the robert e lee statue, the minute you saw them with their torches, and blood and soil and jews will not replace us, stuff like that. I think you can go home. Wouldnt you . To hear those chants, i mean, ya. All right. 7 18. Heres sue. It is pretty nice start to the day, as we look at some construction, plenty of that going on in the city. Humid at the on the rise over the next couple every days. We have late week storms, which would mean tomorrow. Because hardly anything in the forecast for today. And it looks lick it is going to stay pretty hot. Upper 80s to around 90, through eclipse day on monday. Speaking of which, in case you just are now coming to the party, and realizing this is happening, were going to the exact number, about 80 eclipse what we will be, not 100 , but you will see a lot of the sun obscured at about 2 43 in the afternoon, it will be about 87 degrees then, looking for mostly sunny skies. So not a lot of clouds to obscure this. View through the pin hole box or approved glasses. Do not look directly at the sun nor with regular sunglasses, only through approved solar filter or one of those pin hole boxes we tried to make yesterday and pin. This 40 chance of rain tonight. 60 tomorrow. And the chance decreases as we head into the weekend. So, as we said earlier, go ahead, make those outdoor plans. Not too much in the way of following. Not like yesterday. 70 degrees in philadelphia. And wildwood. 56 degrees in mount pocono. So thats your column spot this morning. Pretty nice, comfortable in lancaster, and reading lower 60s, nobody maids it to 90 yesterday. We sure got close in philadelphia. With 89 degrees, so to recap in the seven day forecast, with the eagles game, muggy, 87 tomorrow. Eightynine saturday. And 87 sunday. Still in the upper 80s through tuesday and wednesday of next week. So thats a look at your seven day forecast, dont forget about the radio partner 101. 1 more p. M. M. Get your forecast and listen to all of their fabulous music, as well, while youre in the car. Now if youre in the car. Do you have really squint. There is a lot of sun glare, and were looking at the schuylkill expressway right around the conshohocken curve westbound, very bright there. And an accident down the shore. Us route nine, southbound, near 147. This is right where go into North Wildwood. Patco, the derailed Work Equipment causing problems thereon a delay, emergency between lindenwold and philadelphia. Patco this morning. Mike and alex. Weve been asking out of all of the sports teams in philly, which game, has you very satisfied, pumped up, so excited where you are like wow that was amazing . Yes, or just get in your car with the family and go, well, that was fun. The phillies, eagles, sixers, which one do you think it would be. This is a survey, which team actually won this
