The police and fire lined the street all night and cleared out of here as theyre going to the scene and wrapping up the investigation there. Prince georges county Police Department told us what we know so far and that is this happened around 7 30. It started as a neighbor or a person who was concerned about a man inside his home. The person was concerned because they thought he had medical conditions and they called for help. Two firefighters arrived at the house. As they were the man and get inside, he was unresponsive. They decided to force entry. As theyre in the process of trying to get inside the house, police say the man that was inside the home started firing a number of rounds. He hit two firefighters, he also hit the person who initially called for help because they thought the person inside was having a medical condition. As the person who called them initially was hit, not serious injuries there but the two firefighters were hurt when they were shot, critical injuries and they say the person, the man inside the home stopped firing as soon as the firefighters got inside and he realized they were there to help them. At that point, say officers, everything became calm. At this point, were 2 1 2 hours into thisup unfolding investigation. The relationship and the circumstances behind the shooting are unclear. As soon as we come into information that will make that more clear, well be happy to provide it to you. Its preliminary right now. Reporter still, a lot of investigationing to do and they say the suspect is and theyre talking to him now. Hes been cooperative. The other person is the one who initially called for help for this man who they said they were concerned about with the medical conditions. Guys . Reporter we have just been told were going to have a press conference here in about five minutes. Were expecting an update from someone with the Fire Department. One of the injured firefighters was brought to Southern Maryland and the other airlifted to shock trauma in baltimore. Multiple sources tell me they hearing the firefighter brought here has passed away. Prince Georges Fire Department has not confirmed that, about you were expecting an update here any moment. We dont have a lot of information about the their condition, one turn told me, that they were injured in the arm and had significantly less injuries compared to what the firefighters sustained here. Were expecting an update any minute. Its been a sad scene. When we first got here, why every we can, this parking lot was half full and now, people have parked along the root here. Of i have seen multiple cars pull up and people jump out and run into the hospital. Most of the people are wearing t shirts with pgfd on the back and you can see there is a group of people standing outside and they have been there the past couple of hours hugging, comforting each other and this is a very bussy and sad place now. The maryland state trooper hit and injured on the capital beltway remains in that hospital tonight in Critical Condition as well the trooper was hurt yesterday when the patrol car he was sitting in was hit from behind and he continues to be listed in Critical Condition. The driver, the driver who struck the trooper is still in prince georges Hospital Center for treatment of no charges were filed as that investigation continues. And a lot of students will spend the weekend recovering after the school bus crashed during a field trip. This happened this afternoon in the rfk Stadium Parking lot. They were from Woodbridge Elementary School in hyattsville and theyre visiting the science and engineering festival center. Emergency crews took 22 children and two adults to a local hospital. The good news, none of their injuries are serious. And were taking a live look outside where its going to be one of those could haves to remember. And we information tonight after a second earthquake rocked southern japan. Officials say that this latest quake killed at least six people. Yesterdays earthquake left 9 people dead, hundreds injured and rescuers still pulling people from the wreckage. Cameras in the region recorded the impactand 1 30 in the morning. Rescuers pulled a man from the rubble before dawn and guests in this hotel had a rude awakening and several aftershocks followed. And the quake triggered a land isslide. Sliding homes off of their foundations. Part of this roadway fell down the hillside, leaving one car on the edge. A smaller, deadlier earthquake hit the same region on thursday. And that quake knocked down emergency workers dug through the rubble for six hours to rescue this baby. And Scientists Say the smaller quake was a foreshock and triggered the larger one. About 5 to 10 of the time, the earthquake that is trigger triggered gets bigger than the first one and we change the name and call the first one a [ indiscernible ] and that big aftershock is the main shock. This evening at around 7 30, our Paramedic Team 223 and rescue engine 227 responded to the 5000 block of sharon road to assist a person who was not responsive. And they knocked on the door and haved received no answer, so they began a forced entry to render is care and as they were forcing entry, several rounds were fired from the house through the door and striking two fire personnel. Fire paramedic john holmesnideer and volunteer kevin swayne. Sadly, fire paramedic John Holmes Snider succumbed to his injuries this evening. A 13year veteran of the Prince Georges County fire and ems department. The volunteer is in stable condition and sorry. The correction is in surgery at this time at shock trauma in baltimore. Not quite 24 hours after maryland state trooper was seriously injured on the beltway this evening at about 7 30, a relative of the involved individual, a resident of 5007 sharon road called for assistance because he believed that his relative, again, the resident of 5,007 sharon was potentially experiencing a medical emergency and they treed to get his attention, knocked on the door and the door was not answered. At that point, they decided the best course of action was to try to enter the home to check on the individual. Shortly after beginning the process, a seriesofseveral shots were fired and at firefighters. As the assistant chief barksdale detailed for you, two of the firefighters were struck as well initiated the concern on the behalf of the resident who was aphanded by responding to preps georges county Police Officers. Hes in the criminal Investigation Division right now and our detectives are interviewing him. Were currently working through a number of crime scenes and i, unfortunately, almost four hours into this, dont have a lot more details for you, but i will invite the county executive to come up and make an address.
