With the suspect now behind the wheel, the bus barreled through this intersection at minnesota and burrows. I heard, sounded like a car skidding. Then i heard a big old boom. That sound, the bus crashing and running over an innocent bystander, killing him. People was just screaming. Somebody hit. Somebody hit. And when we looked. It was just chaos. Reporter with guns drawn, police surrounded this bus. And ordered the suspect to put his hands up and surrender. I seen the gun i seen the gun before i seen the Police Officer. Thats what youre asking. I seen the gun coming from around the bus. Witnesses say he saw police and they were forced to pull him out of the drivers seat. When the uncle came, he was telling them to let him go. He seemed like he was drunk. But hes crazy. I think hes very crazy. Investigators are trying to figure out why he hijacked the bus. As the summer goes by. They need to put the police back on the road. They stopped the crime. Sad. Just a sad day. Miraculously, the bus driver was somehow able to push the emergency button. And that called police to the scene pretty early on. As for the bus driver, he is going to be okay. And as for the passengers, there werent many of them on that bus but were told they were not hurt. As the ntsb issues its final report on the smoke crisis that killed one woman and sent 91 people to the hospital. One ntsb member says metro has a fa to keep it from learning from past mistakes. I doubt seriously we have heard from this. Reporter and its really extraordinary just how many problems the ntsb discovered. One of the most disturbing, metro would send trains, loaded with passengers into tunnels to investigate reports of smoke. The new metro ceo says that practice has stopped. Reporter the ntsb released what it says is the most likely cause of the smoke crisis. A prolonged electrical short, like this one. A short caused by ineffective inspection and maintenance. Bad management and inadequate fires lacked preparedness, one ntsb member called it a comedy of errors. It is absolutely essential that these lessons be learned. The smoke we frustrating to the ntsb is after 33 years and 101 safety recommendations, the same problems keep recurring. The ntsb chair hopes this time is different. Reporter the ntsb says that the threestate safety oversight of metro is unique. And uniquely dysfunctional. It wants the federal Railroad Administration to take over. But the department of transportation has designated the federal Transit Administration to babysit safety at metro for now. The ntsb says safety is not a job for babysitters. In fact, just before the murder, he texted his mother and said, i made a mess, theyre knocking on at the door, what should i do . Run . And thats when had he what he did. His mother said she didnt know exactly what happened until the detectives called her and said her son was charged with murder. We are expecting the jury will get it tomorrow.
