Election day. Trump loyalists say the biggest draw is the oath of office. Thats what were waiting for. I mean tomorrow is a big day. Reporter up until now a lot of changes. One singer dropped out yesterday. Andy grammar sited a scheduling conflict. Pete, thank you. No matter how carefully your trip to the swearing in is planned, the parade, the protests chances are youll run into a hassle or two. Youll have some time. Itll take a while the get anywhere you want to go. Weve asked for some pointers. Joining us live from pennsylvania avenue, we cant quite see you from where were sitting but we know youre there around the parade route. I was going to say you guys are just down the street and a little bit up above me. Check out pennsylvania avenue. Isnt this incredible . Traffic, the pedestrians have taken over. Security amazing downtown. Traffic abysmal so even if you take metro tomorrow, you are likely to be walking a ways. Reporter if youre headed to the parade you may want to go to metro center that way you should be able to walk straight down 11th street and do a nice spot in the middle of the parade route where the new president is most likely to get out of the beast, his president ial limo, you might get a real good look at him. But maybe closed off you might have to walk down to 7th street which is another pedestrian entrance. Whatever you do, do not walk into the third street tunnel. Remember thousands of people got stuck and missed Barack Obamas first inauguration in there. They called it the purple tunnel in, a station on the south side of town may be a better bet. Then it is right down 7th street Pedestrian Access point right here and right on to the National Mall. You still cant bring in big umbrellas like that. But theyre letting you bring in little collapsible umbrellas. And youre going to encounter fences like this everywhere you turn. Without a ticket 4th street here is as close as youre going to get. Its still a pretty good view. The gates open at 6 00 a. M. And you better get here early. 7 to 900,000 people still likely to fill up a good chunk of the mall. You dont want to end up way back there at the back now live we are on 12th street at pennsylvania avenue. You can see the access point right here. So thats a good landmark if youre coming down here to the parade route. But if you want to head down there to the swearing in, the National Mall eight years ago i was up at 3 00 a. M. Just barely made it across here before they closed it down. So you are likely potentially if youre trying to get down to the mall to have to walk a long way down that way or a long way down that way. Live on the parade route, wusa9. Thats right youve got to dress well. Wear comfortable shoes and of course be patient. A lot of people are going to be trying to get around lets talk more about the umbrella policy. Initially we didnt think youd be able to bring them. Theyve made a revision to that policy. Theyre saying you can have your umbrellas, there are certain criteria though that the umbrella has to meet. First it has to be compact design, it cant be longer than 18 inches when collapsed and it cant have a pointed tip. Umbrellas still not allowed for the Ticket Holders on the u. S. Capitol grounds. This only applies to the parade route and the National Mall. So they may be sitting in some rain for the festivities tomorrow. Tom, youre saying its not going to be a wash out . Its not going to be heavy rain. Its going to be nuisance rain. Its going to be rain instead of snow. So those are some of the silver linings. Were talking about the middle of january here. 10 00 well still be dry and 45. Then by swearing in, were looking at light rain or showers, temperatures in the upper 40s. And by 2 0049 also some light rain and showers. Again nothing crazy heavy but certainly a nuisance. This is 10 00 a. M. Notice the certainly along i81. Look what happens by lunchtime the swearing in its envel lopped the entire metro area with temperatures in the 40s. Kind of like a march day rather than a january day. If youre outside for any length of time in light rain in the 40s youre going to get cold. Heavier rain down to the south, then finally by about 4 00en everything is east of town. Well come back and talk about the forecast and the womens march on saturday. And well talk about another yellow weather alert on sunday. This morning thousands of guardsmen from around the country took the oath of duty at fed ex field ahead of the inauguration. These troops say you cant understand how big the event is until youre there. The National Guard has been supporting the inauguration since the first one. 1879 thats when they helped to escort George Washington from mount vernon all the way up to swearing in ceremony. 27,000 officers, a massive undertaking. What can you expect when it comes to your safety . Well, were on capitol hill to break it all down. Reporter youve got questions and weve got the answers. Lets get right to it. The first question is about security checkpoints. How do you get through those security checkpoints even though theyll be blocked by protesters. This is what we know, 12 groups of protesters 100 deep will be blocking security checkpoints in the area. Many of them will be forming human chains and police say theyre not going to necessarily physically remove the protesters, so how do you get in if theyre blocking the security checkpoint . Homeland Security Director says hell direct you to another security checkpoint, or open a new one if he has to. That brings us to number two, whos really in charge now this is a secret Service Mission essentially. There are a whole lot of people who will be here protecting us during the inauguration. 28,000 security personnel from 47 different agencies all working together as one except when you come to the Capitol Grounds thats pretty much u. S. Capitol police territory. And of course the mall is u. S. Park police territory. The one thing everyone has in common no one will arrest you if you are not breaking the law. This afternoon more than 3,000 officers from about 200 departments over the country were sworn in as u. S. Deputy marshals. Theyre all here to help us out with the inauguration. They were briefed on d. C. Police policy. That brings us to our third and final question that we can answer for you. Confrontations, what do you do if you come face to face with an aggressive activist . Anticipate that there will be folks on the parade route with different views than in washington, d. C. We agree to disagree. At the capitol, wusa9. And while the Interpol Police chief Interpol Police chief would not share interim police chief would not share policies. Just behave. A lot of bright pink knit hats will be seen at the womens march on washington. The hats creators point to the now emphasis access Hollywood Tape where donald trump bragged about grabbing women. Its reached worldwide scope with knitters contributing from japan, and australia. We spoke to two best friends who are here for both having many reasons not to. Jennifer and michelle theyre two moms and two hillary supporters. They bought their Airline Tickets ahead of Election Night they thought theyd be attending the inauguration of Hillary Clinton. But instead theyre here to see donald trump. Michelle and her best friend jennifer wore their support of Hillary Clinton on their shirts, their mailboxes, their refrigerators, they went to rallies and were so moved they cried. My dad came from iran, in 1967 he got his citizenship and a very proud american muslim. It kills me when people talk about the registry and build a wall, keep them out. Thats my husbands family down there. Both are married to husbands between them theyre raising ten children. And jennifer has another on the way. And then she lost. Ive just received a call from secretary clinton. I called jennifer the next day and said cancel my tickets. But jennifer held out hope. It wasnt until mid december i want to say that she finally said okay lets do it. Just to have the feeling to tell our children when theyre older that we did go to the inauguration for a man that we didnt support but we support our country. He is our president now. So you kind of have to go with the flow. You dont have to agree with everything he says. You dont have to agree with everything he does. But ultimately he is the president and you have to hope that he has the majority of us in our best interests. So jennifer and michelle will go to the inauguration for their children. Our kids are minorities. And the womens march on washington to stand up for reproductive rights an issue so important to them both. What am i going to tell my daughter . I walked on washington for you. When other people are yelling out trump theyre just going to yell out america. They say they had so many reasons not to support donald trump but they had ten really good reasons to support them. Their children. Live here on the National Mall where the music is playing and its getting exciting out here. Thank you deborah. We can actually see that from our location. Lee green performing in front of the Lincoln Memorial. We hear the cheering as well. Organizers of the womens march on saturday say that rally is just the beginning. Why they believe the real work comes in the days, months, and years after. Thats right after the break. And a little later donald trump visits the hotel that bears his name. How some people are putting politics aside in the name of commerce. We want t inauguration events through your eyes. Post your photos and videos on our Facebook Page, and any time you tweet just at wusa9 to your tweet. We could put some of your snapshots on the air. Has given us. Choose to take your problems to god in prayer. So for many people the womens march on saturday is very personal. The motivation for the event was fueled in part by an infant who entered the world the same day donald trump won the election. Ellen bryan brings us the story. Reporter in november as donald trump won the president ial election bob bland went into labor. I actually gaveth working on the march. Was in active labor having a meeting. Chloe her now eightweek old daughter is one of the reasons she said she had to do something. So a movement was born. I look into their eyes and i do not want them to see injustice be normalized in this country in a way that distorts their perception of what is right. The other women behind the grass roots effort agree. As women were not going to allow you to take back any of the progress weve made and were going to fight for more. For them saturday is just a starting block. We know that the real work is going to happen the day after the march. Thats an inspirational day but the real work is the day after. The real work will be continued by future generations by chloe. We must pass on that nonresistance to our daughters and as of now 200,000 people are expected to march on saturday. But it is likely that more than that number will attend. An update now on the health of former president george h. W. Bush and his wife barbara bush. The 41st president is in stable condition in the icu at houston methodist hospital. The 92yearold is being treated for pneumonia. Doctors are also looking after barbara bush in that same hospital. Shes reported to be feeling 1,000 better after being treated for bronchitis. We hope theyre feeling much better soon. And hopefully a lot of you might have reason to feel better about the forecast. Because we might see less rain and it might move out sooner than expected. Thats great. Why dont you tell us how it is . The forecast is the same. The best news is we can have little umbrellas tomorrow. Same deal, 11 00 a. M. To 3 00 p. M. Yesterday. Today to 4 00 p. M. 46 at 11 00, 48 at 1 00. 49 at 30. Perhaps a left over shower at 5 00 and temps are still in the upper 40s. Now a little milder for saturday. Maybe a little sun around 1 00. Well say 52 at 11 00. 55 at 1 00. 55 at 3 00 and 51 at 5 00. Mostly showers move in saturday night. So a little better day. Threedegree guarantee. Were sweating this one. Last night before 11 i lowered it from 57 to 56. Live look outside its down to 49. Dew points in the upper 30s which is kind of high. This is january you expect them in the Single Digits or the teens. Its more like march than january quite frankly. So mostly cloudy tonight but we stay dry. Temperatures tomorrow 6 00 a. M. To 9 00 a. M. When you wake up. 34 to 42. Yellow weather alert for rain and showers. And then nothing heavy, best chance 11 00 a. M. To 4 00 p. M. We extended it maybe an extra hour on the backside. 10 00 tonight a few breaks in the clouds. But walking the dog after dinner still pretty comfortable. 44 at 10 00 is higher than our average High Temperature at this time of year which is 42. So were still another day another night from winter. Which is fine as long as we dont have to pay for it in march or april. Thats my only concern. 6 00 a. M. Tomorrow clouds but were dry. Upper 30s to low 40s. And by 10 00 we see the rain showers just west lees burg. Then by lunchtime were back and showers for the swearing in. More activity by 2 00. Even a little heavier activity. Notice the flecks of yellow in Southern Maryland and down i85. Around town just generally light rain. Then by 4 00 everything is ea and temperatures still in the 40s. By 8 00 on frida to go to one of the parties bad hair night but itll be dry. By saturday morning temperatures in the 40s but notice no rain on saturday morning. Okay so on the day planner, low 40s to start. Rain by 11 00. 46 more rain at 1 00. And 48 degrees. Saturday pretty nice despite the clouds pleasant, 59. Then boom yellow weather alert on sunday. More rain only 50. Next seven days, more rain on monday in the 40s. Then we clear out tuesday, wednesday back to 55 on wednesday. And we settle into the upper 40s on thursday. Maybe signs of winter by next friday. A frantic search is underway for survivors after an avalanche that buried a hotel in central italy.
