Maybe just skip a week. I dont know. 5 00 tonight, these are actual wind gusts gusting to 38 Miles Per Hour in manassas. 32 mileperhour wind gust downtown. Winds gusting almost to 40 miles an hour across most of the metro area and then by morning looking at winds 43 Miles Per Hour in gaithersburg and frederick. Our own meteorologist melissa nord was out. She has more damaged trees down there as well. Reporter indeed. What youre seeing behind me, this is the root system that must be about 10 feet tall in diameter. This is of a large pine tree that came crashing down during todays storms. It not only brought down the tree, it tore out the asphalt. As the storms were coming through, it wasnt just this tree that came down. There were about 8 to 10 others in this particular homeowners yard. This particular tree came over on to a mustang. You can see its kind of damaged it there. Laid across the road on river road, which is a major artery going through to get into town. It blocked off traffic for quite some time. The storms were very intense as they were coming through. Weve been talking about this for a couple of days. Want to show you some dash cam video from Storm Tracker 9 as we were driving through the storms earlier. A lot of blinding wind and rain coming down. There were isol line wind gusts as the storms were coming through that were able to bring down the stronger winds from just about a kilometer above the atmosphere. There could be wind gusts that were 60 to 70 Miles Per Hour to bring down trees like this. Behind us we have a couple more. All brought up by the root system or snapped right at the base. Strong winds. It could have been a lot worse. This particular homeowner was just glad it did not fall on his house. Well send things back into you in the studio. This is a community, kind of an enclave on the north side of montgomery village. The power is out here because of that mawup topper showed y with all the downed trees. Same kind of things happening here. The video that one of the neighbors shared with me. Ill show you right now that gives you an idea of the sheer danger and power when these lines come down. This downed wire burned for nearly an hour before power crews could get turned off. The offmath included a deep crater. The ground was still smoking. All this caused by a tree that fell on the utility lines here. Leaving these homes in the dark. Some working on the cleanup. Theres a wait for about an hour. It was out for a long time. If you see the crater down there. [ unintelligible ] reporter the storm that caused this, brief but violent. In some places just a minute or two of wind and rain. Enough to cause widespread dunned trees, closed roads and tangle some dangerous power lines on the ground. Those last shots i just showed you were from river road. Thats where a tree and power lines came down and actually came down right on a box truck. That truck got tangled up in the wires. The driver had to be ue damaged. He was able to go on his way. River road out in that direction was closed down for quite a while this afternoon and the folks here still in the dark. You can see the power crews here. Theyre going to work on getting these power lines back up. What a cautionary tale to look at the video, the cell phone video that neighbor provided me of the wire on the ground. Now to a developing story. Gang activity is suspected in what police discovered in a Fairfax County park today. Acting on a tip about human remains, police began searching homes. Northern Virginia Bureau chief peggy fox is there to bring us the story. Reporter let me set the scene for you. Were here in a culdesac by the name of crater lane. An officer over there down that roadway at that Swimming Pool is the command post. Earlier in the day police told us they were here searching for human remains. Acting on information they received. It looks like they found what they we woods. In the woods you can see a white cover put up by police to protect something they found. Red crime scene tape surrounds it. One resident is afraid. Detectives received information that there are possible human remains. Reporter the fbi is guarding what they found. A large Police Command post is set up at the adjacent Swimming Pool parking lot. I know that there has been Gang Activity in the park before. And that that im guessing thats what it is. The discovery could be related to recent gang murders in fairfax and Prince William county. We believe preliminarily there may be gang involvement due to how the information came in.
