Officials say the youngster named ethan is safe and sound with his mother at an alabama hospital. The suspect, 65yearold jimmy lee dykes is dead. Officials said they made the decision to take the suspect when negotiations with dykes deteriorated. Neighbors say dykes was an isolated loner who was often seen with a gun. President obama is pushing congress to act on his gun control proposals. During a stop in minnesota, the president said Congress Seems to be coming to a consensus on new background checks for gun buyers and limiting high capacity gun clips. But he says he also wants them to pass an assault weap upons ban. Weapons ban. This afternoon a Bipartisan Group of house members will introduce their own gun control legislation that would make firearms trafficking a federal offense but it does not address assault weapons. Three high school buys charged with child boys charged with child pornography are back in school at West Springfield high school. Were down about 8,000 jobs from the peak which was in mid 2010. Average salaries in the Washington Area went down first time. Reporter long considered one of the best economies in the country, the Washington Area is still [indiscernible] but its at risk of losing its edge. The transition could change the regions spending habits. We wont be able to support so many white table restaurants or wont be able to support as high end a Housing Market if this continues for many years. Were going through a major change in the economy. Reporter even if congress stops the budget cuts, the local economy could be in for a rougher ride this year since were taking home less money. You can blame the hike in the payroll tax which takes 2 more out of workers paychecks. Took more than 4 billion of disposable income out of the local economy. Had we been projected to grow 3 , we might only grow 2 because of that one little change. Thats a big number. We work hard to generate 4 billion here. We certainly do on the upside dr. Fuller thinks as the local federal job market slows, the private sector will ramp up. But you have to keep in mind, these private sector jobs pay less than the federal salaries that were losing. So we are seeing sort of a salary drain, not a brain drain per say but a salary drain as the overall nature of our economy here is changing. I wonder if its going to take a decade for housing prices adjust because weve obviously seen them here compared to the rest of the nation. Were on the upswing in terms of local housing prices. Were matching four, even seven year highs in the local Housing Market. The further out areas, its going to take them a very long time to come back, the leesburgs of the world. That means its slow not only through woodbridge but youre below the speed limit right up the line into springfield. 395 still seems to be okay. Lets take a live look outsideshow you what it looks like here on the northbound side of 95. Like i said its just below the speed limit through this section heading on to 395. Lets go back to the maps. Want to let you know about an accident on the southbound side of the bw parkway. It is right at the entrance for eastbound 195. Lets take a live look from our sky 9 and those guys are telling us that that accident with one lane getting by is causing a twomile backup on the southbound side of the bw parkway. So be aware of that. Maybe choose 95 instead. If youre heading up to baltimore to do all the celebration, it is not affecting the northbound side. Its just southbound at the 195 entrance as you head on to the bw parkway. Be aware of that. Also want to let you know that metros silver line is scheduled to open at the end of 2013 and theyve already begun testing a portion of the third rail. The plan is to test through march using a clearance car. After last weeks green line third rail debacle in southeast dur the rush hour, they do not want during the rush hour, they do not want a repeat of that. The third rail provides electricity to the rail and it caught fire and eventually it affected 2,000 passengers last week. Theyre going to make sure that nothing like that happens on the silver line. Is it a test car . Yes, its totally a test car. It does not mean that theyre opening the rails at all but theyll just use that as a test through that section through march.
