The number of hospitals in Northern Virginia are now taking extra steps to try and stop the spread of the flu. Being called an epidemic. Nikki burdine joins us outside the Inova Fairfax hospital with more. Reporter good morning. Thats right. There are now a total of seven hospitals in Northern Virginia that are putting restrictions on the age of people who are visiting patients in their hospitals. Of course, inova Health Systems, fairfax being one of them, put in restrictions for patients urldz the age of 16 under the age of 16. Now there are two more hospitals added to the list. Those are the novant Hospital Systems in haymarket and manassas. However, that age limit is for under the age of 18. If you are under the age of 18, you cannot visit patients in those hospitals. However, there are of course exceptions to that rule. If you have a Family Member you are visiting who is dying, nurses are able to work with you and make sure all patients are kept safely from anything that people visiting might bring in. They say this is of course as a precaution to keep patients from getting sicker who are already in the hospital. Because as we know, people who have preexisting conditions are even more susceptible to the flu. And theyre trying to keep children from getting the flu. Its even more widespread, especially for this time of year. Hospitals in Northern Virginia have seen a big spike of people with the flu coming into the emergency room. We spoke with one man at Prince William hospital whose wife has been hospitalized with the flu. This is what he had to say. My grandkids cant even go see my wife right now because of this. Theyre worried about for them obviously getting sick, too. I mean, i dont its kind of upsetting. My wife really would like to see the grandkids. Reporter a little bit of disappoint. Most people we spoke to said the same thing. They wish their Family Members could visit. The patients wish they could have their young relatives visit but of course they understand it is for the Overall Health of everyone in the hospital as well as for those visitors. For now Health Officials say they will continue to monitor these flu outbreaks and these flu cases and then make changes based on that. If the numbers go up or if they come down hopefully. For now age restrictions at Inova Fairfax ushed the age of 16 and under the age of 16 and Novant Health systems under the age of 1. Back to you in the studio of 18. Back you to in the studio. D.
