This morning congress is under pressure to set some new rules for the mass collection of americas phone records. The federal court ruled that controversial nsa program is illegal. Reporter the future of the National Security agencys controversial spy program now hangs in the balance. On thursday a federal Appeals Court ruled the practice illegal. Hours later Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell took to the floor to defend it calling it vital to National Security. Not only have these tools kept us safe, there has not been a single incident, not one of intentional abuse of them. Reporter the scope of the program was not known until Edward Snowden leaked classified documents to the media two years ago. The former nsa contractor revealed that since 9 11, the agency secretly collected and stored millions of private u. S. Phone records under section 215 of the patriot act but that the court ruled was never authorized bythe statute. You can do both security and protecting constitutional rights. Now one person has died from wednesday nights storms. A woman in oklahoma died when her underground shelter flooded. The tornadoes destroyed more than 1500 homes in the town of bridge creek. The man implicated in the disappearance of 43 College Students is in custody according to mexican authorities. Authorities say he had been hiding with relatives. The former Police Official allegedly ordered other officers to hand over 13 students to a drug gang last year. The gang is believed to have killed those students and then burned their bodies. The funeral for an educator who spent more than 30 years leading Public School systems in our area takes place tomorrow. Dr. Paul vance died of complications from a stroke at the age of 83.
