Dorian weighs in at 8 pounds 4 ounces and shes 20 and a half inches long. She joins her two big sisters and we wish them the very best. It might be dreadfully hot but wearing long pants and long sleeves could be a life saver in summertime. Here is to explain here to explain is a nurse track televisioner from practitioner from minute clinic. I still wear long pants when going into wooded areas because im worried about tick bites. What do we look for . Do you feel it . The long pants are a good way to start. Make sure theyre tucked into your socks. They are on the ground and can come up through the pant leg and infect the rest of your body. Ticks are a very huge problem, especially if youre out in wooded areas. If you do get a tick bite and the tick has been on your skin for less than 36 hours, you dont have to worry. If you can take the tick off with a pair of tweezers, thats great. If not, seek a Health Care Professional or come to a local minute clinic. Well take the tick off for you. If youve had a tick on for more than 36 hours, you definitely need to seek care. You may not feel it which is why you should do a tick check when you come out of the woods. Check your scalp, your gentles and in between the buttocks. Those are places ticks love to hide. Again, if you can take it out, thats fine. Otherwise seek medical attention. A rash is definitely a sign you should seek help. Lots of poison ivy in my backyard. Im so worried when i pull weeds i may pull that. How do we prevent the irritants there . Coverup is the best prevention. You want to make sure you have long sleeves, gloves, long pants on. If you do get exposed to the poison ivy, wasnt to wash the area, take a shower, take off the clothes that youre wearing because they probably have the sap on the clothing itself. Then if you do have a rash, you want to use things like hydrocortisone cream or maybe even aveeno bath that really helps with the itch. If you have a rash on the facial area [ inaudible ] what is swimmers ear and how do we prevent it or treat it . Its common in children and actually pretty common in adults as well. Its usually when you get water thats stuck in the area and a bacteria like a warm, moist environment you can get a bacterial infection in the year. So preventing again is covering up with a cap or earplugs. The other thing that you can do when you get out of the shower or the pool, you want to make sure you dry the ears out thoroughly with a towel. If you do have ire station in the ear, redness or you irritation in the ear, redness, you want to seek medical attention. You can come to any of the clinics seven day as week. Thank you. During the hot summer days, covering up, good advice. Weve been feeling some sun. When we get it, we get some powerful storms and thats where howard comes in with what is now just a yellow alert day. Still yellow alert. Were contemplating going to a yellow alert because we have a few more parameters today which means we may get some stronger storms than weve had around here and we have had strong storms around here sunday and monday. While we need the sun to heat things up, you also need strong upper level winds. We have strong upper level winds. When they all come together is when you get the Severe Weather. Upper 80s for highs. 86 by 3 00. 81 by 5 00 as were expecting showers and storms by then and by this evening well drop back into the 70s. That means the commute home for many, yeah, youll be dodging some rain. Dodging some rain now, especially west of us when you get west into the Shenandoah Valley. Not much going on in the immediate metro. Weve had an isolated sprinkle toward frederick and caroll counties. Were seeing more activity out to the west. I just want to zoom in here. When you get west of route 15, west of the blue ridge, charles town some light showers there. Down along and west of i81. The actual cold front, this is starting to produce some bigger cells here in eastern pennsylvania western pennsylvania, east of pittsburgh, coming through morgantown right now. Thats the cold front. And all this stuff ahead of it, if we get the cloudiness like this, that will tend to limit these temperatures and the ability to get really strong storms but the upper level winds, theyre just going to be moving toward us for the afternoon. Expect this area to really expand. Right now between front royal and sperryville, a moderate shower here but theres nothing strong or severe anywhere near at the moment. The picture, though, shows weve got a lot of dry air just off to the west of the appalachians now with dew points down to 51 columbus. This dry air is moving in toward us. Our dew points are still in the low 70s so it feels muggy, feels tropical. Like the gulf coast, south florida, temperatures also big range from 71 in cleveland to 90 in richmond and norfolk right now. Locally weve got temps which are mostly in the s on. Thats 93 80s. Thats 93 yesterday before the storms came in in the amp. Today were up 207 in college park. 87 fairfax and waldorf this afternoon and joint base andrews at 85. Reagan national is also 85. So weve got an area of low pressure spinning in the upper levels bringing in much colder temps. Only going to be in the upper 60s in chicago today. Theres that front. We saw the dew point difference and the storms. Theres the front. The front is coming toward a pretty rich atmosphere so we have that risk of Severe Weather all in yellow. Main threats will be damaging wind gusts. Minor threat will be large hail. The futurecast shows the storms by 2 00, especially north and west of town coming through 3 00, 4 00, 5 00. By this evening weve got some strong storms developing, potentially south and east of town and its going to be around for several hours this evening, especially d. C. South and east. Hopefully by 6 00 or so, north and west the threat is over. 89 today with the yellow alert. Might have to go to red. 69 tonight. Tomorrow early clouds east of i 95 but really turns out to be a Beautiful Day with a high of 83. Delightful on thursday with a high around 85. By friday could see a shower or storm late 84 and a couple of storms over the weekend. Were broadcasting both nats games saturday and sunday. St welcome back to wusa9 at noon. Can a crumbling cupcake be saved . Theres word the bake shop could be making a comeback so what will it take to succeed . Here is the ceo of the list nikki. Good to have you back. Its nice to be back. It was a surprise it seemed to everyone that the 48 crumb stores were closing because theyre all across the country. Were you surprised . I was not surprised. I was surprised they lasted as long as they d. Crumbs was not known in the cupcake world as the best cupcake place. Their cupcakes were enormous. They were very big, over 600 calories a piece and they came in really ridiculous flavors. The cupcake trend when it started, these are supposed to be little gems, little indulgences. Guilt free. Not guilt free but the cupcake is supposed to be this little indulgence. If you talk about local cupcakeries like of course georgetown cupcake, baked and wired, sprinkles, georgetown cupcakes i believe are 300 calories or less. Sprinkles are depending on the kind of cupcake, 500 or less. I just think that crumbs just went bigger is better. They went on this big sugar rush. And they spread out across the country. Totally extended themselves. As you know, somebody is going to buy them. The cnbc guy is making a bid for them. But he a he but hes going to have to diversify. Its just not enough. I personally dont think the trend is the end of cupcakes anyhow. I think people like to blow smoke. They like to make a big deal over nothing. People love cupcakes and theres nothing wrong with that. Especially if they have great icing. Great icing and great cake and good use of quality products. I think thats what you were missing from crumbs. At least thats my take on it. Before we end the segment, i want to talk to you about fire lake grill. Something you dont see in upper northwest in the commercial area. All of their stuff was on the sidewalk on wisconsin avenue. What happened to them . I dont really know what happened with them. Im not familiar with their story. Im sure somebody in legal could tell you something but quite frankly d. C. Is having an explosion of restaurants. If your restaurant cant make it, it just means youre not doing good product. Were finished with our product. Well see you again tomorrow starting at 4 25.
