Reporter for days [ no audio ] the School Superintendent of Montgomery County, joshua starr, is leaving, pushed out in some ways after losing the confidence of about half of the school board. The news was announced at a Board Meeting just a few minutes ago. There is a News Conference that is going on right to see how they play this, but four members of the board have been saying for quite a little while that starr had failed them. There had been questions about the way hes handled a couple of allegations of employees sexually assaulting children. There have been issues about his on againoff again support for starting school later and allowing children to sleep in. And Board Members have complained in particular that he has no clear vision on how to close the achievement gap between white and African American children. We had a chance to hear a little bit of that News Conference just a few moments ago. Lets take a listen to patricia oneil, the school board president. After much discussion, the board and dr. Starr agreed it would be in the best interest as a district to appoint a new leader to Carry Forward the boards vision. Reporter so who will lead this Top School System in one of the highest performing School Systems, state School Systems in the entire country . Well, it is larry bowers, larry a. Bowers. Hes been interim superintendent in the past. He will be interrip superintendent now. Hes a 37year employee of the school board. Hes been chief operating officer for the last 16 years. We dont know much about his philosophy at this point. We dont know much about the priorities that the school board will have going forward. We know that theyre going to be engaged in a nationwide search for a new superintendent. We know theyre providing somewhat they call transition assistance to joshua starr. Well get some more answers. City paper says it received the information through a freedom of information act request. Two people are charged with trespassing following a protest this morning in calvert county, maryland. Two women climbed on to a crane at the cove point liquefied natural gas plant in lusby. They say the facility thats currently under construction poses a safety risk and health risk to area residents. The women were removed from the crane and charged with trespassing and failure to obey police commands. Frigid cold temperatures are complicating massive snow removal efforts in boston.
