Traversing through time with these historic stepwells in India


Pushkarinis are the ceremonial tanks built in the stepwell style. Hampi’s
pushkarninis are the stepped tanks with an astonishing cascade of pyramid-shaped stairways. These stepwells are absolutely popular among Hampi tourists.
How to reach? Hosapete (Hospet) railway station is the nearest station to Hampi. One can easily get a taxi or public bus from outside the station for Hampi.

Rani-ki-Vav, Patan, Gujarat
Rani-ki-Vav is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the few ancient surviving architectures from the famous Chaulukya kingdom that ruled Gujarat and Rajasthan in the 11th century. This incredible stepwell was constructed by Chaulukya King Bhimdev I’s wife Udayamati. Every inch of this beautiful stepwell is intricately carved and features Lord Vishnu and other India deities.
