The community of Baltinglass was dismayed to find its beautiful Christmas tree was targeted by vandals on Saturday night - only hours after the lights were officially switched on. The incident occurred several hours after the town's festive lights were turned on during a socially distanced event attended by a small group of volunteers from Baltinglass Tidy Towns and the Christmas Lights Committee. It's understood that an individual climbed over barriers surrounding the 29ft tree later on Saturday night before scaling the tree, causing damage to its base. A video of the incident was shared on social media. While some branches were broken, luckily the lights on the tree were not damaged.
