Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has sent a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis urging to change her country's name in Lithuanian from Baltarùsija to Belarusià, the Telegram channel of the opposition leader reported. The politician noted that the current name is perceived as a copy of the Russian word for Belarus, which leads to an erroneous association with the Russian Federation. In her opinion, changing the name would become a sign of respect for the republic's independence and Lithuania's support for Belarusians' linguistic and cultural identity.
