TUCSON, AZ — Elephants rolling around in the snow isn't a sight you see every day.
But that's exactly what happened this week when Tucson was hit with some rare winter weather. Reid Park Zoo shared photos and videos of its elephant herd rolling, playing and frolicking in the ice and snow.
Penzi and Nandi, the zoo's two sisters, took the opportunity to slip and slide in the mud. Penzi even ate some snowflakes from the ground.

"A weather event can always be exciting for the elephants , but a first snow is always special for a baby elephant," Dr. Sue Tygielski, director of Zoological Operations, said in a zoo blog post. "Penzi took the snowflakes as a cue to play in the stream and slip and slide in the mud. Even her older sister, Nandi, could not resist a roll in the mud on a snowy day!"
