Turkish rail project sets and breaks its own tunnelling world record

Contractor Kolin Construction working on the Eşme-Salihli Railway Tunnel in Turkey set new world records for advances in one day, a week and a month in May (for a 13m-14m diameter machine in mixed ground) and then broke those records again a month later.
The project is using a second-hand Robbins Crossover XRE tunnel boring machine (TBM), which was upgraded after being stored to seven years, to drive the 13.77m internal diameter, 3.05km long tunnel on the Ankara-İzmir High Speed Railway Project for the Turkish State Railways. The 508km line will eventually connect Polatlı in Ankara province to Izmir.
