Created: April 05, 2021 07:53 AM (ABC 6 NEWS) - Two months ago, a fire broke out at the Chestnut Apartments in Mantorville. Now, nearly all of the residents are in new homes thanks to community help.
Last week, former residents of the Chestnut Apartments were able to go inside for the first time, find what belongings were left and see the damage to their homes. Coty Allen called the Chestnut Apartments "home" for the past three and half years. On the morning of February 4, 2021, it was snowing and the sun was just rising when the unthinkable happened at the Chestnut Apartments.
"I woke up in kind of that delusion of what is going on. smelled smoke, and I'm like okay something is not right," said former resident, Coty Allen.
