Last January, 23-year-old Latravion Heard-McMillion turned himself in to police when his stepson, 6-year-old Jaylen Worthington, died December 23 due to complications from trauma.
Worthington was admitted to Bronson Hospital on December 14 with life-threatening injuries, later passing away. Police say the following investigation revealed that his injuries were a result of child abuse.
On Friday, Judge Tiffany Ankley ruled that there wasn’t enough evidence to show Heard-McMillion had the intent murder Worthington, according to MLive.
As a result, charges of open murder and first degree child abuse were dropped. Heard-McMillon will now face lesser charges. Reports indicate that a new arrest warrant was issued for charges of third degree child abuse and manslaughter.
