Midwest Communications/Shutterstock PEORIA, Ill. – Jefferson Street between Kumpf and Oak, and the intersection of Adams and State Streets were temporarily closed to traffic Monday morning due to a large gas leak. Fire Battalion Chief Clint Kuhlman said emergency crews were called to The Rescue Mission at 601 SW Adams just after 8:30 a.m. 30 people were evacuated from the building. Ameren Illinois was on-scene and said the gas leak was coming from an underground pipeline in the street. Crews also checked nearby Born Paints and found high levels of natural gas in the basement.
