Utica man faces felony weapons charges following traffic stop


A passenger in a vehicle stopped by Utica police faces felony weapon charges, city police said.
Rasheem Street, 35, of Utica, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of marijuana, officials said.
Rasheem was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped around 3 a.m. Wednesday while police were working a proactive GIVE detail in Hot Spot locations to address recent gun violence around the city, officials said. GIVE investigators, partnered with overtime patrol officers, conducted the vehicle stop at Noyes and Schuyler Streets in West Utica.
While speaking to the occupants of the vehicle, cause was developed to conduct a search of them as well as the interior of the vehicle, police said.
